Got absolutely ruined in my first game in months today - played 100 points, I had Corran Horn, Ten Numb w/ Fire Control System, and Kyle Katarn w/ Blaster Turret, Recon Specialist and Moldy Crow. My Imp opponent (and girlfriend) ran rings around me with Carnor Jax, Soontir Fel, Gamma Squadron Bomber and Dark Curse, with a bunch of great upgrades. She focused down my Moldy Crow before it could really hand out the Focus Action goodies, and the B- and E-Wings weren't upgraded enough to be all that effective. ... I have no idea how to build a good 100 point list without relying on Chewie-Falcon + Wedge or Biggs. :(

This is probably why we see so many of this type of list. Some players are pretty used to relying on a super-combo ship or something to win.

I just want my Victory, an Immobilizer 418, Nebulon B2, maybe an Escort Carrier or Lancer Class, and what the hell, some of the freighters from Tie Fighter.

Then I'll be happy

You need an interdictor cruiser or else the rebel scum will escape!

It would also be horrible and wonderful if they sold three or more different looking calamari cruisers all with identical stats.

Also your own katana fleet of dreadnoughts.

The Immobilizer 418 is equipped with four gravity well projectors. It's a cruiser, about 900 meters long. It's not as big as the Imperial II conversion, nor as well armed or armored, but it's relatively cheap and with support does the job just as well.

First rule of the HWK is you have to plan to lose it. The Moldy Crow title in particular is outrageously expensive and should never be taken under any circumstance. Kyle Katarn has a pretty bad pilot skill because a HWK preferably wants to generate and use 2 focus every turn by itself. Your list splurged a ton of points on high-end pilots, you could've easily shaved points off the B and the HWK to include a 4th ship or atleast properly kit out your B and E.

C-3PO is, depending on who you ask, either essential to flying a falcon or just pretty good.

The big plastic spaceship is kinda cool too.

With Armada coming out early 2015 I don't imagine they'll have product at GenCon. Maybe display pieces like they had of the Rebel Transport and Corvette last year, but that's likely it at best.

I'm excited even just for that, though. :v:

Argh, I'm on the window-ledge about to plunge into this game.

Is a second core set worth it? It seems like extra templates and tokens aren't so important, and extra dice can be had for pretty cheap. Getting three ships at a small discount is good, but they will have all duplicate cards.

Am I better off just buying an expansion or two, to get more variety? Do the stand-alone X-Wing and TIE expansions come with cards that are unique from the core set?

The Shame Boy
Jan 27, 2014

Dead weight, just like this post.

It's worth getting a second set so you have 2 X-Wings and 4 TIE Fighters overall, plus a second set of everything for the other player is good so you don't have to keep sharing.

The X-Wing and TIE Fighter expansions do come with different cards and i'd highly reccommend you get both since you get some pretty great pilots out of both sets.

Having duplicate cards is not a bad thing, and if you ever feel like it is just give the extras you'll never use to your buddy or something.

Or keep them, because steamy Rebel on Rebel action can be just the thing to get your blood pumping late at night.

WorldIndustries
Dec 21, 2004

I bought two core sets first, but since I don't play Tie swarm (yet) I only really use the extra dice.

I was going to say that the X-Wing and Tie expansions are must-buys, but I don't know if that's true right off the bat. They are awesome because you get Wedge and Howlrunner, but it might be more fun to buy different ships for variety.

These are the full card lists from every expansion: http://www.afewmaneuvers.com/topic/573-full-card-list-by-expansion/
I also like to mess around with this squad builder: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build
It shows you which expansions the various pilots and upgrades come from.

Less use it of Tycho, because in order to mount something that gives you an "Action:" action, you won't be able to use PTL. That said, either Daredevil (hard 1 boost? gently caress yes), or Expert Handling (barrel rolling A-wings) will synergize with it nicely.
