Yeah Pugs have this amazingly wide range of facial expressions that all seem to evolve from the same look of bewilderment and stupefaction.

I worry about pugs; it doesn't seem like it's healthy to breed dogs that look like that. But I feel that way about a lot of dog breeds.

Dachshunds make it high on the list too. When I worked as a vet assistant those two were known as the "guaranteed problems" breeds. Dachshunds are especially expensive as they break their backs doing little more than jumping off one or two stairs. I was even explicitly told never to squeeze a pug's head too tight as their skulls are so malformed their eyes pose a serious risk of popping out with too much pressure.

prefect posted:I worry about pugs; it doesn't seem like it's healthy to breed dogs that look like that. The weird dumb folds on a pugs face are prone to developing infections, and some pugs eyes pop out when they so much as sneeze. It's okay though, they're cute

^ That is on the far end of the scale, but yes Pugs, and bulldogs, and so on have been INTENTIONALLY bred to be hosed up mutants. Any pure bred dog will have problems. Golden Labs had big problems with their hips. If you want a healthy dog, get a mutt.

Pugs are also the ones that, due to the malformation of their head, can't properly breathe, right? That cute wheeze? That's your pug struggling to breathe.

Yeah seriously get a mongrel if you want to get a dog. Mine was a mix of just about everything and she lived until she was 21.

If you must get a breed, get a breed that came about relatively naturally and has less health problems rather than one that happened by making dogs inbreed until they imploded. So, uh... anyone got a funny panel?
|
# ? Jul 31, 2014 13:13 |

Shelter mutts and then if not a mutt of some sort, a working breed. Don't get working breeds if you aren't going to give it a lot of space and stimulation though, or it'll go crazy.

You want what Deadpool wants. Deadpool 18 The 'Pool is classy in Deadpool 6 and watches over you while you sleep in Deadpool 5 'Cause he knows how to treat a lady. Deadpool 10 Dee dee dee 'D' is for lots of things. Dr. Destiny is kind of embarrassed that Deadpool is one of the things it's for. Sandman 6
