Image done by nine-gear crow! Okay, you guys know the drill (hopefully)! The point of this thread is to basically recommend LPs for folks to read. Sounds basic enough, but let's keep a few things in mind...:

I've got one. Started watching AnilEhilated's Shadow Warrior 2013 LP and it's really good. The game looks like quite a bit of fun. All the knowledge I really had of it was that it's a remake of an older shooter that involved a lot of racial caricatures and stereotypes. I figured the game would be basically another Duke Nukem Forever. So far that doesn't seem to be the case. The combat looks really satisfying and the humour is actually genuinely funny for the most part. AnilEhilated also has a really good rapid-fire commentary that fits well with the game's quick pace. The LP is worth a peek, at any rate, just because it's so uncommon to see FPSes developed solely for the PC anymore.

Geop posted:7) Please check the Master List and LPArchive.org if you're curious of whether something's been LP'd already. Also, if you're using LPArchive.org, there are numerous older LPs which you'll come across. Hosts have died over time, but many of these LPs have been uploaded to Archive.org! Keep an eye out for this banner in those cases: The internet archive banner will never be noticed.

Devil May Cry 3 Hopkins FBI Daikatana New Super Mario Bros Wii Dead Space I know that someone uploaded NSMBW to youtube but it isn't linked in the archive, actually I'm willing to bet quite a few of these are on youtube so maybe someone could look into finding them and seeing if Baldurk can add them to their respective Archive page.

You missed and/or ignored the recommendation of Disaster in the last thread, so... Disaster: Day of Crisis by Coulis and friends - Disaster is a Wii game only released in Japan and Europe that tries to tell a completely serious story about a city suffering from natural disasters, and fails miserably at it on account of having absurd gameplay mechanics and characters. Sadly, the LP was never finished, but the thirteen existing episodes are some of the funniest stuff you can find on these forums.

Geop posted:As a reminder, give me a shout if anything else is out-of-place and I'll change it accordingly You're missing a space in The Void recommendation, in between the title and byline. Admiral H. Curtiss posted:You missed and/or ignored the recommendation of Disaster in the last thread, so... He didn't add every single recommendation, I'm guessing in that case he probably didn't want to add an incomplete LP to the list.

I know YouTube LPs are frowned upon, but HideOfBeast is absurdly good at Mega Man X games. He has done minimalist runs of most of them, collecting as few power ups as possible and taking no damage. In particular I love his runs of Mega Man X1-3. No power ups, no dash, no damage. It's especially impressive for X2-3 because Dashing became an ingrained mechanic and levels were designed with it in mind. I personally love his bitter, sarcastic style of commentary, and he throughly explains every obstacle and strategy required of a challenge run like this so you understand exactly what's going on. But if you don't care for it, or prefer just gameplay he has a separate playlist of game audio only. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD5FA65F3FB1E2625 (commentary) http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8447ABF968E418F3 (no commentary)

HideofBeast is a goon, but yeah, he's extremely talented and the amount of effort he puts in doing the challenges is amazing; and I'm sure off-site recommendations are fine, especially since some are mentioned in the OP.

Fat Samurai posted:Just a minor nitpick on The Last Express recommendation. While I agree that the LP is great, both because the way Olive Branch handles subtitles and the exploration of almost all the options that game gives the player (of which are many), the game translates non-English languages on it's own. Either that or my memory is faulty AND Olive Branch knows French, Arabic, Serbian, German and probably a few others. The game only translates some conversations, and Olive branch found people who know these languages to translate the rest for him. I wanted to offer to translate the Serbian part, but someone beat me to it.

Geop's Dark Souls LP (with Vicas and various other guests) was not only a great overview of the game, it was also funny, charming, and often surprisingly erudite. One of the best LPs I've watched. Plus, as Lizard Wizard reminds me, "Geop is playing the game blind, whereas his guests know what's what." Which often led to hilarious moments.

The Kickboat Saga is a pretty classic LP by the Freelance Astronauts of modded Half Life 2. The name comes from the Gordon Kick, a physics kick included in one of the mods. For why it's the KickBOAT saga, the answer is about 10 minutes into the linked video.

