It's nice to see that the mount with the "fastest sprint speed in the game" is available before OB to purchase with cash.

Thanks to that HuatAh war last week, BD will have to wait until next week for the Snowsword Eclipse to happen if it doesn't happen tomorrow. More involved than the Eunuch's last-hit-everything eclipse.

The guy may be on to something, and if he is, it is hilarious. You buy gold from illegal gold sellers, then they sell your name back to Snail so you can be banned. It's pretty loving genius. Beyond all that, though:

quote:

Every 2-3 days I purchase 4D from snail. Every purchase I make from snail I have to go through an elaborate dance. Contacting not only snail gm's but several of my banks, and skrill itself. Why more then one? Because each card I use will be locked out by Skrill from making a purchase for 24H's. Annoying but easily remedied. I send money to an offshore account bypassing America and obtaining my purchase. Many of you may be experiencing the same thing. Not being able to purchase from snail directly but do not have access to off shore accounts.

Jesus.

I would not go so fast as to discredit the whole thing as a rambling madman placard. I managed to read a lot of anti-corruption unit declassified reports (while not working within the law i love reading about it, its a hobby of mine) and i have seen more complex scheme for saving or making probably less money than snail would get from such a idea.

Snail had show before than it can move very, very fast and with complete competence when its money making way are threatened. Wile customer service and game support are piss poor i'm pretty sure the revenue technician are top notch and monitoring things daily. You can not expect a company from a country with a culture of kickback and "acceptable" corruption to turn clean the moment it set a foot in California.

Mersin is without a doubt a special character but if you remember ten year ago someone was screaming at the top of his lung than Bernard Madoff was running a Ponzi scheme and nobody believed him, no matter how much proof he brought forth. Guess everyone was surprised come march 2009.

And on a pure, pragmatic business sense, the scheme work. Why bother setting in place a complex, layered security system that i have to maintain , update and redesign with each major patch when i can simply offer the gold seller to get paid twice (once for selling the player tael, once for selling me the player details) and then have the player repay me again to get un-banned. A company that care in repeat business, customer satisfaction and privacy would never consider such idea but we are talking about Snail and a semi-legal gold sellers here. None of them having ever made promises about privacy and security of our data. Chinagame does not even have a Eula like many mmo when you log in.

This practice of allowing you to buy back after you void the (existing?) Eula is unique to Snail i believe. I would love to know if any other MMO allow such practice.

EVE doesnt outright ban you from illegal currency trading, they just take the total money you bought from your wallet. This often leads to massive negative value wallets with very little ways of going back to black without buying plexes and selling them in the market. I remember some years ago there was a massive RMT sweep that lead to several top rollers with negative wallet accounts in the tens of billions, they then proceed to mass buy plexes to pay of their debt, crashing the plex market for a few weeks.

The problem with doing this in Wushu is they would have to destroy the items and skills bought with the cash, rather than the cash itself. The buy back practice of Snail is a massive issue that's wide open for corruption. The big issue is they don't NEED to do these things to make money, but whatever. The US market of this game is a cash grab by the company, and the entertainment derived from it comes from the players.

Well sort of but not entirely. In EVE you still keep all the things you bought with the illicit money. The only difference is that after the player regains a positive wallet the total effect that the RMT has on the economy is very close to 0 . In AoW the end outcome is that the currency will still be inside the system, but this would have happened even if the player didnt buy the currency illegally. Like if Mutou bought 10D from an illicit chinaman and got caught by Snail and they later ransom his account for 10D worth dollars at their rates. If Mutou pays, the end result in the system is the same; 10 dings were added to it.

The problem really stems from Snail selling taels in the first place. If they had a direct gold for player owned tael market it would be a little less cashgraby and would lead to less fuckery of the markets on their own part.

While a lot of the things he mentioned are a stretch, if you read to his second post he does bring up a good solid piece of evidence. How does Snail know that he made two orders for the total of 8D? The only entities that exist with access to that information are himself, TPL, the bank, and Skrill (if I understood correctly they're basically the transaction processor for TPL). Since this information has never been processed by Snail or any of it's servers then it means it would have had to been acquired from either TPL or Skrill the latter being more likely.

Honestly as much as I am buttmad at Snail for unjustly banning my WT account, I'm pretty sure they're too loving incompetent to orchestrate something like this. From a programming perspective the concepts tracking illicit ling is loving retarded, so they're likely just tracking various transactions made on Skrill, probably because Snail is like their "large" only customer because why the gently caress would anyone use that poo poo when Google Pay/PayPal/Amazon/Zen Cart/etc make for exponentially better payment processors?

