Anyone got any hot tipzzz for configuring my Driving Force GT to work with Nascar Racing 2003? The game detects everything fine but I can't seem to find the right settings to get proper 1:1 rotation.

In case you thought things were getting too serious.

Turns into a drift monster when you want it to, as well, but I wanted to actually complete a lap first. :haw: (skip to here for fun)

This FB page has been pretty useful for keeping track of mod releases that don't get posted on the official forum or RD (conversions or just people who can't be bothered), I'm really enjoying Shomaru pass, transfagarasan, pike's peak, the drift tuned pickup, and the escort mk 2.

Also while not racing, but still a car sim: I've been holding out on Spintires until I could get it half off. Turns out you can get a steam key from GMG for $16 if you use the voucher Z4364W-7MR5WA-N5BCOO ontop of the current sale.

Edit: The Escort Mk2 and Joux Plane were made for eachother.

Ah crap. Yesterday I thought to myself "Assetto Corsa looks nice, but I'll wait and see how it stacks up to Project Cars." To buy or not to buy. I've only played Race07 a bit and the racing sim I've played the most is iRacing but I can't play that so much anymore since the cars are now getting too hard to handle with a 360 controller.

I went for iRacing mostly because I like driving against real people where incidents have consequences, since I kept getting rammed off the track in Race07. AC is pretty cheap now though and it has modding. (Does pCars have modding?) drat it, it is as if they could read my mind and put it on sale just as I decided to wait.

Edit:

Bought it! :v:

If by stacking up you mean graphics, don't expect things to change. As far as PCARS modding goes, SMS was pretty schizo about it, arguing both for and against it, without saying anything really. Given where the core of SMS really started out from (modding a goddamn game), it's a drat shame.

pCARS didn't start out with modding a game, it start out with them making Need for Speed Shift and then turning it into a more serious sim. I haven't seen any mods for it though. Assetto Corsa has lots of mods and is worth getting into. The stock tracks are kind of crap. Crap in that they are boring tracks not that the quality is bad.

I meant overall, graphics while nice, aren't that important to me as long as the driving is fun. Haven't played a lot of AC just yet since I just got it but it is nice and the modding is great. But for some reason downloaded cars don't show up in the menus but tracks do. So I'm probably doing something wrong.

Edit:

Oops, never mind it works now.

Project cars is using an updated version of the engine from the Shift games and there were already ripped models from the alpha showing up in mods for rFactor or GTA or something, so it might not be too difficult to mod. I'm assuming they would have said something by now if official modding tools were coming out though.

I'm talking about the core staff of SMS and how they got started in the games business ages before NFS Shift. They got their careers started by modding GTL or whatever it was, and now they're rather opposed to even allow it in PCARS.

Well, to be fair, making the game mod friendly takes a lot of time and effort. I've only had Assetto Corsa for a few hours but most of that time I have been loving around with custom cars and levels. Modding adds an immense value to the game so I really hope they reconsider, but again, if their engine/game isn't made with modding in mind from the ground up, it can be really hard to implement.

Sometimes it can also be an issue of licensing. They might be using technology created by somebody else and in order to give out mod tools they have to get permission.

They are using the Madness Engine which appears to be inhouse (since they are Slightly Mad Studios). Though there could have been some deal with EA when they made Shift and Shift 2 that they couldn't release mod tools for the engine or something. Was there a Shift modding scene?

People made adjustments to grip levels and FFB mods, as well as lots of car imports (including the Forza series actually) but I never saw any new tracks or any significant physics modifications.

The team behind pCars basically said that while they weren't opposed to mods, they'd rather focus on delivering additional content themselves in the form of DLC than focus on delivering mod tools (which requires a significant amount of effort to be fair). They were kind of cagey about it too, as is often the case when it's a overwhelmingly unpopular issue that will make them more money.

Click to understand my bad faith posting.
So I've figured out that a gamepad is actually pretty decent in AC as long as you're only driving the cars that have wheels that only rotate one full turn. So, basically only the high-end racers. Slap an FPS pro on that thumbstick and you're good to go. Oh yeah, just forget ever going through chicanes fast or properly.

Got a video here of the most bizarrely good newbie racing I've seen. A good number of bumps and runoffs, but mostly due to lack of experience and not straight-up negligence or malice, amazingly.

I really hope the netcode in Assetto gets better.

Netcode from LFS 10 years ago is still really really really good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIUHaPGFfhY

Look at this poo poo. All online. No mods. (apart from a shader) Insane fields. Minimal jitter. And the cars still move around in such a way that you can read what's about to happen. Pickup races in LFS used to be amazing. I wonder if you can still find fields like that online.

God I love that game.

LFS apparently implements it really well. I haven't tried it, I don't have the game. pCARS is also really good with it, provided your system is good enough to constantly get 75fps. LFS I think is fully Oculus ready. All the menus are VR and whatnot. pCARS is not. The actual sim is in 3D but there's no HUD and the menu is still across the entire screen like a normal monitor. Those are the only two I know of at the moment. Assetto Corsa is due to get an update in September, so hopefully there will be VR in that update. iRacing should have rift support in the next season if there isn't a required maintenance update beforehand that they can cram it into.

Edit:
Fanatec has been doing this:

Unless they are making servo pedals, they are making a servo wheel. Previous servo wheels have cost somewhere in the range of 2000-infinity dollars. Based on previous Fanatec quality (or lack thereof), I don't think this will cost less than 1500. Looks interesting though.

Man, there were so many good free to play sims back in the day.

The worst netcode in a game I've ever played was Dirt Track Racing. If a car lagged it's speed would suddenly be set to -20 and go backwards on the track for a second. Most of the races ended up with everyone but the leader crashed out.

It really was that plus their FF model that made me fall in love with the game.

Plus pickup racing was great because if you were half-decent you could race on a server for a while and people were actually nice enough to share their setups if you weren't a douche. I'm pretty sure I still have a ton of FOX setups for Blackwood with random people's names attached to them signifying who I got them from.

In my opinion, their tire model AND force feedback has been far surpassed by the current crop of simulators. There is no real reason to stick with it, given that there's no modding in it, either.

The whole drama around S3 is pretty retarded. Not only have we been waiting for years for that dumb model, he's also tieing the new content to it. These idiots actually have a license from VW for the Scirocco for years now, and did poo poo with it. They're also sitting on three fully licensed tracks, but we're not getting them because he can't finish that drat tire model. Time shouldn't be the issue, because, not to sound like a PCARS whore again, the physics guy over at SMS wrote theirs after work.

Will the cars be a part of the base content? As in, added to the Early Access release or added as dlc post launch?

Also, so far I have not seen a single car with damage models. I have visual damage enabled in the options too but I get nothing. Think a wheel popped at most. I read that they are still working on it but I figured some cars already had it. Evidently not. Doesn't matter all that much but it is fun to see how much you can bang up a car.

Yeah the only visual damage I've seen is a front wheel being broken, there's some dirt buildup that accumulates over the course over a race though which is pretty cool. I sunk a few hours into it over the weekend after picking it up on sale and I'm really impressed, the force feedback is fantastic and it's surprisingly playable even with a 360 pad. Hoping some of those promised Toyotas are right hand drive.

The Facebook post or site don't specify whether they'll be in a DLC pack or not. I'm guessing it's going to be released pretty far in the future anyway, so maybe they're figuring out what they'll do with it themselves.

I think the GT-86 is supposed to be part of the nurb DLC, but I would guess the rest will be in another pack.
