Nah any phones fine mate, just google the instructions and make sure you have passcode off, find my iphone off & an unencrypted backup saved to iTunes. Goodluck.

For new tweaks, use r/jailbreak's Escape Plan, a really good starter guide.

I left iTunes open the whole time *and* downloaded the IPSW separately (iTunes tries to backup everything otherwise and my hard drive doesn't have the room for my iPad)... worked fine.

Is the repo for NoAnnoyance down or am I doing something wrong? When I try to install it (with the repo.pnre.co.vu already added) nothing happens for a while and then I get a timeout error.

Y'all were right: even without a full wipe and restore, the update was enough to reset everything. Glad I read this thread, otherwise I'd be running around with the default passwords on both my devices. In case anyone else gets a WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED! message while changing their passwords and is as unfamiliar with UNIX as I am, all you need to do is type ssh-keygen -R (device's IP address here) and then perform the ssh root @ command again.

Either you have afc2add installed to access the root folder or openSSH to access the root folders. Without one of these two you are out of luck. I had neither installed when it all went down so while my installed jailbreak tweaks worked I was unable to use cydia anymore in any capacity.

Been running 6.1.2 JB on my IP5 almost since I bought it and with IOS8 coming (and pangu) I thought I'd update to 7.1.2 in case I don't like IOS8 and it was pretty easy. I was afraid to spend hour re downloading all my tweaks like Auxo, SBsettings and a lot more but IOS7 has same or better functionality out of the box so i had to install like 4 packages instead of 30+. The only reason I jailbreak now is for f.lux and some visual tweaks like bolt, things changed man.

Based on reddit posts it looks afc2add is incompatible with 7.1.x. The replacement bandied about is called "Apple File Conduit "2"" This discussion reminded me of this: http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/security/312161-public-charging-stations-could-steal-iphone-data

Last time I used it Ifunbox didn't let you run terminal commands. Maybe that has changed but if not it might not be enough to just edit a config file or whatever, you might actually have to get in there and run some commands if a repo or app hosed your jailbreak. It's good to have SSH installed.

If you read up higher, it explains that afc2add could be set up to allow root file access without needing to 'trust' a computer. AFC 2 fixes that, among other issues. AFC 2 is a lazy, still-insecure way to do some of what OpenSSH can do. But either is better than nothing in the case of a catastrophe.

Two questions: previously in this thread I remember that with one or two apps and the right settings, you can disable the power-home combo buttons and make it so if you lost your phone, and had it locked nobody could shut it down or get it back into DFU mode, I want to that. Is it Activator & _______? Also since the latest JB update last week my springprefs started restarting springboard every time I went to control center. Is there a better app that shows Wifi IP/Data IP and other useful information like springprefs? I've uninstalled some other tweaks so maybe if I clean the cache and start again, with better luck. I use it a lot when I'm on clients' networks and I want to see their network IP, quite handy. I'm on a 4S, 7.1.2 thanks. Djimi fucked around with this message at 21:22 on Jul 13, 2014 |

But there is no way to disable the power+home combo that would allow someone to boot into DFU mode.

Is there any way to modify my iPhone's behavior when its connected to my car's Bluetooth radio module? Every little ding, click, chime, swipe/unlock, and keyboard typing sound interrupts my car's stereo for about 5 seconds. Putting the physical mute switch on silent doesn't help, though I think it used to on iOS 6. If I could disable every Bluetooth profile except for Hands-Free, it would work perfectly. I don't need it to play system sounds or music or even share the address book. I'd even give up Siri in the car.

I'm hoping the would-be thief will not know about DFU mode and would also not think of taking the SIM out. At least it could buy me more time. Edit: Since the "shutdown" flipswitch toggle just calls up the shutdown dialog, the only way to shutdown (non-DFU) my phone even when it's unlocked is to log into terminal as root, locally or otherwise, and enter the "halt" command. But you could put it in Airplane Mode if it's unlocked. Rick Rickshaw fucked around with this message at 15:23 on Jul 14, 2014 |

Is there any way to make facebook like it used to be, without the stupid need for the messenger app? Don't use facebook, but my wife loves it and insists I let her install it on my iPad that she tinkers with. Bad enough she has one app on here, but gently caress it, all of a sudden her app needs a sister app too. I'm a bit OCD with wanting a fairly cleen device with only the things I want on it.

The messenger app is not mandatory by any means. You can still message people within the default app but I suppose maybe the interface is different (I ignore the nagging requests to install the messenger app)

Right, turns out she doesn't need to use the messenger app, just if it isn't installed it nags her. So I've just used a tweak to hide the icon for now. It's still annoying knowing it's on my ipad, but at least I can't see it.
