I'm a vegetarian because pretty much any meat but shrimp and some fish gently caress my body up something fierce. poo poo sucks.

Of all the lovely things Monsanto does, why do people focus on the GMO food? It's perfectly fine for you to eat, whereas they have really lovely business practices and gently caress around with farmers in developing countries. I'm a botanist and the sheer amount of spirituality and wholesomeness and purity that people focus onto plants is loving hilarious to me.

I still eat meat because as long as they're producing it anyway I might as well, but I think within a century meat farming will be phased out. Which is a good thing, IIRC it takes 50 lb of grain to produce one pound of beef so let's just distribute and eat the 50 lb of grain.

This is what bothers me about people talking about big pharma as well. Theres some really corrupt poo poo going on there and we should be more aware of what's going on but all those retarded image macros go so far into that it makes it hard to take any of it seriously.

I guess it's the mentality of Big Business = EVIL! so anything Big Business does also has to be EVIL!. Granted this is going from my observations with the anti-GMO crowd around me being either old hippies or neo-hippies all waxing nostalgiac for some pre-industrial times where everyone was living in total harmony with nature and all united under some pagan matriarchal vegan paradise that never existed.

The most efficient beef cattle require less than 10 lbs of non-human quality grain to gain a pound of meat. The least efficient are more like 15-20 pounds. Beef producers are always looking to breed more efficient animals, as it reduces the costs dramatically.

That's still ten or fifteen times as much food you put into it as you're trying to produce so I still think meat farming is a bad thing.

Isn't there a huge problem with Israel illegally using land and natural resources that others use/need around them? I know there was something on some make up about Israel taking mud from someone among other things. Still, the whole situation is a giant clusterfuck. :/ Guess that's what we get for randomly carving a country out of the middle east and hoping for the best.

Related to social media: I'm at a three day training for mental health folks in Long Island and two of my colleagues that I have known for a while do/did a lot of work with folks in Sandy Hook (because they live in Newtown). I asked them if they had ever come into contact with any conspiracy nuts about that and then had to explain to them that there are people that believe none of that happened and no one died. One of them (former military) got so angry the tears started flowing. The other one was just in dismay and the people around us couldn't believe what I was saying. I had to assure them that indeed there are people that believe that and everyone was pretty disgusted. I hope one day someone who actually believes that was a false flag says something to one of these guys, who have been dealing with trauma and grief of the survivors and first responders, in person.

That depends on how you're raising cattle. Feeding them corn is really inefficient and a problem but livestock are actually a good part of crop rotation. You let a field lie fallow for a year then you graze livestock on it. They eat the grass, poo poo all over everything, and then the poo poo makes the ground real good for growing stuff humans eat. It is true, however, that beef is extremely inefficient when compared to other meats. You can, for example, get a pound of chicken for only two pounds of feed, if memory serves, on top of eggs and stuff. Humans are omnivores so it's pretty unlikely we'll quit eating meat, especially once we finally get around to realizing that monoculture farming is stupid.

Yeah they are kind of pulling something simliar to what the US did to the Indians. Putting Settlements on all the good land and slowly forcing the them to only holding relatively making GBS threads land. Plus they control almost all other utilities and can cut them off when needed. Which they did when they invaded Gaza. Also until the end that was actually a rather decent discussion for I/P. Until Chip went all anti-semantic on their asses. I kinda knee-jerked, and I apologize. My second thought is "what does it help to exclude myself, not enough people will ever do it to make a difference", but thinking a bit more shows that that exact line of thought is precisely why not enough people will exclude themselves. It's bystander syndrome. If I'm going to be honest, I won't stop eating meat because A) I like it and B) I disagree that there is a moral imperative NOT to eat meat. ...both of which could also be used as justifications for child porn. Bad justifications, but justifications nonetheless.

Chicken breast is awesome and healthy, but by now it's just become a habit that I don't make a fuss about. My good friends all know that I'm a vegetarian but most casual acquaintances have no idea until we go out for dinner and it comes up. I don't think everyone should stop eating meat btw, if you're not actively counting macro/micronutrients it's the best way to get the necessary protein and iron in your diet. I DO very much support a local initiative called "Veggie Thursdays" that offers support and information to large organizations to offer a vegetarian alternative in their cafetarias at least once a week. Same for "Days without Meat", which replaces the traditional christian fast with 40 days of no meat. 10 million occasional vegetarians >>>>>>>>>> 10 thousand whiny straight-edge assholes. I hope this seriouspost is enough to avoid the meatchat derail
