Another happy discovery: the Mammoth's teleport shot ability plays well with gliders, so you can basically use it like afterburners to get extra airtime. Only tricky bit is you teleport in with zero velocity and instantly stall, so you have to be quick on leveling out. Not sure how well it scales; I only have a level 6 one righ tnow.

When you first get into Dredge there should be a quest from the town sheriff on the job board called "In the Wheelhouse" asking you to talk to some guy in town to get a bike. The quest it pretty standard go here, kill things, go there, escort a guy back to Dredge, go somewhere else, kill some more things. After you're done you get a recipe for the bike, it's standard but has unlimited uses. You need one each of the first three green craftable components and some crystite to actually build it.

The quest hasn't been showing up for me, so I've been doing dredge jobs to cycle the board. I should try relogging next.

Ralith posted:Wait, what? A reusable one? What quest? You get it at level 25+ in Dredge, Sertao. It comes from an ARES Job named 'In The Wheelhouse'. The Job Boards are semi-random, so just keep coming back until you see the job on the board. The job rewards you with the P-1 LGV blueprint, which you then need to manufacture yourself. This should probably be in the OP.

The big reason why people are dropping squad thumpers in the newbie areas is to get a fuckload of crafting components like shells and bones. Farming level 8 guys with a level 40 frame is pretty easy. Shell fragments and bone chips are hard to find otherwise. As for the differences in the various bikes, the P1 you get from the Dredge quest has Average for all of its stats. It has a top speed of about 53 kph and handles like a pig. The one you unlock at 40 has Good for all of its stats so it is much better. Any of the bikes you buy off the Red Bean store has Excellent for the stats and are what we are used to with the Locust and all the other R-54 variants. If I had to rank performance, I'd say the P1 is 50% as good as the bean bikes. The level 40 bike (who's name eludes me) is only 75%. In my opinion, it's well worth the money to buy one of the bean bikes. Not only do you help keep the game running but you get to have the best performing bike at level 1 without having to deal with one of the most frustrating quests. Edit: This dude's going to have TMJ. Well, after a about a dozen hours with the patch I'd say it has exactly the same Red5 sheen as every other patch in the history of the game. The base mechanics are neither especially good nor especially bad for a shooter. Anything unique about them is squashed by poor utility of the unique features. The netcode is quite poor for the damage output of enemies, and many classes have no good option for reducing non-combat downtime. On the whole, it's an ok game because of the novelty of drop-in drop-out open world coop, but the balance is atrocious in places. It's like they've got three or four content teams for each aspect of the game and none of them are working off the same design document. There's very polished quality of life features in some areas of the world and a deep abiding hatred for the player in other areas. Some Ares jobs are quick and painless, and others send you to every corner of the zone. Some resources flow quickly, and others (everything bio) are absurdly bottle-necked in comparison. Critical mechanical details on perks are hidden from the player while respecs are limited, encouraging you to get your perk selection right the first time. (Never mind the anti-competitive and meta-freezing effects limited respecs will have on PvP.) Overall, it's a deeply flawed entry in a subgenre that doesn't have any standout titles. You can't do better, but that's not really because of the quality of Firefall so much as the utter lack of choice.

Unlike with the endless beta hell, there is actually a possibility that the game can improve from here. If they spend all the man hours that were formerly dedicated to remaking everything but the basic assets every couple months on refining the current system, it could get much better. It could also get worse. Red5's actual capability for making a fun game is an unknown quantity. They sell hats for real money, so odds are they will have a chance to show what they can do at least.

Important PSA to anyone who cannot access chat or Friends - If you created your account a while ago (3 years ago in my case), it appears some kind of data migration was done since then, and Red5 hosed it up. The chatserver's authentication DB got munged during the migration and it won't have the correct username/password on file for you. To fix this, you have to change your password... but of course the website works off the same munged database and won't let you, claiming that your current password (that you are currently using to successfully log in and play) is invalid. To fix this, go to the Firefall website and try to log in. Use 'Forgot Password' change your password. If you like, you can change it back again immediately after. Now log back in to the game, all should be well. I was wondering why the Army chat was so quiet...

