Kitfox88 posted:I just accidentally got the rank 6 Wired Claws stuff while leveling her up to try and get the rank 5 ones. The guide I was looking at didn't even mention rank 6 stuff existing. I'll note you can seemingly access the conditions for the Rank 6 weapons direct from the weapon gallery without any pre-conditions, as far as I'm aware. The Rank 5s are more annoying in that you need to clear every story mode before it will deign to tell you how to get them.

Ambivalent posted:It isn't so bad. Set it to Beginner, put on a TV show or something, and get a character with a horse and do skirmish maps over and over. You can clear skirmish maps in less than 30 seconds easy. It's still 100 battles for the super (terrible) elephant but oh well. You can save between battles and turn off the game and it still counts as consecutive too, so there's that. I did Ambition mode on Beginner/Easy, just because that way hitting 100% subjugation would usually mean I'd gotten all the officers out of it. I still ended up short 3 officers, and had to go back looking for them after I was 'done'. It's too bad, I really liked the idea of having my own army helping fight the battles, but that "retreating generals are set free" gimmick can go eat a dick. Even on Beginner with a totally twinked out character there were stages where one of my commanders would get wrecked before I could get to them. It also doesn't help that they don't call out for assistance like they do in other modes.

Okay so I'm kinda getting my butt kicked here in in DW8XXXL which I'm not really used to. I only get crap weapons on normal, so I thought I'd play on hard, but now I keep dying. Do you need to level up on normal before hard is really viable? Are some levels just really hard on hard? I was playing some level where you have to escort a caravan with the emperor in it, I forget the name. It was just a constant battle of officer after officer, although I managed to take them out, but then Lu Bu shows up and its like welp I guess there was probably some trick where you're supposed to ignore him like on Hu Lao Gate? It didn't seem like it though. Lu Bu was following me all around the map no matter what I did, and that stupid caravan just stopped and wouldn't move further until I did something. I just wanna play as Xiauhou Dun and Ma Chao and Gan Ning and Zhou Tai and get their ultimate weapons Seems like I need to play through the game a few times on story mode and unlock all the stages first though, eh?

It also doesn't help that they don't call out for assistance like they do in other modes. Regardless of the difficulty, your allied generals perform about exactly the same. At risk of spoiling the magic: The real basic trick is that every single Subjugation map has one to two prongs of aggression from the enemy. You have to sort of 'derail' that advance on each front as fast as possible, by riding out to meet the most imminent one, and (typically) sending your bodyguards to stall the other prong, either through Secure Location or stuff like Ambush/Fire Attack/Poison Trap/Allied Charge/Allied Defense. I played through most all of Subjugation maps on Hard or Chaos, and once I figured out generally how this worked, I cleared most every battle without losing a single Lieutenant. The maps where something went wrong or I just wasn't fast enough, I would lose four Lieutenants, tops, and I only ever lost a Captain once in the entire time (Sun Quan, you big baby). I don't know how much it effects, but I had my 8 possible Playable officers always as generals/captains, and never as lieutenants. Beyond that, Daqiao seemed to perform the same as Lu Bu.

Even if you don't have issues staying alive, you'll take so long killing everything that you'll fail a lot of stage objectives. Getting crap weapons is just part of the deal. The best way to get good weapons is to make them yourself, which you can do down the line, once you've leveled up the blacksmith in Ambition Mode.

An additional tip for farming weapons: Weapons stay even if you fail a stage. It's a little faster to let the commander kill you and restart the stage than to finish and start over. Also I built a maxed Harp and oh God I don't need to leave my horse ever again. What's the story of Cai Wenji appearing in DW?

