I feel like I've bought 40 adventure games today. I'm kind of iffy on anything by Daedalic outside Edna and Harvey but Dark Eye for 2 bucks can't be that bad.

For those who don't know, you can manually add the games from the bundles to your cart and the bundle discount will be automatically applied. This lets you get multiple bundle deals without having to checkout for each one. I don't know why the bundle pages themselves don't let you add them to a cart directly, but there you go!

Oh thank god, I thought I was the only one. The most terrifying thing however, is that it starts all over again with the Steam sale tomorrow :stonk:

The Steam Sale probably won't beat $3.74 Rogue Legacy, right? I have it wishlisted there but it's probably done needing updates and the like, I'd think.

I doubt it since it was a special last week at 66% off, will probably just match it at best.

My undying hate for Steam saves me from Steam sales.

I have three things left on my wishlist; Banished, Shadowrun DLC, and Blackguards DLC. Has anyone seen them come up on the flash sales, or should I just pull the trigger and buy them while they're on reduced price?

There are not really any advantages of having Age of Wonders 3 (the deluxe edition) on Steam (compared to GoG), are there? I'm asking because GoG right now is asking for $30 for the deluxe edition (~€21) and I'm wondering whether it'll get any cheaper than that during the (Steam) summer sale.

Just gotta keep walking down that road.
Hard to say how cheap it'll get, but don't expect a massive price drop since it's a fairly recent game that sold quite well to boot.

Geneforge is good. But Avadon is a good intro to the spiderweb style if you start there. Not as much freedom with your character, though. And a more traditional world than Geneforge which is sci fi mixed with fantasy.

Not well? i've only played the first one but it's pretty much a case of <<group all your guys (4) together and click on enemies as you/they approach>>

Yeah, they aren't exactly XCOM.

On the other hand, I found them to be a nice nostalgia trip and they aren't actively painful to play like some old games are.

I haven't played WC1 since I was in high school when it first came out, but I do recall at that time that using a joystick with at least two buttons was very helpful. Let me know if that does anything for you.

Honestly, just play the game with only surviving the mission as your goal. The game adapts to the missions you succeed and fail at. No matter what ending you get, it's a great time. Just don't get stressed out when you lose a carrier escort mission to a bullshit Dralthi patrol ambush.

Go through the escort missions backwards. You'll have a much easier time with those missions since battles happen based on your position.

Well, he doesn't mean literally backwards like driving your ship around rear end-first. But you can bring up your navmap and circle through NAV 3 - NAV 1 instead of NAV 1 - NAV 3 and that will work.

I always give GOG preference, myself. I always get annoyed when I break down and buy a game on Steam, only for it to come out on GOG later.

I'm not sure about Banished, but Blackguards with the DLC was on a flash deal at least twice, for $14.99 if memory serves - I thought briefly about getting it. If you want just the DLC, I'm afraid that I can't say. I picked up Shadowrun base during the insomnia sale, and Dragonfall was #1 on my wish list coming into this event. Despite being quite attentive I have yet to see it on a flash, so I broke down and bought it for $9.99.

It's so drat good. I've forgotten most of the little details from the first two Thief games and when I go back to replay them it's gonna be so sweet. Only video game that ever managed to worm its way into my sleep.

Thief is best played with the headphones on, the sound turned up, the lights turned off, on the highest difficulty, with your gamma perfectly tuned, and with plenty of patience. And a stomach for graphics that were low-poly even in 1998 (gamma settings + shadows helps with this).

Not 100%, no. I have a slightly vague memory "Deluxe", but I am 100% positive that there was a Blackguards... something for $14.99. Of that I am sure.

Just checking here.
What exactly is GOG's patching system or is it different for every game? A lot of times I read people having to download the original installer again and re-install the game over itself to patch. That seems super inefficient.

I'm hoping when GOG Galaxy comes out, it'll just have the ability to auto-patch like Steam because that's the one giant thing holding me back from ever buying a newly-released game on GOG. Older games are pretty much set, but I'd hate to have to manage patches on my own again like in the 90s.

It depends. In many cases, particularly newer games that are larger they just release a patch installer that brings you up to date. I think reinstalling with the full installer is only used on older smaller titles that are hard to patch. (These updates are usually to the emulation anyway)

Yep, the missions are huge and if you're making an effort to ghost them and get most/all of the loot, you can easily spend multiple hours on most individual missions.

On the other hand, if you're speedrunning it, you can blow through the whole game in like half an hour, with a conga line of guards behind you the whole way.

I note that if you haven't already done this, you should install using TFix (Thief 1) or TafferPatcher; this automatically gets them all set up to play nice with modern systems, including automatically installing the NewDark patch for widescreen support and whatnot.

Captain Scandinaiva

Yeah, I thought about it and I doesn't make much sense that it would be cheaper, considering how recent it is. Bought it anyway. Didn't really like the direction of the series in the last game but people here seem to like the new one, so.

Great.

I've noticed that GOG now routinely sets game executables for all games as requiring admin rights to run, whether this is needed for compatibility or not. Probably to get around UAC issues for folks who install directly to c:\Program Files. It's mildly annoying.

Rune is a really fun game but you spend half the campaign stuck in dreary caves and tunnels and wondering when you get back to awesome viking ice village fortresses. Every time you think it's about to end, you enter a new area, even more dreary than the one before.

It's otherwise great and the combat is really, really fun, but... be warned, I guess.

If it comes up again, its okay but unfortunately it goes downhill as the episodes go on. They become shorter, spend more time solving long puzzles in single locations, and the ending just doesn't really tie much together. It doesn't have the best production values either since it was a kickstarter from back when that wasn't a big thing so the voice acting and animations aren't all that great at times and it seems they were hoping the earlier episodes were going to sell more than they did given the length of the last two episodes. It does have a pleasing art style at least, and it doesn't shy away from gore what with the serial killer motif. I might have taken less issue with the decreasing episode length if I had played them all at once though so if you're doing that it might be better than as I experienced it. Starts strong but doesn't quite bring it home well.
