Cunningham Charms, trying to exile the Ooze. Ichikawa responds with Golgari Charm to give everything -1/-1, Selesnya Charm fizzles, he then pumps the Ooze to 5/5 again, beating the Wurm token.

And taking down a Voice Token along with it.

Too bad Ichikawa is losing this game.

Not that anyone is watching SGC over the pro tour, but you all just missed a particularly massive punt. BUG delver has a Depths player essentially dead on board with 2 4/5 Goyfs, an active Deathrite Shaman and a Liliana. The Depths player has an untapped Depths and Thespian's Stage in play and is on 10 life. Rather than doing the sensible thing and swinging with the team and then murdering the Marit Lage token with Liliana post combat, for some reason he decides the best line of play is to drop a Delver in his hand and plus the Liliana. After doing this he stops, thinks for a second and then scoops.

Wouldn't it have been cool if at some point subsequently they'd printed a Flash creature with "whenever an opponent would draw a card, they draw seven cards instead"?

"end step, Rev for 7"
"Cast Sphinxaids in response, you deck yourself. Game three?"

(edit: given when Skylasher was printed, I assume we'll see this card next spring.)
(edit2: I see the templating problem here, but assume a fixed version for humor purposes.)

Undoubtedly it's a case of the sum of the parts of the UW deck, but from what I've been seeing, Planar Cleansing is a major culprit as well. It's a fair card on paper but in the context of a deck that can stabilize/draw fistfuls of cards with Rev and recycle its graveyard ad nauseam, it's dumb for the deck to also have a faceroll sweeper to pretty much anything that can oppose it on the table.

Is that the case for the prelims, too? If so, why? It feels weird to change the rules only at this level. It isn't as though timers get turned off in Street Fighter for EVO.

That being said, bringing the durdleiest deck possible seems like a smart call given those circumstances.

Floch has ways to kill Elspeth. At least this way we can have an elblem that he can't remove.

But yeah, I think Sphinx's Revelation is good, but it's only enabled because of Elixir and Planar Cleansing.

And the other Sphinx's Revelations it draws. And the piles of degenerate combos like Quicken/sweeper it assembles with ease.

It's going to be funny when these people find they're not as good at Magic as they thought when it cycles out.

If he had waited, he would have been in the same situation, except without the emblem on the table. He knew that Floch had a Sphinx's Rev in hand, and could draw a ton of cards to find a Planar Cleansing.

Sphinx's Revelation is a card that isn't overpowered, but Wizards still should not have printed. It just makes the game longer and longer.

The ways that Floch removes Elspeth also clear out the board of creatures. The emblem is plenty useless without dudes.

It's completely moot though, Owen was never climbing out of that hole.

Only stage in PT where time limits are off is the top 8. Floch had to play within the 55 minute time limits during the Swiss rounds as anyone alse.

I think that was sweet magic and I'll root for the UW Control over pile of burn or three colour goodstuff decks any day of the week. Do like Owen's (and Huey's) deck too though a fair bit, a lot more than either on the second semi.

Yes but the same way if he gets an Emblem, its irrelevant because Floch is going to Rev and find a counter for the following Elspeth/any threat and the Emblem will be pretty useless.

It's completely moot though, Owen was never climbing out of that hole.

I agree in general but you can't really say that in the context of the Pro Tour. These guys are the best in the world at what they do, and it's not like Owen couldn't have played U/W if it was such a win button. It just happened to be a bad matchup/match for him.
