Krakkles posted:I'm curious about this ... Mine seems to go in and out fairly frequently, and my plan so far is to simply R&R it. But I'd like to not have to. Pop off your hatch liner, and look at the back of the latch. There's a control arm on there that runs from the hatch door handle mechanism to the latching mechanism. It's threaded on one end and just clamped into a plastic/metal housing. Pop it out of the housing, hold open your rear hatch handle, pull up on the rod until the latch is fully open, and pop it back into the housing. Boom, your rear latch works again, assuming nothing else is broken in the handle assembly. They apparently rattle loose over the years. Replaced under warranty 2 months ago already torn and loose such a terrible design on these definitely made for comfort not performance. Replaced them with SRT8 versions as you can see they are much beefier

Started painting engine bits. That head and the hoses are scrap don't worry I'm not that dumb. I figured Detroit Alpine Green fit the ridiculousness of this project (and the amount of oil it leaked in its first life) best.

Another picture dump! The Beetle in the parking lot at work: Speakers? What could these be for? Midway through cutting: It didn't really need much taken out, but still necessary. All that work for a sliver of metal: Old and busted: New hotness: You can even choose your colors for day and night mode! (tapped into headlight circuit for dimming trigger) I mounted the microphone behind the screen to the left, by the wheel: Fixed the dome light! Doesn't pop fuses anymore, and isn't a broken piece of poo poo plastic. I found a brand new dome light cover underneath the rear seat (excellent call, 13 INCH): New reflectors in the turn signals, and new wire covers between the signals and the trunk (old ones rotted away, leaving open wires to the elements in the fender): I need to tackle the poo poo wiring. I've given it a once-over, and there's no immediate short or fire danger, but I'd like to clean it up and maybe label things. I did "acquire" a dyno label maker from my last job. The PO was a fan of electrical tape and butt crimp connectors, and I hate both of them (shrinkwrap and soldering for the win): For now, we'll cover it up with the blower motor box! I did get it working again (PO had disconnected it) by hitting it a few times and cycling the switch. It blew out a couple of leaves and probably dead mice dust, made a whine, and now it blows air strongly. Too bad I don't have the side ducts connected back up yet: What is this hose? It's connected to the valve-like object in the background (thermostat or something?) on the air intake: Does it connect to one of these that the PO blocked off? I found the missing evap canister hoses, and reconnected those up, and removed the fuel filter in the engine bay, as 13 INCH suggested: Yeah I don't know what the gently caress: This is a temporary fix for the cracked to poo poo tail light lens until my newish ones arrive in a few days: Next on the list: Fix the license plate light. It was what was causing my right tail light and license plate light fuse to blow constantly. I've left it disconnected for now, and I've regained my right tail light, so I may not have as high of a chance being pulled over now. Hopefully.

If you get pulled over, just say you figured you got caught speeding when asked I threw a new air filter, coolant temp sensor, and power steering pressure hose in it. Hopefully it will now get better fuel economy and stop leaking power steering fluid everywhere at a rate of roughly 1 cup a week. I would say it is pretty much done. 3 cracked blisters, and one completely broken open.

Since my truck is over 80" wide, last week I put on these ID markers: Yesterday I added the outside pair: And replaced the corroded license plate lights which weren't working with LEDs: And now it's wonderfully visible. All of the new lights emit a nice glow on the surroundings. Then today I gunk'd the engine and power steering to see why my power steering gets so gross but doesn't appear to lose any fluid ever. The return hose has visible cracks and is weeping, but the pressure hose looks good. I'll likely just replace both. The steering also felt better when I drove it but I think that's unrelated. And the metal bit wasn't included. So I had to be rather gentle with it.)

I got the forklift up and running to full power running on it's own fuel pump. it was a pain in the rear end. I actually had to loosen each injector one by one to bleed the air out. I've got the lovely electric pump plumbed inline, and i'm going to wire it to a switch so it can prime the whole system if the forklift sits for a while again. Then it started pouring rain so i decided i would start puting the subaru back together. The rear end in a top hat who took it apart didn't label any of the bolts, and lost the support bar for under the rear seat.

Solved the coolant leak in the truck. Turned out the old heater hose had at least one pinhole in it, so it was spurting pretty good when I checked under the hood with the engine on. Should probably replace the radiator hoses next since they're old and the upper is starting to bulge a little at the radiator end. Not really looking forward to the drain, refill, & burp though.

Also, This is an 08 with 100,000 kms, and there is no paint left anywhere on the rear suspension, and the rear suspension bushings look more weathered than my 40 year old lincoln. Fuel pump fuckery from yesterday.

I have to settle for 245 on my 17x9 as my guards are double skinned and buckle irreparably if your flare them beyond a few mm. Rolling the lip is as good as it gets. Still looks boss as poo poo though.

Figured out why my car was throwing a MAF code + a bunch of fuel trim codes. Might also explain the awful mileage I was getting this summer.

Put the summers on the KR, figured being june we'll probably only get snow once or twice more before fall. Painted one of my future summer wheels that was missing a bunch of paint around the lip. The match is waaaaaaaaaay off, but the satin clear brought it a little closer. got all the cars out of the garage and swept it for the first time in 2 years. I had to do a battery shuffle and charge the odd one out throughout the day because they're all hosed. the powerstroke battery got charged and went into the lincoln, then charged the lincoln battery and stuck it in the subaru, charged the subaru battery and then stuck it in the forklift. the forklift battery blew up like a baloon, so i'm pretty sure that's just going in the garbage. And now there's a massive thunderstorm rolling in, so i put everything where it's going to go for the next month or so while i work on stuff. I swear, some day i'm going to start measuring things before i start. I'm gonna put all my winter/burnout wheels into storage to free up some space. who said 5'6" boxes were useless Oh (don't worry, i wrapped them in garbage bags to protect the leather.) that's a full set of 245/45r18s and 275/65r20s on wheels and aired up in the box. They fit absolutely perfectly with just enough clearance for the cover hinges. edit: also started a god drat list. Powershift fucked around with this message at 03:59 on Jun 4, 2014 |

Shipping my tires out a trunkload at a time to a friend who is taking care of mounting them for me. Just got the RE760s for the Impreza back, and put them on the set of junkyard-dog Speedlines I got a few summers ago and never bothered to use: The Miata only has one set of wheels so it had to be put up on (mismatched) space savers and jackstands while it waits for its wheels to come back wrapped in Rivals: My garage floor needs to be washed something fierce, but soon I'll be able to drive around in +25C without the sweet sound of studded winter tires clicking away beneath me.

I broke an oil pan bolt, then extracted the gently caress out of it. Cheap impact-rated Torx sockets actually make really good easy-outs. Then I stuffed a shiny hunk of iron back in a hole it came out of, and got photobombed by an A/C compressor.
