They advertise it that way, but they don't have separate boxes for the Orkanauts because if's the same sprues. It's dumb to box up the same product as two different things (just like the GK Land Raider etc, which I bet won't even have so much as a sheet of Grey Knight transfers inside of them.

Also, a guy in our group is bringing a 30k Legion in the next campaign. He's running Raven Guard, and intends to field Marines in the hundreds. Will this be OK against 40k lists? He's convinced us all that its balanced, but I'm not entirely sure.

Is this the same crew that consistently denied you from bringing totally legal lists because they didn't like them? If so why is this 30k poo poo allowed?

It is the same group. I don't know why they're open to it. In other news, despite being kneecapped, I won the last campaign! First out of 12! Going from the bottom (winning less than 50% of my games) to the top (being undefeated in campaign play for 9 of 10 weeks) has given me a reputation in the group as a "hypercompetitive shitbag" - which I now wear with a badge of honor.

We have a 7 week break until the next campaign, for which I am solely responsible for the rules. We're allowing formations in the place of the LOW slot, and I'm trying to get a definitive list of the 40k Approved Formations (the non-apocalypse ones). These are the ones we have right now:

The ones you list under Space Marines are CSM ones. May wanna fix that.

SM ones are: Storm Wing, Reclusium Command Squad, Centurion Siegebreaker Cohort, and Tyrannic War Veterans.

Sanctus Reach also has some Formations. IG: Steel Host, Rampart Detachment; Knights: Adamantine Lance; Orks: Gorkanaut Krushin' Krew, Mogrok's Bossboys.

Murder Pack
Champion Power Scourge
4 H. Flamers

Total 570

My only problem is mixing them together that they kind of suck because you fire at the same target.

or go crazy and do

Murder Pack
Champion , Powerfists
4 Autocannons , 4 Missile Launchers

That's 8 Twinlinked 7 Shots, 4 ST8 or Frag Missiles.

The Tau formation is amazing. Broadsides that reroll essentially everything? Yes please. The only downside is that a Riptide without Markerlight or other support isn't nearly as good, but it's still throwing out pie plates, shooting down airplanes, wrecking tanks, and being super-tough to kill.

I've never seen a drop pod in real life. Do the doors on them open and close? Would it be possible to wire it up so that music plays when the doors open (on a hinge)? The wiring I can take care of, just need to know if the model is physically built in a way I can do that.

I really want to make a Dethklok Noise Marine squad.

Many players build the model so the doors open and close. If you can fit the player inside it should work. You might consider a solar cell to power the player, so when you open the doors and expose it to light the music starts so you don't need a switch or other "trigger".

The doors can swing open and closed if it's assembled correctly.

Drop Pods are notorious for being one of the most frustrating models to assemble correctly, however. Godspeed. :patriot:

Chaos got forgeworld's Dreadclaw, which at least used to have an outright chaosified version but isn't sold any more near as I can tell, and I can't speak for any current rules to use it. It's a shame because it was far more dethklok than the normal drop pod in that iirc it could stand back up and eat people.

The Dreadclaw is an absolute mess of nonsensical rules at this point. Basically, it is a flyer that is forced to Deep Strike onto the table (and presumably doesn't crash even though by the rules it should) and that also has the Assault Vehicle rule, so in the following turn you can go into Hover mode and then disembark some guys and go for punches. Except that, unlike the loyalist one, it can be shot down before delivering its cargo (enjoy those S10 AP2 hits!), it doesn't automatically arrive on the first turn, and isn't a dedicated transport.

So basically it's like a Drop Pod in the same way that a Stormraven is like a Drop Pod. Oh, and it's 85 loving points, too.

30k dreadclaws, with their fixed rules, are pretty good. They are AV12 fliers that automatically come in on turn 1 anywhere on the table and are counted as skimmers. Next turn fly it 12" over some cover and assault whatever you like. Or slam it into flier mode, fly it somewhere else, and assault turn 3.

For 100 points you basically have a guaranteed charge turn 2 or 3 anywhere on the board. AV12, 4+ jink, 6s to hit, and your guys aren't standing around with thumbs in their asses when it comes into play. Its like a ghetto caestus and perfect for assault troops.

I don't understand why they can't update the CSM version to function like this :(
