So I went to the zoo! Next time I'll take a tripod and a couple of lenses, but it was a good scouting trip.

Thanks. Light was starting to be a pretty big issue under the forest canopy once the fog rolled in, so I was working at pretty wide apertures on those. There wasn't much room to move back and focus a wider shot for either of those (for the slugs, I was balancing on a root next to the tree's trunk and for the frog the lens is holding fern fronds out of the way), but I got a shot of a different slug that's not entirely bokeh.

Been in Alaska 2 days and the best I've gotten so far is a red fox in camp. Best bird photo has been a robin :negative: Got a couple more weeks up here so hopefully something a little more characteristically Alaskan.

Thanks- they probably are. On my old camera I usually shot at -2/3 to avoid blowing highlights and I haven't shot with my 6D enough to get a feel for that (and I was too tired to worry about pp on these).

I took my new Tamron 150-600 to the zoo today to mess around with it. Its the biggest lens I've ever had but I got used to it pretty quickly. I was so excited to use it though I forgot to check all my settings before I started taking pictures. Bad idea after you've let your two year old play with your camera in your lap :negative: Apparently he had switched it to spot metering and all my shots ended up with blown out skies and highlights. Oh well. Still got to see this cute girl running back and forth above me.

Great fox photos. I'm especially loving the look on this one's face - is there enough detail to crop in for a close up on it?

I paid a visit to a Roosevelt elk herd on Saturday.

I'm gonna try to edit something together with the bull's rutting behavior after I finish my current video project. It got pretty gross - rutting involves a lot more bodily fluids splashing all over than most nature documentaries let on.

I also had a visit from a family of river otters while I was staking out a kingfisher's favorite spot
