Speaking of Shogun 2, it's available for OSX as of today. http://www.feralinteractive.com/en/news/432/ The port is by the same people that did the OSX versions of Empire and Napoleon. If you've already bought the PC version of Shogun 2 it'll already be in your OSX Steam Library. Hooray!

With Napoleon, I'm finding it a little strange that I have to turn down the graphical settings to a point where it looks worse than Medieval 2 for some reason. Is the engine just that much more of a drag on resources? It's perfectly playable, its just that all the bits and widgets have to be turned off so everything looks really flat and lifeless. On the other hand I played Medieval 2 under bootcamp, whereas I'm running the Feral port of Napoleon, so there might be optimization issues. paranoid randroid fucked around with this message at 11:24 on Aug 3, 2014 |

The battle AI in Napoleon is impressing me, in that it is not completely coneheaded, but is it just me or does the enemy always come to you no matter what? One unit of militia will slog across the map into my line infantry just the same as a full stack of Prussians. The naval AI actually gave me a fairly unpleasant shock when they formed a proper line and worked to hold the weather gauge.

That's probably what's happening.

Ah, that would explain it. I make a point of rolling heavy with artillery, if only because having just one or two cannon units feels like a waste of time. e. my last TW game was M2 so imagine how tickled I was the first time the AI cavalry flanked my army and poached my artillery. paranoid randroid fucked around with this message at 23:07 on Aug 3, 2014 |

I'm very much enjoying Imperial Splendour so far, so thanks for the recommendation. The way they've balanced the game makes early-game combat more a series of careful battles to keep your small yet expensive force alive, at least in my experience. The uniforms look fantastic; I especially love the early British maroon.

Any recommendations for the lesser-known M2 mods? I've played Stainless Steel, Broken Crescent, etc. many times, but there are dozens of less popular mods on twcenter. I downloaded The Last Kingdom and Wrath of the Norsemen, but I haven't tried them yet. Are there any hidden gems in here? http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?556-Kingdoms-Hosted-Modifications

The LOTR one is good for quick battles since you can gently caress around with trolls, oliphaunts, orcs, and elves and poo poo. The campaign had amazing potential but fell victim to the spergy wishes of hardcore players for 600 turn games. You do not even get your better units until about 200 turns in. Last kingdom was fun thought I never played it more then a few hours.

I downloaded The Last Kingdom and Wrath of the Norsemen, but I haven't tried them yet. Hyrule: Total War is absolutely batshit insane in its concept and what it's achieved. It's pretty much an entire game (That's been mistaken as an official one due to the quality of the mod.) to itself at this point. The mod's like eleven to twelve gigs of completely unique content with new mechanics to each faction, a set of campaign missions with a story built in, a fully working and unique free form mode, and set pieces for each battleground. Hell, every race, nation, and group from every game is represented as a playable faction in the game too. The only downside is it's huge size to actually get downloaded. It's so big that it's easier to just torrent it or split the download up into parts, which I think the mod maker had to do at one point to make it easier for people to get. And that was about a year ago when I last played, before he was about to add in recreations of every city, dungeon, and capital from every game for battles. If nothing else, you should check out the soundtrack. It's loving awesome and should be given a listen to see what happens when you blend Medieval's style of battle music with Zelda. The result is . Here's a few of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqHgmheTBD8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z-FhR37Lxo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQwa6OYlI5k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIXh6RilFGc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ungkYsmigJs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe-9dFK_JNk Edit: And apparently the mod creator has managed to get actual working naval battles into Medieval 2. This is coming/came with the first of three expansion packs. The first of which includes eight more playable races on top of the poo poo-ton that are already there. He even produced a trailer to showcase it. Said trailer involves naval combat, flight capable units, and a motherfucking castle sized golem rising out of the ocean to backstroke through a fleet of boats. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3L3zEk5ccY Archonex fucked around with this message at 22:39 on Aug 4, 2014 |

Sorry if this question has been asked. I'm playing a game of Rome Total War II as the Seleucids with no mods. I just finished the Civil War and have destroyed all of the rebel armies/navies. Unfortunately, when I got the message that I had defeated the faction, I never got a prompt to choose to rule as an Empire or a Republic. Is this a bug or does this just happen to factions that have no history of democracy?

More than likely I'll completely forget to use them, in favor of sniping dudes with Jaegers and the like. Skirmishers are so much fun. Incidentally, I'm liking how artillery rewards you for thinking about positioning a little bit. I'm finding that I deploy my army based on where good lines of sight for my cannons are located. Now if only the AI didn't do poo poo like stick its huge scary 18 pounders on the blind side of a loving hill. paranoid randroid fucked around with this message at 04:01 on Aug 5, 2014 |

Keep them slightly back but to the right of your main attacking line and wheel them in to fire a volley then grenade (Hah!) or fix bayonets and charge them right into the flank or rear of the enemy. They are shock troops, use them like you would with heavy cavalry. Back and side attacks to a pinned down unit for victory.
