Browsing through the nominations for the Feminist Porn Awards :nsfw: (mouseover the tab and dig for links) is a good way to discover woman-made or -oriented, lesbian, genderqueer, etc. porn producers. There's a lot more than people would expect. I've been curious about Darkpriests opinion of it too, and whether feminist porn has any presence in the mainstream industry or if it is entirely separate, what effect it has, if any.

Crunk Abortion posted:A) Personal preference. Seconding this. A lot of manscaping is done for your partner's benefit and some of it is done to highten pleasure or even to just feel more groomed and clean. And whoever said it doesn't increase sensitivity doesn't know what they're talking about. Put it this way: Have you ever gone down on someone who just had too much motherfucking hair down there? It can be pretty unpleasant, add to the ripeness factor and there's nothing fun about scraping hair(s) off your tongue in the middle of the act. I'm not saying shave that poo poo, but at least keep it trimmed.

PriorMarcus posted:How would you go about getting a script writer, and what type of qualifications would you be looking for? Qualifications for script writing are straight forward. Experience in writing a script enough to understand the format/layout of a script and the ability to work within the confines of the project. Those confines include everything from budget confines to casting choices the producer makes. The director role is different from mainstream. The days of a person being a director in adult and only a director are somewhat gone. In this day and age the director is sometimes also a producer and often times the camera operator. I literally am the producer, photographer, editor and camera operator. The problem is there is no money for someone to just be a director. They then would need to hire all the remaining crew members which makes the budget costly. It is hard to compete with another freelance crew that can cut out all that and still do it well. Video Editors do have steady work in the industry. I'm not sure if companies are always looking for Video Editors, but it is something that nearly every company needs either on staff or freelancers.

You mentioned at one point that you'd be getting royalties for the rest of your life from your films. What does the purchase-over-time chart look like for a fairly average movie? I wouldn't really think that purchases would come in for a long time, given how much new material is coming out constantly.

I'm not sure why but the idea of being a script writer for porn just absolutely cracks me up. What I guess there's certain "higher end" stuff like Pirates or several of the parody films that I'm not considering which would certainly require a script. Come to think of it, those parody movies would be really fun to write. I just can't picture writing something like *starts sucking cock* and *begs for it in her rear end*. Don't get me wrong. I love porn, probably to an unhealthy degree, and am not making light of the work that goes into it but "professional script writer" just makes me giggle. Hope your eye is OK, DarkPriest. Cum and lube flying everywhere and whatnot. Who the gently caress cleans that poo poo up? How do they get that job and who would do it? Is it just a standard maid service or something or people hired by the porn company? Is it true that those homes are rented out by millionaires to the producers or whatever? There is no specific crew. We rent locations from location agencies just like mainstream does. Those agencies typically have specific locations that will also allow adult. It is our job after the day is over to clean up. I'm sure many of the locations also have their own maid service. Maid services are fairly common and highly affordable in SoCal. The locations charge by the hour and depending on the quality of the location can be very expensive.

Baofu posted:I was wondering if you could elaborate on this a bit. I have shot in Europe and I have also worked with a producer who comes to the States to shoot from Europe on occasion. The differences are not massive. The biggest hurdle is language barrier. You could be shooting in Europe, typically in Budapest, and one girl speaks Hungarian, the other speaks Czech, another speaks Slovakian and another speaks Russian. Some know small English phrases. Most don't know English at all. It is an odd experience to perform in a scene with someone and you can't communicate very well. You have to really rely on body language. Some of the models in Europe also tend be on the colder side. The moment that camera stops, they stop. They are very different from American performers in that sense. American performers seem to be more into the fun of it all.

Positive Optimyst posted:After your post here, I checked Mavrin. Wow, he is very talented. As a viewer I don't focus on details of quality but he he is very good. Max never recovered. He was never the same after prison. I could be wrong but I believe he couldn't even produce movies as part of his parole. The unfortunate truth is when a Republican administration is in office they go after porn. By that I mean the DOJ. They wanted to make an example of Max and they did. Due to the Miller Test requiring a jury to use "Contemporary Community Standards" to determine if something is obscene, the DOJ made sure to target Max in an area that would have more conservative leaning views. If they tried him in Los Angeles, chances are the same outcome wouldn't have had happened. The other issue is that Max was convicted for a movie that was never meant to be solid in the States. He would produce movies for Europe only. When the FBI bought the European version of his production it was up to the distributor to decide if they wanted to sell it in the States. They didn't buy it directly from Max. They bought it from a completely third party. They then gave the distributor immunity to testify against Max.

Where do they find the models? A company like Kink is very involved in the BDSM community. For that reason they find performers who have an interest in this type of activity. VirtualStranger posted:When looking at the content of the so-called "passionate" studios (X-Art, Babes.com, Passion-HD) they all seem to have a huge overabundance of a single color. Namely, white. Just about every object on their sets are white, the walls, sheets, pillows, couches, counter tops, drapes, and even the carpet is white. They even film the scenes right in front of these huge windows so that the room is flooded with as much pure white light as possible. It always has the effect of making the color palette look very muted and washed out. Because X Art did it and they all copied X Art. Before X Art, guys like Andrew Blake somewhat did it as well. It is a style that companies have copied.
