Good game!
How do i get more soldiers in lifeline? I've had the reinforcement order active for 3 days now and they cant find anyone, I lost one guy to a feral earlier so now sieges feel really understaffed. Also gently caress that you cant upgrade your camp with better defenses really.

Edit: I think we could use a new thread too, OP hasnt updated/posted in a while right?

It's random, but keeping the reinforcement order active should eventually cause you to run across more soldiers to recruit. I've got 13 kicking around the base right now - only one left of the original five you start out with, though. As sieges get worse you get more ferals coming in, and I've lost one or two people on each of the last three.

It's funny, I seem to have exhausted the pool of surviving regular army units in the area, so all the troops I've recruited recently have been reservists.

Probably. I was assuming that NPCs would pick up whatever they fancy though, like that alcoholic college drop-out woman in campaign/Breakdown who insists on grabbing the 50 cal revolver no matter how many LMGs I hand to her.

First playthough I had too many soldiers, next play through I built an extra barracks and then got only 5 before extracting. Radio lady dies on the air which is good :argh:

I built the workshop, i constructed the ammo, i scavenged the ammo, it's my gun keeping the zombies out of the base, but everyone got overrun and died cause i wasn't allowed to take out ammunition for my empty gun cause "uuuh, you don't have enough friends on Facebook"

It's especially funny when you're the commanding officer. 'Uh, sir, the rest of the unit got together and we decided not to allow you to take any more bullets today. Sorry, sir.'

One way to get around it is to keep spare ammo or extra guns in your cars. I have a sedan parked at the base that is used solely as something to stash a pair of M60s in, for rainy days.

How do people ever have trouble with influence? I'm always rolling around with it in the the hundreds if not thousands. Like the only time I've ever ran out of influence was in breakdown when I decided to take out all the lovely melee weapons in the stash that had accumulated and destroy them to make room for actually useful poo poo.

Likewise. I'm on Lifeline, haven't even moved my base (if it's possible) and I have near 2k influence.

Now finding Materials is a different matter...

This is true. It's ridiculously scarce, so I'm basically constantly calling it in on the helipad. Occasionally ammo since that seems semi-scarce as well.

Edit: I may just start over though. I've had a couple npc's die including one the one that does the freak hunting sidequest. (Dumb poo poo got killed by charging a juggernaut) Plus, the whole 'now I know what I'm doing' nonsense.

I just figured out while loving around in Breakdown the other day that storage capacity is actually a total volume. You don't have a set capacity just for guns and another for melee weapons. I wound up ditching the ridiculous amount of small backpacks I had accumulated to make room for my fancy new guns and explosives.

When you re-establish contact with HQ you can use the heli-pad to request Material drops, among other things.

What specializations do you guys generally pick? Also, do they affect the AI in any real way or mostly the player? (especially stuff like Rage. I understand focus aim not doing much for NPCs)

Also, do certain weapon types work better for certain characters or is it just a speed vs power thing?

I'm pretty much calling in supply drops as fast as they become available, and I use sniper support and artillery strikes a lot. As a result, I don't lose many soldiers, but I'm constantly short on influence.

IIRC, blunt weapons are all-around good for any character. Characters with Finesse as a skill are better served by bladed weapons. Keep your heavy weapons only for characters with Powerhouse and they will become loving tanks.

There's relatively little to loot on the Lifeline map (the map is basically a really thin donut with a center that looks like it holds a lot of cool stuff, but oops, arbitrary barrier, no you can't come in here), a high emphasis on guns, gun play and support powers. Combined with a game that's dragging on due to critical missions spawning at a glacial pace + base that requires a lot of upkeep resources = frustration.

This is a terrible question but does anyone know what happened to that mod that made every home base start with no faclities? I cant find the darn thing and I hate how the Savinni and Kirkman houses could be more useful.

Whichever it is, its almost certainly obsolete :( Mods arent patch friendly IIRC.

Been binging a bit today in my free time today (less than I'd like).

About 3 or 4 hours in...and I dunno if I've had the same problems as others. I find missions spawn CONSTANTLY, and require fast responses or they fade with the initiator dead.

Not too many bad bugs, although one hard crash out of nowhere was a bit annoying. I also drove over the smallest of objects in the road and started barrel rolling like mad. Pretty much impossible to expect.

The sieges are pretty awesome. Blood gets pumping as I take a post at the highest point in the base and start focusing with an assault rifle.

I don't know when to find the time to restock supplies. Construction and ammo materials are almost always out or nearly out.

If you don't have time to scavenge, you can either put your idle soldiers on foraging duty in the Ops Center or call in for resupply drops from HQ (assuming you have radio contact). In the campaign I just finished I spent the entire game keeping my base built and maintained entirely through construction material drops.

