Lol I actually didn't remember I have a loving degree now until I read Wafflehound's post again. I guess that's a good indication of how absolutely worthless a Bachelor's is in Finland.

Anyway synths are really cool and I wish you could get a degree in them instead.

Just kidding. Seriously, I have not messed with music for a while and I thought this would be a fun and cheap way to get started with analog synth. I has been looking at a x0xb0x box and watching documentaries on the TB-303, but all the options seemed too expensive. I have a habit of ditching hobbies, I didn't want to go out and buy something really expensive only to let it gather dust. So I got the Bass. It isn't exactly a 303 but it's neat for the money. I considered the Keys but this one seemed simpler, and learning this one should make learning the others easier.

Is there a consensus on the Volca series among you guys?

All three are awesome, with the Bass and Keys being really great and the Beats being good but having probably the worst snare on any drum machine in history, but that issue can be fixed with a soldering iron.

Cool! The track works fine without filters, for what it's worth :)

DosBox doesn't do MMX, I found out shortly after that post. I've set up a Dos machine on VirtualBox, but I've got to choose between stuttering or sample preview/envelopes not visually updating, which annoys the crap out of me. 20 years on and I can't emulate a Prentium 166 MMX 100% in software, what the gently caress. Plus exchanging files with the system is a hassle.

Well, back to SchismTracker's rough approximation.

Anyway, you had some good poo poo on there, you should revisit them some day.

I don't have a degree because I dropped out of college to play with synths.

What do you need a music degree for if all you're ever gonna do is just pushing the instant sick dubstep wubz button anyway???

Edit: my degree is in Germanic Philology. This is useful and relevant when playing synths because

I have coded programs in far too many languages to count. Such programs are frequently audio-related, but it's really not at all cool.

haha I've said that I did so I'm gonna show the goods: https://soundcloud.com/scatterfold/sets/davoren-arc. Three tracks I've done in the last few weeks, all with the same kit. Very Opal Tapes-y I think; so minimal, warm house if that's your thing.

Machinedrum UW+; Blofeld; Wavestation; MC-202; TR-606 and Reaktor. Lots (too much? no) sidechain compression and a lot of tape compression too. It's a bit of a departure in terms of my style, but the one thing I've always used are found sounds and recordings of things irl so they're here too. And radio static. And porn.

Dunno waffle, though I am probably only working halfish shifts next week. I'll be broke but will have late afternoon/evenings free.

The sidechaining sounds great on the first two tracks, but seems a bit too extreme on the third one, at least for my taste!

It's the least favourite of mine right now fwiw; it was also blasted out in the space of one evening. It definitely needs a revisit; some little 'things' to break it up a bit and maybe toning the seasick compression down a bit.
