I just did my groceries and I just realize that the price of beef is completely retarded. I check a few graph and also check the increase of the price of gas and utilities and we are heading at the same point(same price peak) we were at in 2008. Are we going into another recession? sources: http://www.beefretail.org/wholesalepriceupdate.aspx

Well the price of a round steak is $18.49/kg, it used to hover around the $12.

No, this is a combination of the cutback in beef consumption during the depths of the Great Recession causing ranchers to cut back on the size of their herds, followed by a devastating drought in the prime ranching land of Texas further reducing herd size. Due to the long time span it takes to grow a calf to the right weight to be brought to slaughter there's a bit of a lag in the movement of beef prices after those kinds of things, it's why we're only really beginning to see it now even though the drought in Texas is over. It'll be a few more years of high prices before ranchers can bring their herds back up to a more reasonable size.

That's why I eat turkey burgers. 90/10 beef is stupid-expensive. Though other meats aren't up there with beef at all. I get chicken for 2/lb and pork sirloin for 2.50-3/lb. *Mixes equal parts 90/10 ground beef, ground turkey breast & mayonnaise* *cooks to lump of wet grey melting into puddle of bubbling separated mayo* "mmm mm thats some good eatin" Just buy fresh ground 70/30, pretend it's a cheap steak & sear at high heat for a couple minutes/side, finishing in a hot oven if you want it cooked past medium rare/medium, for the love of god. Well, the grill was backed up directly against vinyl siding on some load bearing drywall, it was more of a user error issue than an inevitable outcome of using 70/30 beef.

Back when the internet was young, I found a website selling exotic meats. It was a plain html website with just the choices of meat, a description, a picture, and "email for price and shipping information." Buffalo steaks and buffalo burgers at the top, then ground emu chuck. Then lion steaks and lion ribs. Hippo steaks and hippo roasts. Ground giraffe meat. And at the bottom, "We have acquired an elephant. Transporting elephant meat is illegal in many countries, so please verify that you have a way to receive it before contacting us. We will cut to specification."

I can't get on with turkey mince, it always has this slightly weird after taste. I tend to make my burger patties out of pork mince, with some fresh herbs, salt, pepper, ground chipotle, lemon juice and hickory smoke.