The old fun randomized ARES missions were rare to find for us, or too low level. And the new ARES job board missions were all go interact with object, kill 6-10 of X, wait for Aero/NPCs to shut the gently caress up, walk 600 meters and do it all over again. We also felt the progression was stupid slow even with VIP. The fact that all our frames were below level 20 but all our gear being 30-40 was just a great big gently caress you on top of that.

Played a bit today after a short break. Chosen Thumpers feel hilariously ironic, finally getting to harass them instead, the thumpers come with their own turrets and my god do they hurt, it's like a sniper rifle that pings you for 11k damage and seldom misses. Still, I love it and its nice to see the expanded area. Edit: Inimicul posted:Welp. We've just hit the army member cap. Time to start a plan B.

I've been playing a little the past couple of days, keeping out of the Army for now since there seem to be cap issues and I'm not sure how long I'll be playing for, but does the non-army community seem a little... dead? I kept poking around asking about groups for thumping and was met either with total silence or "Why would you want to group?". Its not really how I remember it from back in beta when you could ask about a group and get invites/requests for invites within seconds. I mean, I like the new changes, it makes the game much more streamlined, but I don't tend to see many people around. I am however in Copacabana, maybe it'll even out in Sertao/later on. Also, whats the difference between higher level Ability Modules and lower level? Up to Level 20, they all seem to have the same base effect (i.e. Deployed adds +1 Object to Deployment, Cooled +20% cool down)
|
# ? Jul 21, 2014 04:20 |
|
Can answer that last bit at least. Higher level modules increase the 'Power Level' of your frame while equipped, which adds roughly 1% Health/Damage/Healing, as for the effects of the modules, that is based on it's quality. The +1 Deploy Module seems, intentionally handicapped. Im sure even a Lv40 Purple wouldn't even have +2
|
# ? Jul 21, 2014 04:24 |
|
Actually, blue has +2 as well. If you wanted to make a mid level blue deployment module it may only have 9-10 power but you'll get your precious +2 without breaking the bank. Add in a blue or purple Lasting module and a hybrid blue slot that adds duration and you're in business. Since I've done that I don't feel like the Bastion is terribad anymore. As for the feeling lonely out in Copa, I completely understand. Keep in mind that Copa content can be blown through in an hour. You'll see more people when you get to Trans Hub and beyond. Things start to slow down a bit there and Trans Hub is the new hub of activity like Copa used to be. I stopped inviting passers-by into my thump groups because thumping is bugged right now. Sometimes the group members don't get rewards but you always get participation rewards if you do at least 20% of the kills/damage during the thump. Now that the squad thumpers are changed, that may alter the way random groups happen again. Like you, I remember easily getting invites during thumps way back in the day. Speaking of thumps, I checked the numbers. Stock Personal: 250 split - Iron Personal 1: 275 split - Iron and Tungsten Personal 2: 300 split - Iron, Tungsten, and Titanium Personal 3: 325 split - Iron, Tungsten, Titanium, and Uranium Stock Squad: 300 each - Iron Squad 1: 325 each - Iron, and Tungsten Squad 2: 350 each - Iron, Tungsten, and Titanium Squad 3: 375 each - Iron, Tungsten, Titanium, and Uranium

Wait, lower level thumpers can't mine higher level resources anymore?
|
# ? Jul 21, 2014 05:03 |

Don't forget that bringing a thumper to 100% gives out large bonuses. A personal 3 that you and four buddies get to 100% gives 325 resources split between you all, and another 325 resources for each of you. A squad 3 that you bring to 100% gives 750 resources for each member of the squad.

That's been one of the major reasons why running personal thumpers as a group was usually better than running smaller squad thumpers. The dynamic has changed again giving Mathhammer nerds another chance to play with their calculators to figure out a new efficiency chart. Also, I think I'm done with the sweep for now. I kicked and invited about 50 people. The rest of the names were either people I've talked to online today, saw online as I was doing it, have big boobs, or were so far down the list I figured they had to be new invites. As any good leader I made sure to send out invites to everyone I kicked with a friendly, heartfelt, canned copy/pasted message roughly explaining what happened. I'm also fairly sure I typed some peoples names wrong when sending out the invites so... Mission accomplished! I really hope someone makes an addon that shows who's been offline for months and allows for easy kicks / invites. Perhaps I should butter up Arkii or Hanachi again. I've asked LK for too much already.