Academagia is a wizard school simulator where you get admitted to, uh, wizard school and handle the year in Choose Your Own Adventure format, assisted by more stats than you can shake a stick at. Bobbin pilots a thread-created protagonist (a shadowy schemer who regularly proves that she's too clever for her own good) and ties the game's different events together with homebrew dialogue, doing a pretty good job of blending it into the game's original text.

Not really a "single LP", but MoominBiscuit and SuperGraffitis PS2 Bargain Bin thread (requires archive) has some of the most insane "game" selection and funniest duo commentary i've seen since 2007 and continues to be one of my favorites when it comes to people with great chemistry riffing on unbelievably hilarious garbage. Through some surreal miracle it appears like their blip.tv account is still alive and has (most of?) the videos. The thread was back in 09 and i don't think they ever bothered to transfer to a youtube backup.

I know what you're saying. "You're not supposed to recommend gold-rated threads!" But you might also be saying, "I don't really like/care about the Wii U, and of the games I do care about, Wonderful 101 seems kind of anonymous." (Then my wife got me one, and that first part changed.) And if you're like me, you probably said the latter. Even having seen videos of Wonderful 101, I didn't really get it and it didn't seem to hold my interest. But Chip Cheezum and General Ironicus do their thing on Wonderful 101 and you get cut and uncut commentary, gameplay tips, and the combination of expert play (Chip) and first-time experience (Ironicus). If you've seen their LPs, it's that usual five-star experience. If you skipped this at first because "much as I like C&I, I don't know that I care about this game", give it a shot. What seemed like "actiony Pikmin" is maybe more like Pikmin meets Bayonetta, while Chip shows off and gets Pure Platinum on everything (EXCEPT THAT FIRST VIDEO, HA). In fact, the only reason I stopped at episode 3-1 is because they convinced me to get the game and I'd like to experience more myself! Is there a better recommendation than that?

Kinda surprised Man With a Hat's Dead Space lp isn't on here. It's subtitled, funny, and massively informative. I think he had like 5 concurrent runs going at the same time to get footage for it. It's archived, with the internet archive banner thingy.

I don't do this much, but I feel it really needs to be added to the OP. I absolutely loved BrainWeasel's LP of Final Fantasy X-2 (good parts version). It shows off all the promise and potential the game had, is unashamed, thorough, and also absolutely beautiful. You can find it right over here. I strongly recommend it.

I have to recommend two of my favorite LPs, Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 by Taisan. (NOT ANIME) I checked the last thread and saw that slowbeef recommended one in the second post, but it deserves restating in the new thread. They are about a genre of games which are not good for LPing, primarily because there's usually not much to say about music games besides "Hitting these dots is tough" and "Boy, this song is good"! Taisan sets this one apart with his hilarious writing. Instead of just translating from japanese to english, he creates his own story which is genuinely quite funny. This is on top of the game itself being very enjoyable, with excellent music. Each episode comes with two music links. One for the in-game track and another for the original version, very hand and much appreciated. The LP is a subtitle LP with subtitles both for Taisan's commentary as well as separate subtitles "translating" the mid-level dialogue. The cutscenes are delivered with pictures and word bubbles, but Taisan dubs his voice over them.

Heffer posted:I don't disagree with you on any point, but it does seem premature to enshrine them when they're only three updates in. Four, thank you very much. It's preemptive, sure, but it's already got the standard C&I touch and more, which I think earns it a spot on the recommended list.

Darkseed 2 by Slowbeef and Diabetus. It's a weird and terrible adventure game that they manage to make entertaining, but what happens near the end is what makes it essential viewing. You don't want to skip ahead or read about what it is beforehand, because it's best if it takes you totally by surprise.

Hah, I went to recommend Psychedelic Eyeball's Spelunky LP, but it's not been archived because he still apparently has one more episode to go! Here's the thread, for anyone who wants to enjoy an informative LP of a notoriously difficult game. The commentary is appropriately light-hearted, the level of skill on show is terrifying, and once he runs out of new things to talk about he starts bringing in co-commentators to fill in the gaps.
