I had one of those, it worked until your mother shoved it in the washing machine at 60 degrees. Yeh, the early 90s, the white stripe and bus stop era. 70s sucked, 80s sucked, 90s sucked slightly less, and then in the 2000s-now everyone has internet and smart phones and we old farts remember how much it sucked having to use the yellow pages for everything, and how much of a time sink it was to either go round all the different places getting prices and quotes for an entire day, or just going to the nearest onr and hoping it was the best.

I was a junior in high school when 9/11 happened and it was a WASPy town I lived in so when it happened they annouced the most basic facts "two planes have hit the WTC and one at the pentagon" and then loving killed the cableTV and internet connection to the entire school and then announced "If you need to talk to a conselour go ahead I guess". Our town was made up of a lot of Delta Airlines employees so just about everyone was thinking "oh poo poo was any of my parents going to NYC today?". Also because of no communication with the outside world everyone was spreading whatever info they heard and by the time school was out I had heard that there organized car bombings in every major city. I left not knowing whether this was going to be a big loving deal or over after a month like Oklahoma City. Well at least there's this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anjyiO754hU

Work life was pretty different in the early 90s too. You could keep the sphere of your lovely work life separate from the sphere of your lovely personal life a little bit easier thanks to the fact that you weren't tethered in some way to communication at all times. People couldn't loop you in on stupid poo poo or pass off things they didn't want to do as easily (they still did but it made you appreciate the effort it took for them to be a shithead as seethe for well-timed revenge). Work still sucked but things just generally took a lot longer to get accomplished and people's expectations of time in the early 90s changed as the internet took off. Seems like the dredge of wasting time also necessitated a creativity for loving around to pass the time with more inventiveness. You tried to slack off with other people if you enjoyed some of your co-workers or roam around by yourself to find the safe haven on the upper floor bathroom stalls to offload the three Big Macs you ate at lunch because on Monday the god drat things were only 99 cents each and it was totally healthy to eat all that poo poo because Michael Jordan and Larry Bird did it all the time and they were the definition of doing alpha poo poo all day long. Also the lack of fedoras and handlebar mustaches made for a generally better existence. Tuesday was cajun McChicken or some other poo poo Wednesday was 6 piece nuggets Thursday back to Cajun firepoop Friday Fish Fillet for our catholic friends and all the drat fish had probably turned at that point

I'm reminded of the episode of The Simpsons where a fortune teller shows Lisa the future. There's a gag of Marge saying "Fox turned into hardcore pornography so gradually..." and that's really where we were slowly heading. I mean, there were multiple shows in the 90's whose entire premise was "stuffy meek guy meets girl who likes lots of sex", and we had like full butt and sideboob on NYPD Blue. Honestly, the real flaw in Ms Jackson's logic was that America was ready for her "wardrobe malfunction" already and not like five or ten years down the road. Instead in turned the powers that be into prudes and set back standards like, 30 years.

BigBoss posted:No, he's right. The fashion of 2014 isn't radically different from 1999 in the same way clothes from 1974 were radically different from 1959. There have been minor changes, but most things normal people wear day to day are pretty similar over the past 15 years. It is true! Like, when you look at pictures of people from the 1990s, the clothing look a little different, but at no point will you be saying "how could anyone ever wear that?" And the ridiculous examples we have of fashion from the 90s and 00s were usually people who were involved in a ridiculous subculture at the time.

the 90s was a golden age for waterguns just an endless parade of water gun toy companies trying to one-up each other and even themselves by strapping more poo poo onto poo poo also the Jurassic Park game for Sega owned and featured that one level where you play grant with a pistol and the T-Rex head explodes through the wall and you have to shoot it or something

Everything in the 90s was EXTREME and right around this time, in 2004, we actually saw things being scaled back for the first time. For better or worse. This was around the time that ECW had gone away, with its barbed wire on a stick fights, and when Chappelle's Show went away because white people couldn't let us keep nice things. And when the NFL went from "hits of the week" to a new understanding of the long-term effects of concussions from those hits of the week.
