Tanks are pretty stable I think I had a tank go flying through the air off a bridge from a bomb hit, but otherwise unless you drive the thing off the side of a mountain it's pretty stable.

Also seriously why the hell do the allies refuse to fly planes, I never have anything to shoot down :(

So you haven't bought a car, have you?

Have fun going skidding out randomly while driving straight on a flat road.

I've never had that happen. Pretty sure no other goons have had that happen either.

I have seen a squad of goons take jeeps cross country to try and flank a capture point. That apparently had to entail ramping kubelwagons off of foggy hills like they were in a WW2 themed Twisted Metal spin-off. That didn't end well. Most of the kubelwagons that didn't get wrapped around a tree suddenly looming up out of the gloom ended up corkscrewing through the air at 60-80MPH before skidding across the ground while upside down for a few yards.

Edit: Also i'm not even sure why you bother to post, since you pretty obviously hate the game. Not a single one of your posts has done anything other than poo poo on it. Sometime while posting stuff that's blatantly untrue to boot. Others enjoy the game, and no amount of thread making GBS threads on your part is going to change that.

If you're talking about the car part, no, I haven't seen one randomly skid going straight. I don't think I've played with goons using tanks without it being noted that bikes are the poor man's anti-tank weapon, though, usually after a catastrophic meeting of the two.

Did anyone ever test out that idea where someone suggested lining a bunch of bikes up on a chokepoint as improvised tank traps? It sounded hilarious, provided the bikes actually stick around for a bit after you get off them.

I have rammed bikes from my 38(T) to my King Tiger

The 38 will push them out of the road, but if its two lined, may halt it completely

A King Tiger won't care, bikes will clip through the world and do strange things as it rolls over them

They sure are making it hard to play their game. When I try to find a game, I go for 'Normal' games. The only compelling thing about this game is the strategic component, which makes the battles you fight feel worthwhile (the action component is so :effort: it doesn't really warrant wanting to play it on its' own). So when I want to join one of the player initiated battles, the queue times are absolute murder. Even if I try to join the games where they need more players from the faction I'm playing, it still queues me with an intolerably long wait time. I mean, even if they need to more US players they will queue me. The only time you can get in a game directly is when your own side needs exactly one more guy.

Quality programming there

If there is a better way to join games, please let me know. This UI is horrible!

Sometimes you'll be put into a normal mission, otherwise it's a training mission. You get the same rewards/XP no matter which one you fight in. Unless you're ready to move up to medium/heavy/AT armor, the training missions have planes, light armor, recon, and motorized infantry

Why would you want to? "Training" missions affect the map the same as "normal" missions, they just don't have any big tanks so you can do something useful with your garbage light tank instead of being farmed by things you can't even damage.

Pretty sure training missions don't have any effect on the map. In fact aren't they just random matches with no influence on the strategic map?

I know that the same map that gets used for them can show up in skirmishes though. Kind of a shock for a newbie player if they think they somehow zoned into a training mission, only to find a king tiger or pershing rumbling around the corner to assault those barns in the center. Easy to mistake training missions for skirmishes that start on those as well.

Edit: I'm finding that being a pilot largely is determined by your own skill and the weather. In the case of the former, 90 percent of all pilots are complete poo poo at actually hitting targets. This makes people think planes are terrible until they run in that one guy who actually gets the system. Then all hell breaks loose since they never bothered to figure out how to counter them, since hey, planes are supposed to be poo poo, right?

In the case of the weather if the conditions are bad enough you can end up with pilots forced to make judgement calls (Note: Most pubbies are terrible at this.) over who's a friendly and enemy. See that big post I made about the factory complex slaughter for what happens when pilots with bad judgement skills decide to go hunting in the middle of a heavy fog and large air and ground battle.

Aircraft wouldn't be half as bad as they are if people actually manned the drat AA cannons though. Pretty sure planes get extremely limited respawns to compensate for the potential effect they have. Problem is half the time people ignore them, or some idiot hops in the AA cannon and tries to gun down infantry with them while someone is bombing over head.

That's what I thought as well.

Being in a training mission or not doesn't really matter if you don't care about the strategic part of the game. However, since the tactical part of the game sucks balls, the only compelling thing was influencing the strategic part. If that doesn't work, gently caress it. I'll uninstall and never look back.

Once you get to level 3 you can start influencing the map. The first three levels are basically the devs trying to force people to take a crash course in learning some of the mechanics of the game.

Some tips from playing:

Equipping the plane with HE Minengeschoss (Mine Shell) makes it only useful for strafing jeeps and infantry because of the splash damage. It does gently caress all to planes and transports. Use AP for planes/transports. Also gently caress trying to strafe a tank, even with AP you will barely do damage to the M2A2

Shooting down planes/transports gives you 25 points each. If you can get the bronze bombing badge it will allow you to carry two bombs before you need to resupply. Another trick is to use all your cannon rounds, wait for the resupply to get to 75-80% and then find targets to bomb so you will resupply quickly.

The magnetic grenades are a better anti-tank choice than sticky bombs. The mine/grenade/whateveritis will do 1000 damage, and if placed in the rear will destroy most light tanks in one explosion. The only downside is you have to get right up on the tank and plant it. It also works on the APC/Jeep/Civilian Truck and will one shot them. Grind up the ribbons by grabbing a panzerfaust to kill enemy tanks, killing enemy players with grenades, or scrape up the 150 gold to unlock them.