Also, sieges get loving intense in the late game, it's crazy trying to hold the LZ and keep the civilians alive when all the gates are down and four ferals spawn at the same time and all your mines are depleted. The last siege of the campaign, while waiting for my final extraction helo, was particularly ridiculous, with two Juggernauts coming in at the same time. Nothing an artillery barrage couldn't fix, though.

There's one bug I noticed, though - if the player character dies during a siege, the siege instantly ends, all the zeds vanish, the evac helicopter arrives, and the mission is counted as successful.

I'm loving sieges because I finally get a chance to use all those loud, high powered guns in the game. For Lifeline should I give everyone a gun specialization instead since they seem to be way more common than in vanilla?

Heavy or Bladed, I don't think I've ever been happy with a Blunt spec - I'd rather spec them into guns or walk them off like Grampa Simpson.

Anyone with Finesse really doesn't need a weapon - the high spin-kick is more than enough in pretty much any circumstance. Heavy Weapons can tear through a horde in seconds with a twinkie. Blunt? Welp, you busted your lead pipe. Keep swinging - hope you have a couple spare and are good at hot-swaps.

Having the OP center set to "Thin the Herd" is a godsend for buying time to actually do things between sieges. I had them set to gather resources and it seemed like I was rushing back to base to stave off an attack ever few minutes but since I set them to Thin the Herd the threat level has stayed at 1 and I haven't had a siege. Probably a case of confirmation bias to an extent, but I'm tempted to just leave it on that so I can do stuff.

Also holy hell don't ever go into the tunnels. I thought it would be a nice shortcut or something like a callback to the basement in Dead Rising. It is very much not.

Thanks to the magic of Steam sales, I got this and it's DLC and decided to start off with Breakdown.

While my jackass radio person won't let me make a base anywhere, I think I'm pretty well equipped to find one eventually.

Shockingly he can get about 3 decent swings before he just says no more, by then as long as I'm not getting mobbed it works :v:

I've had surprising luck finding a string of cars around too


I'm shocked I even got this far considering not too long ago I was stranded on shipping containers, with only that pistol and bottom rifle with like 3 army zombies+couple of normal crappy ones waiting at the bottom.

I'm really happy with how much better lifeline is making me at gunplay. I'd really never used guns outside of bloater/screamer headshots before this, and now I'm finding that focus fire ARs are pretty goddamn amazing.

I'm having a lot of fun with the DLC too, it's great having new locations, and is absolutely worth $6.00. However; (and I know this is a bit of a nitpick) the voice acting has definitely NOT gotten any better. When I loaded up the DLC I turned up voice volume again in my settings to see if they improved, big mistake. The game's so much more enjoyable with voice all the way off and subtitles turned on. And I have to hand it to Undead Labs, they managed to write in an even MORE annoying radio personality than Lily.

Never understood why people dislike Lily, "Construction complete!" is adorable :3: Vienna Cho though yeah she can gently caress right off.

Anyway I just finished Lifeline and it was something in the 7 or 8 hour region. Ending wasn't anything much but I guess what was implied was okay. I was doing well for awhile, but the sieges towards the end ripped me several new ones. I lost Hawkes and Sasquatch to the same juggernaut in one attack, and by the end of the game I had a half-dozen soldiers of whom only two weren't either sick or badly injured. Me, as Kilo, and Vince blundered out the back of a warehouse into a horde of zombies so big the game couldn't handle them all. Then a juggernaut charged in out of nowhere and murdered Vince. Kilo's gonna have a lot of survivor's guilt about turning around and running the gently caress away. :v:

Can't say I saw anything wrong with the AI personally, they were fighting and stuff as they should. Not terribly effective but not a burden either. I do wish, however, that the game let you escort allies back to base if you help them do a mission. Me and Deeber killed a bunch of stuff, but because she was injured, she wouldn't come with me and started running off through the hordes. I had to clear them out before I could chance getting far enough away that she'd despawn and be safe. Just get in the drat truck it's right here!

I also wish you could take more than one person with you at once, maybe at the expense of the base being able to perform "Thin the herd" and the other stances effectively.

Still that's a lot of words being a downer on something I really enjoyed. Definitely got my money's worth and definitely going to continue giving Undead Labs money for any further content.

I think in the first round of Breakdown you need to join an existing community. See if you can find an enclave. Worst comes to worse I think the church is basically free.

Now let us play breakdown in the new map or lifeline with the different homebases in the regular map. It's still be good if we could mod the homebases more, like add more defenses etc.
