Fingepori - I'd like to take a small beer - I'm sorry, you're too small -n is the case suffix for both accusative (object) and genitive (possessive). In English you have to append "one" or "person" if you want to use an adjective as a noun ("a small one/person") but in Finnish that's unnecessary. Small and little are the same thing (pieni) in Finnish. It's fine to say you'd want to "take" a beer when you're ordering one. About that last thing, I realized it's another example of favoring passive mood and making statements of desire instead of directly asking for something. Polite Finnish is funny. Not that that example was in passive. Fok_It tiistai fucked around with this message at 22:40 on Jul 31, 2014 |

He totally did, Doyle just didn't say "Holmes was wearing a deerstalker, you know, the exact sort of hat you'd wear out to the country. It's very important that you are aware that it's a deerstalker and not a less common sort of hat."
