I get the feeling the monster truck that pops up at a couple points will be the new hero car, but who knows. Shamefully, I've never seen the Road Warrior, and only bits and pieces of Beyond Thunderdome a while back. Suppose I should check that off my AI bucket list.

/Drive is now $4 a month. RIP DRIVE The only thing worth a poo poo on that channel is chris harris... and i suppose the factory tours at koeniggsegg and the like. The rest of the hosts are windbags (matt farrah isnt but he does most of his stuff on the smoking tire) They dont even consistently release chris harris content every month. I'll gladly pay $1 for every chris harris video, but not when they take random 2 month breaks away from making content.

It's also not available in Hungary so... guess I won't be watching any more Chris Harris any time soon.

coolskillrex remix posted:/Drive is now $4 a month. RIP DRIVE Ahahahhaha they think they can charge for it. I've tried watching people other than Chris on /DRIVE and holy jebus every single one of them is unwatchable. There were plenty of videos that looked interesting but I had to turn them off not more than a couple of minutes in. Every single one of them is so awkward and uncharismatic that it really defies explanation.

It seems like those guys actually figured it out. They just started making another show that can be naturally integrated with actually interesting product pitches and tests that pay for the placement. The show also owns so it's a win/win/win. They currently have 24 subscribers according to the YouTube API, so we'll see how long it lasts. From what I understand though, if this fails then that's it for drive. http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/driveplus?alt=json

I don't think that's accurate, I was waiting for a second video before starting the trial and noticed there was one now, so I did and the number didn't change. It was at 23 before, still there now. The same data for Sesame Street's long-standing subscription channel (http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/sesamestreetepisodes?alt=json) shows 0, so either that doesn't tell us what we're looking for or literally no one subscribes to paid Youtube channels. Personally I'm not against the idea of paying for content, Drive has put out a lot of great stuff, but if I'm paying I will be expecting a certain quality bar to be hit repeatedly where they've previously been sort of up and down. I'm setting the bar roughly around the same area as Farah's recent "movie". $5 for 90 minutes of entertainment was a fine deal I think. Series content is of course different because a lot of it is doing the same thing in different places with different vehicles, but if I get 2-4 hours of stuff I really liked for $4 a month I can't really complain.

I was going to preorder until I saw that if you preorder they'll charge the full price immediately with no guaranteed delivery date. I read the Terms of Sale and Tilt(the crowdfunding site) basically says "If the merchant fails to deliver, don't call us." I'll risk $40 or $50 on kickstarters but $300? Nope. Good luck reversing that CC charge a year from now when they fail to deliver.

I don't understand why they're loving this up so bad. Youtube is booming and cable is dying because people don't want to pay monthly subscriptions for channels. Speaking of which, they have a new video up, it's 4 minutes on the free channel, the last minute of which is an ad for driveplus. Of course, a whole bunch of comments are links to for the full video. This business model is going to sink them. edit: for countries like germany and new zealand who couldn't pay for and watch drive+ even if they wanted to, they're probably going to sell that garbarge on DVD. talk about taking 10 steps backwards. I'm in Hungary right now, it's not available and even if it was I don't have a card with which to pay. You know, if they just used Patreon like a normal YouTube beggar then this wouldn't really be an issue. Those of us who cannot pay for the content for whatever reason would be more than subsidised by those that are willing to pay extra every month. If it works for random YouTubers then why not for Drive? For example the relatively niche Red Letter Media has about 1/10th of the subscribers but makes more than $8000 per month, surely a channel with more than a million subscribers could expect to receive a lot more than that.

I know this is making the rounds but that whole drive is a totally reasonable way to deal with a number of problems from carbon buildup to a stuck lifter. poo poo, there was a Volvo TSB for mid-90s 960s to deal with carbon buildup on valves that was literally "Put the trans in Low and drive down the freeway for 20 minutes".

the "Driveplus" numbers are based off the user account "driveplus" which is a different account. the /Drive+ channel user name is actually UCfbPZ1cTgBH2djzLLCPTmXg because it's an actual channel. look at the url on their page. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfbPZ1cTgBH2djzLLCPTmXg/videos applying that to the stats thing, comes up with "subscriberCount":"0","videoWatchCount":0,"viewCount":"0","totalUploadViews":"47997"} The totaluploadviews matches the number on their profile page, but doesn't show any subscribers. Their most popular video only has 10,629 views, to the 235,380 views on the shorter video on their free channel, meaning at most 10,629 people have taken them up on the free preview out of the 235,380 people who know about it. They can't even get 5% of the audience to use the free preview. edit: http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/UCfbPZ1cTgBH2djzLLCPTmXg?alt=json Look at "title" and "name", it is the drive+ stats. It might update, or it might only show subscribers who have been charged, meaning we won't know real numbers for another 10 days since everybody who subscribed is still in the free preview period.
