I was wondering if anyone had done a genderbent Comedian + Silk Spectre couple so I went GISing and this popped up ... I also heard about but didn't find photos of a mother & son who went to a convention dressed as Silk Spectre and the Comedian, which is hosed up in a different way. And to answer my initial question, there's a SHITLOAD of genderbent Comedians out there (Comediennes?) and most of the other Watchmen characters as well: Oh Rorscach-san, you're so kawaii!! But out of all the genderswapped Watchmen groups I saw I couldn't find even a single dude who'd been prepared to dress up as a male Silk Spectre. I'm disappointed but I can't say I'm at all surprised. Oh hey, I also found a Rorschach with meat cleaver doggie:

Was a pain to carry around on my back, but we got some sweet shots." Are the people filming those montages officially with the convention staff, or are they literally just random convention attendees that are acting like they have authority to do that? Or does the convention only hire one crew to do it, but there's always a few "unofficial" ones? I'd imagine that if a random crew tried to setup shop like this, they'd get shut down pretty quickly by security. Vietnamwees has a new favorite as of 09:12 on Aug 2, 2014 |

As far as I know, anything done for commercial purposes has to get a permit through CCI, but I don't think they have an "official" crew that really does much other than basic setups for archival purposes. If they are blocking off a sizable portion of space on the floor without officers telling them to leave, they may have paid CCI for a filming permit. The majority of these people are freelance photographers with a blog or website. Sometimes they have Press badges, but no legitimate press is going to walk around with that kind of setup or dickery, and they certainly wouldn't be spending the whole day doing it. A thing in photography is that there are a lot of people with a lot of equipment that like to flaunt how much equipment and power they have while not actually having any relevance whatsoever. Basically, they get away with it because no one bothers telling them "no" aside from maybe a fire marshal if they are really blocking things up too much.

I'd imagine that if a random crew tried to setup shop like this, they'd get shut down pretty quickly by security. They're random convention attendees for the most part. Occasionally one will get a press pass and is required to sign a waiver that they won't charge for any shots they do, since that defeats the purpose of a press pass. Depending on the Convention, they'll either be taking up floor space with their stuff and acting all high-and-mighty, or if there's good outdoor scenery, they'll wind up out there most of the time. Example: ColossalCon is at a Waterpark Resort, and there's a lot of outdoor things to do. Pools, Zip Lines, safari/petting zoo, and such. Most of the stuff there winds up happening outdoors. Although I almost punched a photographer out when he came into the hot tub with all of his gear and two girls just because he wanted to get shots of them under the waterfall. Shoved us all aside so we weren't blocking his pictures.

Between that and the "indie documentarian" that managed to not get banned from one con I used to go to because his crew's victim was from out of state and didn't want to press charges because she'd have to come back for court, I can't even think ill of cons that crack down on amateur "media producers". Blocking hallways for impromptu "shoots", harassing cosplayers, and generally making asses of themselves - and of course they whine that they're not the ones causing problems when the hammer finally comes down - if the hammer ever loving comes down, which is why I don't go back to the con I mentioned before (too many stories about attendees who should be banned from the premises being allowed to return, even over the objections of state police).

Tollymain posted:How the hell do you gently caress up that hard? Compound loving, mostly. First, have a group you're affiliated with be counted as staff, but only give them enough staff badges for half the group, making the rest use volunteer wristbands that don't get them in the door before the con opens. Second, repeatedly take space away from that group while they're doing costume contest pre-judging, making the contest run even later than it was already going to be because the judges won't move things along at a reasonable pace. Then provide them no assistance with changing the room over for the dance despite promising exactly that, making the dance start over an hour late. On top of that, don't hold the convention center to the contract that says that their personnel are to remain on property until the convention closes each night, leaving the dance with no water, and a lot of angry dancers. Tell them up front that they have authority to eject people from the convention, then override every single one of those ejections even when they're caused by attendees breaking the law on convention property and being escorted out by cops. Use all of that when someone gets tackled on the dancefloor to say that "it's a tense situation, and people were on edge, and maybe the staffer was overzealous in ejecting the girl who attacked her", while her mouthy friend who wasn't even there tries to claim that you can't legally tell people they can't swing glowsticks on metal chains (the same metal chains the ejected girl claims were cut with scissors). Then you decide that since it's almost time for the convention to close for the night, you don't want to deal with it anymore and cave in because you're too afraid of bad press about your con, and most people who were there and saw poo poo go down (like the previous year's sexual assault by the "indie" guy and his crew) don't feel like they can talk about it without hiding behind anonymity and a whole lot of abstraction. Fake edit: holy gently caress . Actual edit: Oh, and everything before someone getting tackled on the dancefloor? Happened each of the three years I worked that con.
