Kessel posted:Gearing question. Sorry in advance if it's dumb. I'm pretty sure that the final missions of the Issues 5/6/7/8/9 content all reward a QL10.1 custom purple talisman. They're all for a different slot and you can pick between a tanking piece, a damage dealing piece and a healing piece each time. If you've got those issues, they're an easy and fun way to get endgame gear. Pretty sure you can also buy them with the various new currencies (credits of ca' d'oro etc.) you get for finishing those missions. As for TYPE of gear, that's really hard to give advice for without knowing what content you're planning on doing. Basically, for regular quest content you can do anything. For elite dungeons, you can still get away with doing your own thing to a large extent, but you'll probably find that specifically aiming for a tank/dps/healer role will simplify stuff. For endgame group content like nightmare dungeons and scenarios, people might get pissy if you don't have a somewhat cookie-cutter build. In summary, the further down the group content rabbit hole you go, the more stringent pubbies' expectations about gear/builds get. You can get them whenever you want, most of the missions are tooled for QL10 dudes so you should be fine. The only thing to keep in mind though is that the aux weapons are point sinks, each skill costs 50AP.

Speaking of point sinks, is there any way to get augments other than Venetian scenarios? I have tons of AP I can't use right now.

If you have pax you can buy most of what you need with those via the auction house including attuning kits. Some stuff is more expensive than others but you should be able to fill out the +ar/hr/hp and some of the blue stuff pretty easily.

So I decided to actually put some money/time into this game again. I got episode 7 and it was pretty fun. The flame thrower is pretty satisfying. I exchanged the 1000 tokens I had accumulated grinding AP back in the day for grab bags and got a bunch of signets... and tacos, so many tacos. I was thinking about getting episode 8, but I already have a story line mission for the Venetian Agenda. I have to do sequences until my brain melts so I can get approval from the Council. The thing is, I don't remember buying the DLC. Is there a history of stuff you bought, or is this a normal story line mission that doesn't have anything to do with the DLC? Everyone can play the main storyline portion of issue 8 and has limited access to scenarios. Purchasing issue 8 gives you access to the other two scenarios and future scenario content or something like that. If you get the sidestories packs, one of them has the mission "Immersion" which when you complete it gives you access to a forged council seal which you can purchase for money. Doing so eliminates the need to grind scenario content for a legitimate seal. Marx fucked around with this message at 11:37 on Sep 2, 2014 |

I'm with Plat, the text adventure was a good idea done badly. It devolved into a game of "solve the bad parser." The rifle is what stands out -- you load it and it becomes LoadedRifle, the game won't accept "rifle" or "loaded rifle" -- but there were a couple like that. Didn't help that they just forced you to start over if you died, which was often unforeseeable and the result of going a direction you had no way of knowing was dangerous. Oddly, the bear itself was actually pretty forgiving.

I've actually just reached the scenarios and they've sapped me of all my will to play. I'm curious: what was the context for releasing this and calling it content? Were they just buying time to develop the next issue?

Kessel posted:I've actually just reached the scenarios and they've sapped me of all my will to play. Ding ding ding. Although to be fair it was supposed to be bigger than just three maps and one big escort mission type. Also it was something new to Scenarios aren't a bad idea, and I'm sure to a certain degree they meant well and wanted to add variation to the game. Except with Funcom's inaptitude and staff/money constraints this backfired, as usual. In a different MMO with proper funding and a real dev team, wave defense scenarios would have launched in a content patch with other scenario types and -maps, system- and PvP changes and for story content some of Tokyo or at least the side stories mission pack.

I bought issue 8 the other day, because there are three pieces of lore in scenarios that you have to have issue 8 in order to get.

Scenarios were supposed to be more than wave defense. One mode was going to involve a jet ski and a tsunami, the other was a Scooby-Doo type investigation style thing. Also open world king of the hill PvP was scrapped too.

I guess they ran out of budget and time and just repurposed three existing locations and all the art assets. It's really disappointing because the game so far, in terms of story, has been about you fighting gods and demons and punching vampires in the nut sack and being awesome and then all of a sudden HERE CERTIFY YOURSELF IN THIS DINGY BASEMENT COMPUTER ROOM A BUNCH.

Question about upgrading using black bullion: I have a 10.1 head and neck from the issues. It says custom, so I can upgrade these with black bullion, right? Is there any stat difference between these and the regular 10.x you get and upgrade from the Nightwatch vendor?

A 10.x custom is the same as a 10.x pvp gear, the difference is that nightwatch can not be upgraded to 10.5, only custom gear can. Unless something has changed or I am misunderstanding the question. To upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5 requires a criterion upgrade, which can only be used with custom gear.

There's no stat difference and they are functionally identical to Nightmare customs, so definitely use and upgrade them. Unless you really, really hate the icon or something.

Kessel posted:I've actually just reached the scenarios and they've sapped me of all my will to play. The basic concept was in an older Funcom MMO, Anarchy Online. It was way more developed and you could sort of create custom dungeons with the use of a bunch of sliders to set the random generator parameters. Obviously in TSW they half assed it to the point where it becomes too repetitive to really be worthwhile.

Kessel posted:Perfect, this is exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks everyone! That's about right. If you get comfortable with nightmares beyond the standard 18 (polaris/darkness war/hell raised) you can rack up a fair amount of bullion "pretty quickly" The other day I ran 24's (18's + Hell Eternal), Slaughterhouse, and Ankh - so that makes like 70 black bullion not including the additional ones from condensing. Of course if you have a bad group these things can be both long and hellish, but if you have a good group you can push through this in 2 to 3 hours if you want to invest the time. I would suggest you get all of the 10.1 issue upgradable pieces and do what you need to do to get the piece specific signets for some of them (the +117 AR for the ring/neck is handy). Not having to buy the talisman+the first upgrade adds up, saves you like 200 BBs.

Each of the quest reward 10.1 customs (the ones from the end of Issues) have specific signets available from the vendor that can only be fitted into the 3 customs from that quest. You'll need a bunch of issue currency to get one though.

You can get the signet of chernoborg from the vendor in the Romani camp in Shadowy Forest for 50 ca'd'oro credit things - that fits into the issue 7 reward neck. There's another 117 signet for the issue 9 reward ring but I can't think of its name - and that costs 40(?) tokyokens.

If you want the group composition, here's what I see the best raid groups being: Group 1 Tank1 (blade fist) Tank2 (blade fist) Healer1 (AR fist) DPS Buffbot (pistol shotgun) Podder (AR elemental) Group 2 Melee DPS1 (blade fist) Melee DPS2 (blade fist) Healer2 (AR elemental) DPS Buffbot (pistol shotgun) Ranged DPS (AR Blood) The ranged DPS and the podder deal with adds, with assistance from pistol/shotty DPS if needed. Both groups have full buff sets. All melee (tanks included) are maxing DPS. Healers are a significant DPS contributor. 5 minute cheevo shouldn't be a problem with this composition. Binding whip debuff should always be on boss with that many melee. GEMorris fucked around with this message at 03:59 on Sep 5, 2014 |
