Stony Silence isn't amazing vs pod. You haven't actually stopped anything, you've just made it harder for them to do their thing. You also did this by spending a spell so you're not really ahead. Pod still has Chord to tutor things out and it's a creature based strategy so the longer you durdle the longer they're hitting you for 4-5 a turn.

I think I'll stop playing standard constructed until the second Khans set hit and just exclusively play limited. With fetches now in the picture, along with this tri-colored block, the money required to get those duals will be a bit too much for me at the moment. :(

If you've been able to afford to play standard with Shocks, you'll be able to afford to play standard with Fetches.

He didn't resolve chord during our match. He just rolled me with dudes and I drew like poo poo... The other pod deck I lost to was a Kiki Pod player who seemed to have no idea what he was doing and of course I flood out 2 games in a row. I'm used to playing Twin so losing to pod decks is a new jarring experience....

if you're like me a like to get a playset of modern/eternal/EDH relevant duals when they're cheaper, most of the theros scrylands are between $3 and $6 TCG low. G/W and G/B are the outliers at $7 and $8 respectively.

I picked up ~2 of everything under $5 and 1 of the rest.

Hell, they may be more affordable than shocks while in print. Without typed duals around for them to fetch they are pretty subpar and without demand in standard decks you're going to see a lot of them get dumped onto the market unwanted. Plus, people are going to buy shitloads of boxes hoping to crack the things so the very merchants and speculators that want to profit off them may wind up putting a lot of downward pressure on the price themselves.

Foils should be a guaranteed payday though - legacy-playable foils always fetch massive premiums (See: Conspiracy Brainstorms) so those will be worth a mint if you get lucky enough to crack one.

What makes them great in Modern might not be around in Standard. Right now, the only thing the fetches are grabbing are basic lands. Obviously, they're probably going to put in some sort of typed dual, but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see many fetches at all.

Edit: Many fetches at all in Standard decks, I mean.

Even if they just grab basics they are terrific and will be in pretty much every deck. And I'm sure there will be other targets.

Fetches aren't particularly good without typed duals, but people will still play them because they need to play dual lands. I wasn't around for Zendikar standard so I can't comment on that, but in Onslaught standard, they only really took priority over pain lands when decks could take advantage of the graveyard through Grim Lavamancer or Psychatog or whatever.

e: of course most decks just played both fetches and pains when they could, but decks like wake tended to play more pains/odyssey filters than fetches

All the 3 color decks (best decks) of both eras were supported by fetches.

We're getting off topic, but iirc Wake was only the best deck once seventh rotated out and eighth rotated in with corresponding loss of counterspell, force spike, and maybe opportunity(I can't remember if Opportunity saw any play); I thought before that it was Tog.

No, it was always the best, but people were much worse at the game and worse at deckbuilding. Like Legacy Miracles it took a swift practiced pilot to successfully play it at a tournament.

Gensuki

Alright so fetches are... Deck thinning, easy shuffling when you have a way to look at the top cards of your deck, maybe ways to grab dual/tri lands (like murmuring bosk without the treefolk sub them?) if they come with Khans. They also enable landfall abilities like Courser of Cruphix, which conveniently enjoys all of the abilities fetches provide.

Is the clash pack at this point cheaper than the parts you get from it?

It was wake or tog depending on who you ask, both were really good

the unofficial best (and by best i mean coolest) deck was actually r/w slide with the 15 land destruction sideboard though
