I never knew about TAS before that album (granted I just "discovered" the metal/deathcore scene like two years prior, so it's not like I've been there from the beginning) and it got me hooked on them.

Thanks! It's interesting because leading up to the interview I was asking some friends what their favorite TAS album was and I got a lot of Dead Walk and Wormwood responses. I think it's pretty widely accepted as two of their most important albums. As much as I like DITOM, Wormwood just feels better put together. It's cool that DL pretty much did everything for DITOM but I'm glad they'll have a producer for the new album.

That interview was loving top shelf man. I think you very successfully avoided the pitfall of asking the same.loving.questions these dudes get all the time, ie "What were your 3 biggest influences" "What dead famous person would you have dinner with" etc etc. Vincent seems like the guy who would have no patience for that bullshit so I bet he enjoyed talking to you. I'm stoked as gently caress on their new record. I listen to Above/Below at least once every workout. So crunchy and groovy.

Wow, thanks for the positive feedback, guys. I've literally never done anything like this before and I was nervous as poo poo that it was going to suck, but I'm really glad to hear that it didn't. I think the fact that I'm such a big TAS fan allowed me to dodge all the typical questions one might ask. If I ever had the opportunity to do something like this again I would certainly do my homework beforehand so I wouldn't have to ask bullshit blanket questions resulting in a boring interview. Glad you guys enjoyed it.

Oh I'm sure there are plenty, haha. The interview was done over the phone where I called him via Google Hangouts and recorded the phone with my iPhone and then typed it all up. What a pain in the rear end it was, took me all day. I've never done anything like that before and don't know any other methods without buying some stupid software.

See, their last album is what took me from casual fan to fanboy. I'm really looking forward to the new release. Haven't listened to the stream yet though because I have a quick road trip the day the album drops and I'm saving it for the drive. Also, if anyone cares, killwhitneydead just released a new album and I'm really digging it.

I don't hate Davey by any means, I just liked their earlier sound so much.

I have mixed feelings on the production--Ballou is great, but he kind of made it feel less like ETID and more like every other band he produces--but the songs are really loving good which is what matters. On first listen it's not as good as Ex Lives but slightly better than New Junk.
|
# ? Jun 15, 2014 15:15 |
|
I've read a lot of criticism about Ballou produced albums lately, I'm going to have to check that out. Personally I feel like New Junk is a stronger album than Ex Lives. NJA has way more overall energy than Ex Lives and I find myself going back to it way more often.
|
# ? Jun 15, 2014 15:53 |

NJA has my two favorite ETID songs in Wanderlust and Organ Grinder, but Ex Lives just clicks better as a whole for me. Kurt Ballou has produced a ton of great albums in the past few years but they do all feel sort of the same, and on this one he puts Keith a bit lower in the mix than I'm used to.

I like New Junk more than Ex-Lives, but I'd have to say that The Big Dirty is my favorite of all their releases. I really looking forward to From Parts Unknown, but I think I'm going to wait til the actual release date. I'm trying to stop DL'ing music, even if it's just a "until this actually comes out" kind of thing. (but, maybe not)

I saw them a few weeks ago in Sydney on their Australian tour and it was really, really piss weak. The band was not getting into it at all and looked like they had somewhere better to be. They had some minor technical issues that the opening bands worked through without any issues but it caused them to basically stop for a half minute between every song and gently caress around. So there was no flow to the set, the crowd weren't getting into and to top it off the singer was making cricket chirping noises between sets. The only song people got excited for was Justice.
