ok so a 20mm prime on a m4/3 might be useless for bird photography, but it does allow you to stumble on things like this!

(click for huge)

like, literally stumble, I nearly walked into him. When he didn't move (much), I just aimed and hoped for the best! I tried cropping but somehow I feel it lost something of the effect when I did.

Bump the Barnacle!
Pretty much the only decent shot I got at the zoo a couple weeks ago. I think I woke him up. Usually he's sleeping up on a plank of wood the zoo setup out of view, but that day he was just chilling on a rock.

I feel like this is cheating, these guys were just hanging out by the highway. I can't believe I didn't notice the loving orange pole in the background though.

Good thing Vader didn't touch my bike. Good thing for him.
I trekked out to the San Diego Zoo yesterday.

Then I was sad because I kept getting pushed into not so great spots for the panda that was eating, and these were the best pictures that came out... With a tree right in the way. (I was with my friend, his pregnant wife, and their not-quite-two-year-old son. So I couldn't just go back around and try for another picture.

I was very happy with most of my pictures, but I was getting frustrated by the reflections of all the people in the glass of the gorilla area. So I thought, "Why fight it, why not try to maximize it?" You may notice that the line of her lips matches up really well with the gorilla's. I was going for that and it turned out better than I thought.

Moments after I took this photo, the hippo turned around and liberally sprayed the area where the keeper had been standing with copious semi-liquid poo poo, efficiently spread by the rapidly flicking tail. Hippos are hilariously disguisting.

I've made a huge mistake.
If anyone is after a diversion from doing important stuff, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition are now doing a People's Choice award. It's a depressingly good* selection of 50 images, although the web page is a bit unintuitive for stepping through them.