Pick up weapons of the same type from your dead comrades, sometimes you might get lucky and find a fully modified weapon that will give you an edge

If you can manage it, save up the 100K for the MP40. It holds 12 more rounds than the MP28, fires faster, and is more stable.

If you save up the 70K, the Kar98k is an accurate rifle. It can be fully upgraded to kill in one shot. The downside is in close quarters you're screwed.

If you kill an American that's carrying the Browning Automatic Rifle, I suggest you grab it. The same goes for the Thompson, or if you're grinding SMG assault, grab the grease gun off your foes.

gently caress the MG34/42, until they fix the recoil it's pretty much garbage, spend the money on the MP40 instead.

Panzerfausts can be found on certain points in a crate. You can also upgrade any vehicle to carry a supply of them in a crate.

Resupply if you're wounded and find a first aid box. Sometimes those 4 health bars are the difference between life and death.

Factory and Airfield maps are the best maps to play for grinding action. Most of them are either in a wide open area or inside a building for close quarters. They also run pretty quickly compared to the villages and hill skirmishes, as they can be a mess and can drag on.

Just noticed this and thought I'd clarify: I reached rank 6 I think, and did get the option to join normal battles. But because the matchmaking system is so horribly made, you'd get thrown in a queue almost every time you would join a battle (basically, you could only join immediately if the enemy team had exactly one more player than your team). The queue times were ridiculous. So the only way to get games reliably would be to use the Random matchmaking option, and then you'd end up in Training missions all the time.

I'm pretty sure the level 3+ missions use the map stuff since you occasionally get stuck in bullshit scenarios that could only come from incompetent commanders, like 3 non-motorized guards infantry attacking on the factory map against a larger force with light armor and planes.

gently caress this. I've been using the MG34 for long enough to get LMG 8 and then buy the MG42. The recoil is crazy but once you use it enough you will find yourself automatically compensating for the recoil with mouse movement. At that point you're left with an insanely powerful weapon which is able to mow down a half-dozen enemies before reloading. I strongly recommend the MGs. They're very powerful. Just don't mod them unless you want to spend more than you make with premium every match to repair/rearm.

I was in a battle like this in one of the allied mechanized tanks and we managed to lose because the axis had captured the police station and church on that one map.

Everyone was scattered to the winds and nobody wanted to defend the objectives.

With Stuarts and Hellcats and 500 units of infantry and couldn't hold against a pure infantry force.

Once you reach rank 3+ Skirmish matches are not Training, they are when two opposing units of Assault teams cross on the map, not on an objective. Read the OP fellas :D

Also, assets, and assault teams are completely determined by the campaign map and the generals. If you have only Infantry Assault Teams vs Heavy Armor, then our generals are stupid and didn't move the support to where you just got put in at. The generals map is very important.

I was having fun with this game before I started facing tanks. Running across a field for 5 minutes with my crate bazooka so I can ineffectually fire it at one of the three tanks camping a control point, dying immediately for my trouble and then repeating the process for the hour that a match lasts is what we in the business call "Not Fun". It wouldn't be so bad if you could carry more than one rocket with you, but alas;

What I've done is just buy the jeep then stick the Panzer box on the back of it. Any tank I see I drive nearby but out of sight and start tossing panzerfaust shots at it. Hitting tanks from long range is still a problem though, and if they're really good they'll have infantry support, but 95% of tanks tend not to have any kind of infantry supporting them.

That doesn't solve some really bad matches where you're up against tons of tanks, but it helps. Good air support can sometimes make a huge difference; I once saw a guy go 46/2 in a match because he was an incredibly good bomber/strafer.

Is there a way to mark people on the map? I've seen people call for it I didn't notice anything under controls.

Gamerofthegame
Oct 28, 2010

Could at least flip one or two, maybe.
Stare at something for 3-5 seconds and it'll pop up with a mark. Triangles are infantry and diamonds are any kind of vehicle. People in vehicles can't see infantry marks, only vehicle ones.

If you see a enemy tank always spot it. Just stare at it while you're going somewhere and there is a fair chance it will immediately start getting hit. It's hard to see them when they're in their camping spots.

Edit: v The Chaffe (Or however it's spelled) is the end tier tank for the American's - as in you literally have to painfully grind to the very last rank in light tank to get it. It's supposed to be a fragile light that comes with a medium's gun, which means it absolutely wrecks poo poo up in any match.

Infantry combat sucks pretty bad, I don't find any need to crouch or anything like that, just strafe in and out of trees. I pretty much only play as a tank now, and it's actually pretty great. The only thing I'd want is better queues when I'm being hit by a Panzerfaust, right now it doesn't really give me any indication.

From my experience with the game so far I have to say paratroopers more commonly carry a team to victory. Tanks are great for getting monster k/d ratios but sometimes killing fifty people while only dying once won't win you the game. I've had much better luck with my paratrooper willing my team to victory by always being at or around capture points. I've never gotten close to some of my tank k/d ratios but an MP40 in close quarters can tear it up. I'll regularly get a 3:1 k/d ratio while getting 4 or 5 captures in a match. The worst part about being a paratrooper is that your own team's fighter pilots will shoot down your paraplane even after you tell them to stop a million times.
