Finally ready to pull the trigger on an next-gen console, I only owned a PS3, not an X360. I was fully anticipating before the consoles launched that I'd be switching over to game with all of my friends on XBL but the longer I've waited the more set on a PS4 I've become.

Just a few questions, I was really hoping to wait for some more compelling exclusives to come out before I pulled the trigger but I think my want to play Destiny at launch is spurring me to make a decision.

1) Anyone who owns both consoles... are there any clear areas that it seems like PS4 or XB1 will be taking the lead in at any point soon? The XB1's tv integration is totally useless to me as I don't watch any cable channels, all of my tv watching is of the torrent/plex/roku nature. Any reasons I'm overlooking for why I should take another look at XB1 or is everyone here pretty happy w/ picking the PS4?

2) Where can I pre-order the destiny white edition PS4, and is it worth waiting for? if there's some smoking deal elsewhere on a black one that I'm not aware of then I guess I don't need to wait, otherwise I would kind of sort of like a white one.

The PS4 is outselling the Xbox One 2:1 and growing in lead. In no country or territory is the Xbox One outperforming the PS4.

If you only care about games and not media integration or anything like that the PS4 is well ahead of the Xbox One and that doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.

Only care about games for the most part, also bluray playback I suppose since I would likely get rid of my ps3... But being able to game with friends will be a big component as well and the ps3 just never felt like it got that right compared to XBL. I have yet to even pick up a ps4 controller to see how the friend finding works but it sounds like it's a much better experience over PS3?

You still cannot aim a gun and move at the same time as you could in 4 or Peace Walker(at least not with manual aim) which takes a bit of getting used to after something like 10 years of almost every 3rd person action game in existence using the same basic control set up. MGS3 is still the best game in the series though, and once you are used to the shooting controls, they are fine.

I forgot about this--I guess this is why playing MGS4, 5 and Peace Walker like straight run and gun action games is so easy. I just got around to playing MGS5 and I didn't really bother using stealth at all my first time through, which felt a little weird. Seems as though the series is getting away from its stealth roots a bit.

This is the only Metal Gear I've ever played and while it was a fun game it did not have a decent plot. Here's a refresher, if you need it. It's a dumb convoluted techno-military soap opera complete with people dying right before they can relay crucial information, a mysterious evil twin, somebody coming back from the dead, and cringe-worthy romance between paramilitary super-heroes. It is bad, campy, dumb writing and if it's really the best one story-wise I'm suddenly very nervous about the plot of Silent Hills.

I disagree, the games are still very much stealth focused, they're just implementing shooting controls that aren't bad (even though I love the old shooting).

That's basically what I'm saying - it's become easier to go in guns blazing because the controls have improved. The game is still very much about stealth though, and it's essentially impossible to get a good ranking by shooting things up. I also haven't tried shooting stuff in hard mode, but I imagine that wouldn't go over too well.

I've had my PS4 for a few days now, and so far the only games I have for it are Road not Taken, Fez, and P.T., because they're all free (well, the first two on PS+, at any rate.)

I know I'll pick up Destiny when that comes out (is it worth it to pre-order now? Is the Beta still going on, or did that close?) What else should I get?

I played both InFamous games on PS3, so Second Son seems tempting, but I'm worried it'll just me more of the same, yet a little prettier. I've never been into Call of Duty of Battlefield, so those are out. I have Transistor and Rogue Legacy on PC, and I might eventually buy them on PS4 if they drop in price, but not right now. I tried out Watch Dogs via Gamefly, and didn't care for it.

Is Assassin's Creed IV good? Will I enjoy it even I only ever played the first rear end. Creed game about halfway through? Or do I need all the others for story purposes?

Is Lego Marvel Superheroes with $40? I also haven't played any previous Lego games...I'm a terrible gamer, it would seem.

It's good, and you don't need to have played the others. Some of the story stuff will make no sense and there will probably a few times when the game obviously intends you to have a huge dramatic realization that just goes over your head but that doesn't affect the core pirating gameplay which is really fun.

AC4 is the best pirate game made in the last decade. The follow missions get old if you want to advance the plot really quickly but if you're happy to hunt down collectible sea shanties, they unlock actual songs your crew sings as you barrel around the ocean sinking ships and taking on Perfect Storms. It's great.

AC4 is good, conditionally. You don't need to worry about story stuff, as I'm pretty sure there's a cinematic that fills in the so-called plot fairly well before the full game starts, and after that there's only a few tie ins. You'll be lost at some of the references, but frankly I was lost at some of them too and I've played every main game since the first one came out.

Gameplay wise, it's quite fun. It's basically a pirate sim, with the occasional boring plot mission you have to do in order to upgrade your ship more and go kill pirates. I enjoyed it a lot, despite the boring mission design, and the game looks very pretty as well.

If you've got gamefly, it's worth a rental.

Destiny beta is over. The game comes out in September. Infamous Second Son is really fun as a rental. Assassin's Creed IV has some good moments but ultimately I was bored by most of it. A lot of people here will tell you that AC4 is the best one (or at least the best one in a while) but I didn't find that to be true. The story kind of ties into the other games in some ways but they're not required. Honestly, if you have a 360 or PS3, I'd just tell you to get AC2/Brotherhood instead, as those are far better games and you can probably get them for cheaper anyway.

And I got inadvertently spoiled on parts of the rear end. Creed plot anyway. I know there's the Assassin's vs Templars, and some artifact thing, and then aliens did some stuff? Something like that? though I'm not sure what game that's from, other than not I...One of the half-dozen rear end. Creed II spin-offs? III? IV?

I do like pirates, though...
