Nice photos. Opinions on the lens? Is the AF fast enough?

Good people don't rip other people's arms off.
Finally scanned some birds. I believe these were all on the Pentax 135mm+ME Super.

AF was really fast, my current telephoto is the Nikon 70-300 f/4-5.6 and I found the Tamron's AF to be a lot faster. Seemed a bit too sensitive at times when I was shooting birds in reeds and on branches. Had some issue with the AF when I was tracking a barn swallow, but those little fuckers are fast and erratic in their flight patterns. Lens wasn't too heavy, though it's big and then you'll probably be looking at a new camera bag that it can fit in. But if you're an amateur/hobby photographer who could never justify spending $5-12K on a supertelephoto it's an amazing deal and worth the price.

The more I hear of this lens the better it sounds, and it started out sounding great. Thanks for the info!

When I first got my DSLR I started doing what everyone does: "Everything must be a macro photo! Leaves, bugs, food!!"

Then I got my 35mm 1.8 prime and suddenly: "Everything must have the shallowest depth of field possible!! Even landscapes!!!"

Now I got a flash that can bounce light off the ceiling, and it suddenly makes any boring indoor snapshot look 100x better.

I pushed Portra 800 to 1600. Fairly happy with how it looks, but I think I'll be happier doing it with medium format.

As far as I remember , the current Portra 400 is based on a much newer emulsion than the older 800 line so you might actually get better results with 400 pushed to 1600. I've seen some crazy stuff shot in pushed 400 that looked unbelievably good.
