I had no idea if it was the players getting something wrong or whatever, I've not yet played this game. The new starter box has me quite interested though.

I've managed to scatter a grenade like 20" back into the firer. It's kinda goofy but leads to some pretty hilarious situations.

I just think it's odd that there is no max scatter based on distance to target. In Warmachine a template can only scatter up to half the distance to the target. That would prevent a model trying to drop a grenade at its own feet somehow scattering it 9" behind themselves.

Exactly. So in the active turn, if the same Myrmidon tries to throw a smoke grenade at his own feet, he's looking for a 16 (PH 13 + 3 for range) and if I roll the 19, the grenade scatters 3 x 2.5" = 7.5" ? That seems silly to me.

It's just him fumbling it when he drags it off his belt or whatever while on the run. It's 30 scale feet, which, y'know, I guess if it gets a good bounce and roll...

Is there a point in getting the rule book at this time with 3rd ed around the corner? Also, whats in the human sphere book? Paradiso is a campaign book right?

Also, making a list with ALEPH is hard when half the pts value is three guys.

Where are the stats and such? In the rule book? I prefer to be able to flip in a book when learning a new game instead of just using the list building apps.

Somebody told me that the new book is only replacing old (2nd ed) core book and that all the stuff in HS and Paradiso would still be valid.

Does CB actually plan their releases like that? Is this release supposed to includes alterations to unit point costs and stuff like that which would be in HS?

For now they're just redoing the core rulebook, as model errata are part of the update I imagine eventually they will redo the later books. On the first question I'm not sure, but it's the way they're doing this update. :)

In the official PDFs, which are pages cut from the books. The army lists are scattered through 3 books and some newly added online-only units, so if you insist on using book lists you're in for a hard time. Use the apps.

Yeah, I imagine all army list type info will be revised (points rebalanced etc) and reissued online and in the army builder programs. Which makes Human Sphere and Paradiso only half-useful in some ways, but I realise that since we are all using the digital army builders anyway it hardly matters.

So after testing out my ideas, and only losing 2 out of 3 games, I settled on an army list for this tournament. We are using ITS missions, but the ones which centre on board control and annihilation, not those which use specialists to carry out key tasks.

Let's say my Myrmidon (who has ODD and is standing in the open) is shot at by an enemy model that does not have any MSV. I use his ARO to throw a smoke grenade at his own feet. What happens? Is there a face to face roll? Does my opponent get to shoot me and then the grenade smoke happens? Does he shoot at me at -12 BS (-6 for ODD, -6 for smoke)?

Follow up question: What happens if I try to do this against an enemy shooter that does have MSV? Does it become two normal rolls rather than face to face because the smoke won't hinder the shooter?

I ran a very similar list with my Bakunin, and like most specialized lists it depends on who you're playing against. Haqqislam tend to rubbish you because cheap, impetuous, high-WIP jerks make a mockery of your camo and then the heavy-hitters light them up.

Conversely, against PanO, other Ariadna, ALEPH and Combined they tend to work a treat, the former's low WIP keeping your Camo relatively safe and the Autocannon/AP HMG more than capable of icing heavy threats. With Ariadna you just pick on the stuff you know's the power, as a bunch of line jerks with rifles can't do a huge amount.

Special Shout Out: Lists like this absolutely ruin Tohaa in my experience. Tohaa players tend to go link-crazy in my experience, and as links all have to react in the same manner, if they declare discover you can give them free bullets, and if they declare hold you just move on until you're close enough to pop out of camo and catch a bunch in delicious, delicious light flamethrowers.

e: The list in question:

Unless it's MSV3 I wouldn't worry a huge amount, as they can ignore the penalties all they want if you get the drop on them. Asura's not too bad to deal with, either - They start to drop off at 24", so if you can get eyes on her with the Autocannon from a decent distance in cover, you'll likely have the dice advantage.

What a fun list! I'd be tempted to drop Bran for something cheaper, maybe a random moderator, in order to fit another Marker into the link team and perhaps another Morlock (or two). I've only played camo heavy outside or a sectorial (where I could add in Spektrs and Intruders), but being able to keep a link team AND have all those Minelayers makes me all tingly in my nether-regions.

Edit... hmm... Needs specialists, though. Maybe a forward observer in those Zeros.

It wasn't a list played for anything but 'killy fun times' so specialists seemed moot.

Bran's mostly there to fit as much camo in as possible - The intimidation factor of putting down 10 camo markers at game start makes people pause!

My take on it is below. It lacks high strength weapons, but it should be pretty brutal all around. Specialists, smoke, lots of mobility with the link team. Looks like fun (and would give me an excuse to buy a couple more models from my FLGS, which deserves to be rewarded for carrying Infinity). Thanks for the idea!
