While fictional they are all apparently modeled very clearly on real places. P4's Inaba is based off the real city of Fuefuki, and P3's Tatsumi Port Island is supposed to be somewhat based off the real life Port Island in Kobe, an artificial island that is sort of its own mini city. P2's Sumaru is straight up Yokohama down to some of the areas having the same name.

I dunno why they make such a big deal about making them fictional when the entire SMT series occurs in actual real-life Tokyo though! Maybe it's time for them to finally put a Persona game in Tokyo and change the subtitle of all SMT games to Persona: SMT 5: Apocalypse Dance

I don't mind the new protagonist, just looks like an ordinary guy, which is best with this series and not too far off from the other games.

I thought it was Shibuya as well, but it probably isn't

At first it definitely is. Once you hit Eridanus and further, macca shouldn't be a problem if you are using Enemy Search. Rare enemies after that point almost always have forma that are worth 6,000 to 10,000 macca, with a few whammy exceptions like Thor (whose hammer is only worth 2,000 for whatever stupid reason).

I'll definitely agree with most of the other complaints about the game I've seen, especially dungeon design. Dungeon design gets way too reliant on trap floors, conveyor and teleport mazes, and a dearth of save and heal points. Grus in particular made me nearly quit the game as soon as I saw its theme was "let's stuff every environmental hazard you've seen so far into one huge gimmick dungeon". I'm also not a huge fan of the fact that some demons can only be attained through passwords and you'd basically have to look them up to even know they were in the game.

Overall I've definitely enjoyed the game more than I expected to, though. The demon source concept feels like a good compromise between older SMT games' inheritance roulette and SMT IV and P4G's free reign system, the elemental guns similarly feel like a compromise between non-caster main characters like in Soul Hackers and spellcasting protagonists like in SMT IV, the music is good (albeit limited), the demon selection is great and there never seems to be a set of "dead levels" for what you can fuse, and the boss fights never seem like they are absolutely unfair until you start getting into the alignment-locked battles.

Oh, and 8% chance of encountering Fiends is so much more lenient than the horrible Fiend hunting system in IV. I actually have a full set of rare encounter Fiends on my Neutral run rather than bitter feelings after going down the same elevator trying (and failing) to spawn Red Rider for hours on end.

It's also coming to PS4 and the Japanese release is getting delayed till next year probably because of that.

It also either takes place in Shibuya or a fictional part of Tokyo that is Not-Shibuya.

The P5 logo kind of looks like a gas station logo.

Gas station attendant confirmed.

I don't mind the look of the protag too much. It just made me think "black-haired Yu." But I'm pretty sick of Yu by now, so someone who looks a little more introverted is a nice change of pace. (I was secretly hoping we'd get the Pun Master, though. :( )

Also notice how in the end with the flame, time just sort of stopped around the protagonist? Maybe all the action will be on the streets in a frozen time.
