Goon Air Race in DCS starts in an hour and 40 minutes. We have endless respawns for the Mustangs that start on an airfield. The engine is running so that no complex startup procedures hinder our fun. You can try to taxi, takeoff and land as many times as you want. Labels are on for easy spotting. Basically this is the chance for total newbies to learn the ropes around the game and have some fun flying around together and the more experienced can race with the taste of blood in their mouth. Here is a quick guide for what you need to get airborne and what controls you need to map: -Brakes. You need to go to control settings, under "TF-51", select tab "Systems". From there, assign left wheel brake and right wheel brake separately however you want them to. I have them on keyboard Q and E and both brakes activate from W. -Throttle. Go to "TF-51" and under "Axis Commands", make sure that your throttle is your throttle and your rudder is rudder. These are sometimes reversed for this plane, most likely ED loving with us. You will spawn in the Mustang on the taxiway, with your engine running. Go to external view with F2 if necessary. Slowly apply throttle and use rudder and wheel brakes at the same time to turn carefully. Do not overcompensate. When and if you get to the runway, slowly apply full throttle. Your plane will yaw to the left, so apply some opposite rudder to counter this. When you are airborne, hit G to take your gear up. You are now airborne, woohoo! Join the formation. Here is a quick visual reference: (I can't type, apparently. In my defense I speak six languages so suck it) Vahakyla fucked around with this message at 18:48 on Jun 21, 2014 |

Server is up! Mumble is CTS, info on OP first paragraph. In DCS Multiplayer client, the server name is "LAME goon DCS". Password: lljk Get in, you got 40 minutes until race organization starts, so plenty of time to practice (ram) and to get your bearings on.

Really wish there was a way to drop a mark point with your HSD in Falcon BMS. When a bro asks for help at a particular Bullseye I can uncenter the HSD and zoom it out far enough to figure out where that bulls coordinate is with the cursor but you can't actually put a mark point there unless you switch to AG mode and couple the GM radar to your HSD cursor and drop a mark point using FCR-MARK. Either that or just put the HSD cursor at the right spot and turn while sort of eyeballing that you're going the right way. Gonna start demanding, DEMANDING! that all help calls be given in full Lat/Long coordinates for manual steerpoint entry with the DEST page. When we have flights that are operating in the same general area we really outta make sure they're part of the same package so that we can datalink them all together. Way easier to find a friendly in trouble when you just need to fly toward a green icon. ^^ Is it actually possible for an AMRAAM to fly more than five miles in DCS before it falls out of the sky? That eight ship of MIG-29s that I blindly fired at? Took out four of them; AMRAAMs are scary missiles. Unfortunately the pilot is not as scary and managed to deploy his landing gear while over 500 knots, bad noises were heard. Thankfully BMS does let you belly land an F-16: I was here when the rapture began: Going to depart early today for work bullshit. Had a good time folks. Shame the campaign engine cleans thing up occasionally. Seosan should be looking like a garbage dump with all the planes and plane bits we've crashed and jettisoned all over it. Icelicker and I took off from Seosan for a Planned-CAS mission against an HQ Battalion that's been sitting on the DMZ for most of the campaign. That didn't happen. En-route we ran into more of that wall of Mig-29s that the DPRK have been putting up all day and went to town. That wasn't very exciting, just lobbing AMRAAMs in from medium range and watching the pretty explosions in the distance. As we were about to return to our mission a Mig-21 decided to bother Icelicker and a Mig-19 was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This video isn't edited in any way and the resolution is poo poo because my capture software (nVidia's Shadowplay) doesn't seem to be able to handle the resolution switch from the campaign map to the 3D world and it scaled everything to 1024x768 for some reason. Also you can't hear me talking, all the voice in this is Icelicker. All the same, gently caress dogfighting at night; having your vision restricted to a little tube is harsh. Mig-19 at around 0:45. Mig-21 at around 3:40. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i21AHwHApA

BARCAPS and stuff are fun, but the debriefing screen is harsh "FAIL: You left your station early" Hey, commander dude, I showed up on station and there were like 10 enemy planes within 15 miles of my points, so I went winchester basically instantly, knocking 6 planes out of the sky. Do you really want me to sit on my CAP point with guns only for 20 minutes? Also, don't tell me I "damaged" that two-ship of MiG-23s when I watched them limp all of 2 miles away then plummet into the ground. I'm pretty sure we're not painting kill markers on the goddamned lawn, so I expect you'll fix my logbook. But yeah, good times, we killed a lot of stuff and sometimes died. I need to figure out why my UHF/VHF is receive only, when my mic works in everything else.
