It really is as great as is said. He practically said, sarcastically, "This kind of decision means all state laws banning gay marriage are illegal!" So judges cite that statement, saying "Well Justice Scalia said gay marriage for everyone now".

It's honestly one of the brightest moment of the last few years. Anyone who doesn't run on spite hates Scalia (who is probably the biggest example of someone who runs on spite) and he gave all the judges a straight line to make the world a better place by tweaking his nose.

This and bringing up SCOTUS appointments are my two responses when someone says that republicans and democrats are the same so why bother to vote anyway. Obama is a disappointment, but anyone with a D after their name is automatically miles above the republican alternative to say nothing of reversing the horrible rulings from the worst court since Taney was Chief Justice.

My issue has always been that people aren't saying that "both are the same", they're saying they're not different enough on enough issues. Nobody who says that is saying they're identically bad, they're saying both are bad.

Turning that into "you say they're both the same BUT Obama has gone from being a piece of poo poo to a politically expedient piece of poo poo on gay rights, WHAT NOW LEFTISTS" misses the point. The Senate just voted 100-0 to support Israel bombing children. Sure they're not identical. They're also not as far from each other as people would like to believe.

A combination of the two, and also that Obama seemed to genuinely believe that the GOP would work with him in good faith until about a year ago.

To be fair, thinking the GOP would work with him to solve some things was pretty reasonable given the dire straights we were in at the time. That a political party would see the nation gripped by the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression and try to make it worse? That failing infrastructure would all but destroy a major city and they would cut the upkeep budget? That they would sink their own energy bill as soon as he expressed support for it?

Obama should have caught on by spring of 2009 when them going off the deep end was really apparent, but thinking they would work with him to advance their interests if nothing else, rather than going full scorched earth was a reasonable thing to think at the start.

Sup fellow Blue Texan. Anyone down here who starts bitching about Lesser-Evilism or "It's all the same" down here needs to be taken out back and beaten senseless. As the rest of the Union probably knows when they get a fresh dose "And this just in from Texas..." every week of some Republican doing stuff like posing about how they're ready to shoot children at the Mexican border, the Republican Party gives literally 0 fucks these days. It's still nothing compared to living down here (Unless maybe you live in Florida or maybe New Mexico) and dealing with that poo poo every loving day.

When the two options for my elected officials run on the platforms of "Try to make a buck off of my power but at least do my job" and "Blatantly burn and pillage everything for profit" it's a no brainer on which side to chose. I am tired of the xenophobic, violent, hateful, spiteful rhetoric and policies and am ready to listen to the Reds scream and cry foul as I lap up their delicious tears in 2016.

Also, am I a horrible person for hoping that Cruz wins the primaries in 2016? Not only would watching Perry and his glasses be crushed by a fellow Texan be hilarious, but I'm pretty sure Cruz is like Zoolander and literally can only turn hard right.

Wait, what? I'd never heard of this. Was there to be an age floor at which point the enrollment age would stop going down, or would it have essentially been the slowest possible transition to single-payer (taking 65 years to complete)?

Nah, as long as it's Hillary vs Cruz, I'd say go ahead. Cruz's brand of crazy absolute insanity is probably what it will take to get a majority Democratic house. "Generic Republican" a la Romney/McCain, Scott Walker, Jeb Bush (if Bush's name isn't still toxic), etc will get a Democratic win for President and probably the Senate, but without the House we're stuck as-is.

The only caveats are if it's Cruz vs not Hillary/Biden, which would worry me a little, and/or Cruz accidentally pulling off a win due to something completely unforeseen happening (death of [X], major war, complete economic meltdown, alien contact, pick a curve ball). That would would be really, really, unimaginably bad.

My favorite Scalia moment was that time when he argued about state's rights and the founding fathers, and then in the very next case argued the exact opposite of that because it didn't fit the narrative he wanted.

Rumsfeld submitted his resignation before the 2006 election and Bush turned him down because he didn't want it to look like he was caving in to pressure to fire Rumsfeld before the election. He fired him immediately afterwards, which was a very nice cherry on top of the parfait that was the 2006 elections.

Reaction was fairly negative to Rumsfeld's firing in the GOP. Neocons (who still imagined that they had influence) were fully in, "Rumsfeld did nothing wrong!" mode and the rank and file wondered why Bush hadn't axed him in October to alleviate public anger at his smugfaced bungling.
