Unfortunately this one is really quite boring. They are just putting gross things on popular tags, so it's the easiest thing to ignore. Don't want to risk seeing anything, don't browse the tags being affected. As soon as the tumblr mods, who are the slowest acting people in the world, start cracking down on these throwaway accounts the 4channers will get bored. Then both sides will declare themselves the winners and complain about each other for a few months.

The email field is usually left empty, and when it is used it's used for certain commands ("sage" in the email field for example adds your post while not bumping the thread to the top)

It's not hard to evade, just use a proxy. On the other hand, if you did something particularly loathsome, they probably also forwarded your information to the FBI.

As Segmentation Fault said, the e-mail field is completely optional, mostly used to 'sage' threads (posting without bumping it up), or back before the overhaul to 'noko' (to return to the thread after posting, instead of the main page). And getting around a ban is as simple as changing your IP, most easily accomplished by resetting your router or something. In their defence, 4chan moderation has really stepped it up over the past year or so, it used to be even worse. Post-limit threads on SFW boards with furry porn and the like.