On the subject of random Musou mash-ups, I did joke to my friend the other day about a Game of Thrones Musou just because for whatever dumb reason, my mind thought the political backstabbings in that series would make for an entertaining Western equivalent to RotTK (since we already got a Trojan Musou and Bladestorm, disappointing though they may be). Thinking on it though, it would make for a silly and preposterous game, as suddenly every small event has to be expanded and exaggerated as an excuse to have a huge battlefield since there's not a lot of huge battles in the series, so now Catelyn Stark is raising up an entire army to seize Tyrion at the inn, Tyrion's trial by combat would involve him and Bronn just taking on every knight in the Aerie, knocking them out the Moon Door when possible, and of course it is not a good idea to pursue The Mountain. Course, Dynasty Warriors does like to exaggerate a lot of the escape sequences, so there's some precedent for it. I'm just entertained by the idea of a scenario where Hodor or Rickon take the Iron Throne, since you gotta add in hypothetical scenarios where characters don't die or they win instead of losing like they should.

I want to understand the fiddly bits of DW8: Extreme Legends. Where do I start? E: Specifically what do the stars mean, what do the "Ex" mean, and what do the elements mean? But maybe just like a game manual .pdf Turtlicious fucked around with this message at 08:11 on Jun 10, 2014 |

I believe there's probably a digital manual, depending on what platform you're on. But, these things I can explain. The stars are compatibility. Weapons come in one of four categories: Dash, Dive, Whirlwind, and I Forget The Last One's Name. Basically if you get it up to 4 stars(level up enough and you fill in the black stars), you can do that thing with any weapons in the category. They're basically a little extra trick with the weapon; a pseudo double-jump, a quick recover that you can do from even minor hits, extra area-damage when you attack, and a quick rushing follow-up to strong attacks. Ex is the character's signature weapon. You get a pair of second strong attacks, each following one of the strong attacks in the move set. You'll recognize these second attacks because the character flashes gold when they do it. The elements, do you mean Heaven/Earth/Man or Fire/Ice/etc.? The first set are just rock paper scissors. You go up to a named officer, they'll have a colored weapon like yours, and there'll either be a red ! caution sign, a blue jeweled thingy, or nothing over their head. Red means you're doing less damage and not making them flinch(but you can counter), blue means you're poking at them some even through their blocks(and can get a flurry button-mashy takedown if you hit them enough to knock all the chunks of the blue off), nothing means neither. If you meant the second set, well, there should be an "Elements" button down at the bottom that tells you what to hit for an explanation of what's on your weapon. I know on the Vita it's triangle, so there's a fair chance it's your strong attack button. Hope this helped.

Turtlicious posted:Thanks! I'm on steam, no downloadable manual. If there was an upload of the manual I'd love to get my hands on it. Interim Save Data is just in-stage "quicksaves." All of your progress in all of the various modes are autosaved and recorded as you go along. Feel free to jump around the various story modes/Ambition mode and do what you like. If you want to resume your place in a campaign, you can just go to Stage Select and "Play All."* Speaking of which, I recommend giving Ambition Mode a shot while you're at it, as there's a lot of game features that are really only unlocked by playing that mode like weapon crafting, bodyguards, and most companion animals. The only reason to do Story Mode first is just to automatically level various characters up as you go. There's no real compelling reason to finish Ambition Mode but it's nice to have the home base available to return to between campaigns. *EDIT: Select a Stage, then when it asks if you want to just Play Stage or Play All, the former just plays the one stage, the latter lets you continue the campaign from there. That's your Leadership score. You raise it by doing "Feats" such as telling your bodyguards to do their special skill in battle, doing "Ally Bonus" objectives in Ambition Mode battles, or those extra "Mission Info" objectives in Free Mode. There's other ways to get Feat points, but those are the most reliable. It's measured per-character, though. So it can get grindy if you wanted to play around with other characters.

The amount of Grind is...weird. I mean, it allows you to play with your team you want. But the only places to USE that team are Free Mode and Ambition-story isn't affected since you don't have access to your choice of bodyguards, animals or bodyguard powers there, and the moves aren't necessarily great for Free.

Just watched the Nintendo E3 thing and Hyrule Warriors was in it. Pleasantly surprised by Midna being confirmed. Figured Zelda would be, but nice to get proof of that too. Hopefully there's more than seven playable characters though, especially since they mentioned in the promo that the Dynasty Warriors games have a lot of characters and they want people to be able to play as their favorites.
