Fighting Dracula as level 1 Albus in Order of Ecclesia for some videos that I'm making, and man he will not go down. He has 9999 health, and well... Look at those sick damage numbers. That's 30 damage for optical shot, 12 damage for max shot, and 2 (yes, 2) damage for a regular pistol shot. That comes to at least 334 hits before he dies. His first phase usually takes about 4-5 minutes so I'm thinking it will actually be around a 9 minute fight when I finally beat him. Albus mode is really easy for most of the game, even on level 1 hard mode. Teleporting everywhere got me to Dracula with about an hour and fifteen minutes on the clock. Then the game throws what I think is the hardest thing in a Castlevania game at you.

I seem to remember Albus' fire spin kick move being really effective against Dracula, because it passes right through his hitbox and blocks his projectiles.

There, finally beat Julius Mode in Dawn of Sorrow. I felt like I had suddenly gotten terrible at Castlevania (haha, I've always been terrible at Castlevania) as the second form of Soma kept kicking my rear end. I was trying to run under him when he jumped, but I wasn't fast enough to clear the larva things. I could run back from them, but then he'd get me in a corner and I'd die. So finally I stopped being stupid, beat him up with Alucard for a bit and then batty flew over him before he could corner me. Wasn't as hard as Death was that way. Or Abaddon, gently caress that guy to hell.

What's with all the random one-off ranged attack items in SotN? They mostly seem kind of crap.

You can get an item after beating the game that lets you use an infinite amount of "use" items that makes them totally broken later on. They'd probably have more utility if the game wasn't balls easy as they're fun to throw around in gimmicky runs, but I don't think when I was playing the game new that I ever used them.

If you ever read the design doc for SotN(I remember someone leaked it somewhere) or read any interviews concerning it, SotN was a game that was more or less personal exercises in game design. After they did a few cool things they decided to actually go ahead and try making a game out of it. That's why there's so much bizarre weird poo poo in it. Sitting down in the tower and having a chance of getting stabbed or rewarded. Only being able to eat peanuts by tossing them and having them land on your head. Finding the AlucarT weapons, realizing they're poo poo then really noticing that T instead of a D. An item that increased your height by one pixel and so on.

Didn't Konami recently lower the base price a month or two ago, or was that only for the console versions? I didn't even pay that much when it came out.

Man. Lords of Shadow 2 is kind of bad. Like, the combat from the first game was okay it just needed a bit of refining, make air combos so they were actually useful and get rid of the magic recharge system that punishes players for doing badly but they've kept all that and added in a bunch of new annoying rubbish like the virtually no hit stuns crap from God of War and made it easier to see unblock-able hits but now they come out super fast with only a fraction of a second to dodge. Mastery is crap too because it encourages you to use moves to raise the mastery rather than because they're useful. And the blade and claws have so many moves to master but you probably never will because using them is limited by your magic so you just default to the whip all the time. I know most people figured this out like months ago but it was £10 in a PSN sale recently.

It's really a pity how bad that game was. The first one was a passable action brawler with a lot of fun, campy flavor and pretty level designs. People seem to think LOS2 one is just bad, though.

There are a number of Castlevania games that are worse than LoS 2.

It's the worst type of stealth as well where there's only one solution the game wants you figure out. Though it did amuse me the the first game had Kojima Productions name attached and the second didn't, considering the stealth and interminable boring cutscenes.

The most hilarious and infuriating part about LoS2 is that the lead designer or whoever got offended that people thought his game was bad, and blamed it on them.

I could understand the stealth sections before Drac eats the family or before you get the dragon gently caress you attack, after that though it's dumb and only there for padding.

The least they could have done is made it like the guys would SOUND THE ALARM OH NO if they found you, not blow you up or whatever. Maybe add in some "guys this is not good I hear we got one a' them Draculers sneakin' around here watch out" passive dialogue. Anything, really.

I think the best thing they could have done, if they insisted on having those segments, is just making failure start a fight sequence. Maybe a hard fight sequence but one you can win. Anyone who is like "gently caress this poo poo" can fight their way through and anyone who actually likes the stealth can sneak through. It also hurts that there's absolutely no payoff for it. Even after you're fighting god-like beings you still have to hide from Red Guys. Edit: I think my favorite lovely stealth part is the 'boss' one. Where you have to stealth through it and then you kick his rear end in one-on-one combat not five minutes later so it makes no sense you had to stealth through it in the first place. Satan < Dracula < Red/Grenade Launcher guards. Lords of Shadow 1 wasn't BAD but I didn't think it was particularly good. MoF and 2 are such garbage it makes me mad that Konami decided that they'd be a better use of money and the Castlevania IP then giving IGA a proper budget. HD was good and a sequel could've ironed out some of the flaws and Order of Ecclesia is the best game in the series.

Honestly they could have shaved out all the modern environments and had a great (though relatively short) game. Every problem I have with LoS2 comes from that side of the game. Like, I even sort of liked the stealth segment with the lord of the wood guy (even if the pretense of getting into that segment is INCREDIBLY stupid), but the modern grenade soldiers were just dumb as poo poo.

For a while there when the game was in development I could swear I heard one of the devs talking like they were trying to make a 3D Metroidvania-type game, or at least put some of those elements into LOS2. That would have been cool, has there ever been a Castlevania that actually pulled off that concept?
