Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've been a casual listener for the past few years. I was surprised by the firing when I heard about it just because I was under the impression that O&A were contractors that basically got paid as a whole production company for the show they produced, so I didn't get how they could straight up fire Ant without canceling the show. I seem to remember them stating this outright, but I also remember Ant would constantly harp on the giant checks he would cut to the IRS every three months for payroll, health, etc. Am I just misremembering or did they actually have a company at one point? Did it get dissolved during the renegotiation, or maybe was just how they funded the live shows?

I mean, being liberal doesn't mean you're not a racist, but I follow her on Twitter and I've never gotten that vibe.

He cheated on her then left her for a 19 year old tbh.

All three of them are on separate contracts under SiriusXM. Ant complains about his taxes, but it isn't about Payroll. He has claimed that he himself constitutes a small business (literally!) because he hires groundskeepers and house cleaners to upkeep his mansion for him. I don't know if maybe that's what you're thinking of?

So basically Sirius was well within it's rights to cancel just Ant's contract. I'm not sure about this, not being a lawyer, but I'm guessing if they canceled the show outright that Opie and Jim at least might have a case to sue for wrongful termination or something, unless NY is an at-will employment state. That said, I do fully believe that the only reason Jim and Opie aren't walking away is out of legal obligation. I'm sure as soon as the contracts are up they will walk and join Ant. I can't conceive of them wanting to stay. But who knows.

Man, I just listened to the Back to the Future commentary, and this is the perfect example of Ant's racism being funny: He keeps bashing Goldie Wilson, blaming him for ruining Hill Valley circa 1985 in the original film. It's just so loving ridiculous and obviously tongue-in-cheek that it's hard to not laugh at.

I believe they've both mentioned having a corporation or LLC or something in the past. I imagine mention of payroll is likely for Keith the Cop/His wife for Ant and Kenny for Opie. They both also have relatives on payroll too, iirc.

Well, they actually became the boring, real-life versions of their personas. Riffing on an Olsen Twins song is one thing, Ant equivocating on the age he started loving Apology Girl is a whole other ballgame.

According to Wikipedia, Anthony didn't appear on Opie's original show until September in 1994. So if this really is the end of the show, they just fell short of the actual 20th anniversary.

When people are making that kind of money, everything they do is handled by some kind of company. Their houses will be owned by their companies, and their cars are leased by companies. The tax savings are apparently immense.

Depending on how you do it, everything is a tax write off. If you dedicate a percentage of your house to being a "home office", that's a write off. Anthony's apartment in NYC was probably far enough away that he was able to get a tax write off for owning it, I know someone who did the same thing. He would commute about 90 minutes away from his house, so he bought a second (small) house where he worked and would stay there during the week.

It was nice to hear Ron actually laugh. Definitely skip Arquette but if you want a good 2 hours of Ron sounding like he's actually not wanting to kill himself it's a good show.

Who knows what will happen between now and October. It's nice to think Op and Jim will leave SXM at that point and join Ant, but I'm not so certain of that. They could be leaving a lot of money on the table if there is a contract offer, and frankly I don't see Opie wanting to make a regular commute out to Ant's place to do this thing, especially if the money isn't there.

I will not think differently of them no matter what choice they make, but money talks, and they have their lives to consider.

The problem with Pepper and Shelby is that Ron has to shuffle them around all the time because he doesn't know what loving Grandma Whatley can provide on a day-to-day basis. He literally did it today because Pepper booked J-Hutt and Ron didn't like the direction, so now Fez is back on booking (which will last two weeks until he inevitably screws up an cries about it for a week). Ron wants people flexible enough to move around, but then he gets upset that they're not specialists.

What a hosed up show. Somehow Fez manages to be an anchor that can't even sit in one place.

I can't see them leaving SXM unless it really doesn't work out without Ant. They make a lot of money to talk on the radio, and unless SXM really snubs them with the contract renewal I think they'll probably continue to do so.

Does Ant being fired prevent him from being a guest on the show? Hypothetically, could Ant be employed by Opie to work on the show? Not that it'd ever happen, of course.
