Since it seems to be the talk of the town I just wanted to let you all know that I don't really care about the subject of MAD comics

Also, if you happen to be in Helsinki, go check out the art gallery Art Kaarisilta, there's a Fok_It exhibition going on as part of the Helsinki Comics Festival.

I don't know :wtf:.

I think this is another instance of a Holbrook comic not having any sort of real consequences for its protagonists. I'm guessing that Rabbit-Mom stole all the vegetables just so she could teach Rudy a valuable lesson about...uh...not getting his stuff stolen? I don't know.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was, Has anyone else noticed that Hey Look! (Kurtzman's stuff in general,) looks an awful lot like a more talented, actually Funny Darren Bell bit? That's how you can tell it's not his though, because it's actually hand drawn (not cut and pasted) and is actually amusing.

I have two old books that I found in a thrift shop:

from 1974: "Funky Winkerbean #2: Closed Out"
and 1980: "Funky Winkerbean: You know you've got trouble when your school mascot is a scapegoat"

They're kind of fragile since the paper is non-acid-free newsprint, but I'll start posting them tonight when I get to my scanner. Let the revels (or reviles) begin.

Agreed. I've often heard that Funky Winkerbean used to be a wacky joke-a-day like the title implies and then over time Batiuk decided he wanted to make Real Art. I'd be interested to see if that's true or if it's the same McEldowney effect that made us think Chickweed used to be good.

Hey, on the bright side, I guess they didn't need to know Spanish after all!

It's "clinica fabulosa", so they really don't.

Also, it's hard to get badder and/or more shallow than assuming that a US high school degree is going to make more of a difference than donating money to hire, I don't know, someone with actual skills?