Mersin, with his two lawyers on retainer and his accountant who holds all his funds for him, has always been one of the craziest spergs in the room.

There doesn't need to be an elaborate conspiracy here when all Snail has to do is pay some guy who works minimum wage in China at TPL 10bux for every gold buyer name they provide.

Can you guys seriously imagine Snail being competent enough to run a complicated racket to fleece the whales that are the only things bringing money into the game?

I really really do not understand their pricing scheme. They can't honestly think most people (who aren't spoiled rich kids or morons with more dollars than sense) would drop that amount of money, surely.

$0.03 per tael is a ridiculous price and then wanting 20 ding worth of money for a camel is just :eyepop:

That said, there will be several running around soon I'm sure.

It could be in the design philosophy to induce people to buy things--monkeying with their perceptions. Throw out a large number, $600 (or $12,000). Now that $30 doesn't seem so large--but if you started with $5, that $30 seems like a lot. Folks do that in mediation for settlements all the time. I remember reading science on it and that this strategy measurably affects even the perceptions of otherwise really savvy people who are aware of the effect.

So what is seen is the $600, and you rationally don't buy. You see lots of people not buy. You rationally wonder wtf snail is thinking. What is not seen are the people who are induced to buy a $30 item--or a $30 item instead of a $10 item--who would not have otherwise. That is I think the real power of the sale.

This kind of monkeying with perceptions is the same way that the funny money tael/gold in the game works--it's the casino-chips-notion that people handle tokens representing money less mindfully than actual money. The game is inundated with that type of sleight of hand; the $600 camel is just an extension of that philosophy.

tldr: If everything was just $5, it's possible that people would be more careful with their $5 than if some things were $600 and some things were $5.

Swordsman beta is up a little early, giving it a try and Im actually impressed with the presentation right now. Chinese voice acting with proper english subtitles, a UI that is much easier to read and on the eyes, character creation is pretty in depth with sliders for just about everything (also multiple hair styles and hair colors, not everyone has black hair), 3 modes of movement (Chinagame classic click and move, typical 3d mmo and "action" mode (think neverwinter more so than gw2).

Also by the time you are done with the tutorial (like 10 minutes) you'll already be ready to pick a school, you click on each guide and they tell you about it and have video tutorials on each of the schools 3 styles. Its pretty awesome.

Combat seems pretty meaty as well, killing npcs have them go all ragdoll on you and the weapons they have fly all over the place. You can even kick em while they are dead to move the corpse around.

e- Negatives include basically no threat so far at level 10. (like 20 minutes into it). There is no chance for me to die, this could be because I picked a tanky healer class but I doubt it. Questing is basically Wushu click and move to location, kill or talk to whatever the quest is telling you to do. There are tons of people, hundreds on screen at a time and it can bog down the framerate. Combat gets sort of stiff but Im thinking thats because of the level given the videos in the game about the styles. I'm assuming i'll get attacks with momentum later on. Im going to try out another class and see if it feels the same.

No, it is literally they intentionally cater for the 600 crowd. They even had the interview with Chinese CEO/CFO on the aow forums for a while about the expansions and code work for Chinese version--and one of the questions was about the continuous large ticket items pricing, in which he smugly answered that was the clientel they were developing and delivering towards. This game is entirely designed to deliver a service to a small segment. The remaining population are there to also assist with delivering said service to that segment: cannon fodder, parade gawkers, etc.

You found Arus in this game.

Also I take back what I said about the combat feeling stiff. The classes have really different feel to how they operate and I was just not feeling Infinity that much. Moved to Harmony and its boss as hell. Dash attacks, poison attacks that disintegrate mobs when you kill them, attacks that leave a trail of after images. Plus I carry around an umbrella sword without spending 50 bucks for it.

Im assuming that by the time you are 35 you'll have people above the affection minimum to establish a guild as long as you do instances together. Theres also something called a "gang" that requieres the player to have 999 affection together. God knows how thats different. Guilds apparently are divided into carebears and griefers and the type of guild you pick dictates the activities you do.

I still dont know if there is actual guild vs guild combat but apparently you can be dicks by denying people access to your territory and steal poo poo from their vaults.

There are non pvp zones which are towns and schools, open pvp everywhere else.

There are two types of guilds, or guild actions. I won't know until level 35. But there are bandits and mercenary groups.

The help file is really good, and there are differences between the two groups. If you are a bandit, you kidnap someone, torture them, get a confession, then can spend up to 3 confessions a day to hijack carts.
