No, no, you see, this is an adult manga, full of thoughtful discourses, such as an investigative, almost insightful, conversation on the evolutionary aesthetics, using such advanced topics as paleontological anthropology and the Hirschfeldan theory of psychology. There's also a prolonged, extended, arc (both character and story, amazingly) regarding hermeneutics of ancient Chinese classical literature, where the inter-relationship of literary characters are probed and explored to an extensive, some would say excessive, detail. Also, a girl sucked on a boy's thigh.

Have any of you guys read "My Neighbor Seki"? Do you like it? Do you want to read more manga like it? Well, if you haven't read it, then you should try Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-San (I have no idea what this is in English). It's about a middle school boy who is teased by a girl who always gets the better of him -- "If you blush, you lose!" is the name of the game. The scanlator's been posting chapter regularly as of late, and it's just a lot of good, clean fun.

I just finished reading through Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a battle manga but it's more mystery/slice-of-lifeish. If you've never read it(or only watched the anime, which is mostly filler) I recommend giving it a try. The pacing is a little off in the first 10 chapters but then it gets going.

I stopped reading Black Butler in the middle of the arc where he was infiltrating the school a few years ago. I'm just not a big fan of it since I'm probably not part of the demographic it's aiming for, and I just ended up losing interest as a result.

I heard people talking bad about Prison School in here because they didn't get that the author is mad that his other series had to go on hiatus and decided to make a manga about how nerd are pathetic tit obsessed poo poo piles because he hates them. It's wonderful. I mean it's still a bad series but going "ugh it's just tits" is missing the point really hard. The point is it's just tits because that's what you nerds want so here loving choke on them that's what you get for not supporting better series. It's Kick-rear end 2 but with titties instead of gross out violence. I can appreciate that kind of spite.

All that is a supposition on the author's motives, and I don't see a source cited. I've heard there're some hilarious bits, but I'm still uninterested in reading Prison School from what I've heard of it.

Prison School is basically this Patton Oswalt bit but instead of a magician it's a fantastic manga artist and rather than magic it's a titty manga. It may be supposition, but it's not hard to feel contempt coming from every page. You're not supposed to be able to feel like a good person for even skimming it. It's also not hard to believe that a guy who made a good series about a man who sold his soul to the devil to be a great blues musician might be a bit angry that that got canceled but something as trashy as Prison School is what it takes to get published.

Until there's a very frank interview where he comes off as the most bitter and sarcastic guy in Japan, I'm going to just assume that he unironically goes for that sort of thing, the same way Tarantino and Rodriguez unironically love shlocky grindhouse movies and want to make them.

This is the same kinda dumb as "can you cite that this subtext is intended", probably because it's the exact same thing.

# ? Sep 9, 2014 14:14 |

Yeah except, regardless of whether the subtext is intentional or not, all you've done is go "yo there's this subtext" without giving any evidence of it at all. And I guess your last post could make sense from a post-structuralist point of view, but you're the one who said that the nerd hate thing IS the author's intent, so that kind of kills that idea. I think I'm probably misunderstanding your post, though. Basically, until you're more clear, probably everyone is just gonna assume you're trying to give your favourite high school titty manga some literary vindication. Then again I doubt anyone really gives a poo poo. Dunno how we got from "if you ask me, this titty manga has slightly more intellectual merit than most" to where we are now. Goons like arguing, I guess. Frankenstein Dad fucked around with this message at 15:29 on Sep 9, 2014 |

To make myself more clear, satirical/parody intent can be guessed from a reading of a work (and from what I've heard of how silly the manga is, it isn't an unreasonable guess), but spiteful intent is stretching it. As an example, one could make a guess that Urobutcher is being spiteful toward, say, the magical girl genre from a watching of Madoka. This isn't really the case. He just likes to think about and write grimdark stuff. Likewise, Evangelion is the way it is because the guy who directed and wrote it was depressed, not because he was being spiteful toward the mecha genre. In the end, I think you're just projecting your own hatred for the subject matter onto the author. But honestly I don't care that much about some extremely silly titty and rear end manga, not enough to check it out anyways. Kaja Rainbow fucked around with this message at 16:40 on Sep 9, 2014 |

When satire or parody becomes that mean-spirited and gross "This dude is mad about poo poo" isn't an unreasonable assumption, and the entire book is about how the four dudes are pathetic awful human beings who are willing to accept being slaves because it means they get to be near big titty women.

I think it's reasonable to say just from glancing at Prison School that Hiramoto really hates the people who would unironically enjoy it, and wishes he could do more Me and the Devil Blues (which he is now!), but at that doesn't mean I wanna read it. It's great that there are enough people who do that he gets to keep a roof over his head, though.
