Let's play a game. I'll give you a description and you guess which Marvel character this newcomer might be. I hear they're casting for a ruggedly handsome, physically fit actor to play a character who can escape any situation, is a bit of a wild card and, though he's mostly interested in personal gain, always ends up doing the right thing.

Kinda sounds like Paladin to me.

That was Jasper Sitwell, another all-American (but generic) long-time SHIELD agent in the comics.

Oh so they're replacing Agent Ward's role on the team with someone who's exactly the same as him minus the interesting part. Can't wait.

Right, and this is just going to be him minus that by the sounds of it.

I mean, here's hoping they actually have some interesting ideas for the character, but that description does absolutely nothing to get me excited for the new season.

Oh boy here's how they are going to do the Joker on Gotham

quote:

Basically, every episode in the first season will introduce a character that might be a future Joker, each emphasising aspects of the character’s iconography, a card sharp, a flower seller, a clown, or just a guy with a very big grin.

All relatively unknown actors. All potentially a Joker. But only one of them being the actual Clown Prince Of Crime.

Get ready to be Joker-teased on a weekly basis….

As a lover of endless and baseless pan-internet speculation, I am obviously hype as gently caress for this.

I think it's going to get real old real fast. And I'm assuming it's a 13 episode order, if it's 22, ughhhh.

I assume that it will some thing like the Observer in Fringe. It will be there, but only the focus in certain episodes.

It'll just be performers in the background of a club and one week it'll be "oh he has a purple suit", next time "oh he has green hair", "oh he has an assistant with blonde hair/he laughs loudly/he has a creepy grin" and so on.

Cool idea in abstract, but every episode is overkill.

Guy A. Person
May 23, 2003

Obviously it is going to be entirely based on how they execute it. If it is seriously one guy in a purple suit or with green hair for 10 seconds out of every 20 minute episode, I don't really think it will be overkill. It depends on how much focus they actually give it.

They're clearly going for some high level Grant Morrison archetypal stuff, I'm really impressed. The series finale will probably feature Bruce Wayne apotheosizing into Batman by battling the idea of madness, the cosmic seed of pure chaos, which transcends any mere individual. A thousand voices cry out in a cacophony, and a single voice, in order with itself, overwhelms each one in turn. We realize that the Joker-potential lurks within every one of us, each week, just as the Batman-potential (Young Bruce) does.

I have high hopes for this series.

I mean like Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. Blow your season's effects budget on one or two big action sequences, let the rest be a (really well written) high school drama that involves a kid who leads a double life as Spider-Man.
