So I'm trying to get back on Gold, but for some reason the stupid billing system refuses to use neither the card it has on record, nor the new one I am trying to add to it. It declines both, despite the fact that I've checked everything on my end and they're both perfectly functional and fine.

Is it worth my time buying a timecard from amazon or something instead?

Call your bank's fraud department and ask what's up with that, something is wrong there. Possibly because they automatically refuse payment to non-US recipients, that has happened to me in the past.

Honestly, having been out to the PTS to try the new archetype with its new powers - eh. The Rocket Punch is a charge-up hand-slot PA attack, and is kind of cool - you get one destroid-looking fist per target in the cylinder - but the rest is just kind of dull. The new Form - Aspect of the Machine - is only interesting in that it currently procs on Killing Blowq, which means you have to score last hit consistently or your form wears off. Not... so good.

The rest of the game is still pretty okay, though. Does anybody have wisdom to share regarding ice powers? I kind of want to make an ice tank, maybe with Stormbringer? What's good in ice? How do I not run out of energy?

EDIT: I guess Stormbringer doesn't make any sense for a tank. Mostly I'm worried about how to build an ice character that doesn't starve for energy.

If there's a power with a real short CD, you could always look to MSA for energy.

Standard models come in white labcoats for inexplicable reasons.
Alternately, since you're building a tank anyway take constitution as your primary stat and get the specialisation that gives you energy every time you get hit. 6% per hit for three points, one second internal cooldown if I remember rightly.

So if you're interested in the update apparently someone did a playthrough of the new mission content in the update and uploaded it all to their channel. Judging by the number of videos there seems like a fair bit of content, though i've just started going through it. Can't say what the quality of it is but if you're itching for superhero antics or to see what's in the update it might tide you over.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A00IvDgvIWM

Personally i'm surprised there's a channel dedicated to LPing Champions Online. :stare:

Edit: Jesus christ, the first mission appears to deal with you dealing with "Sudden Human Combustion Syndrome". A disease that causes random civilians on the street to burst into flame, screaming as they graphically have their flesh and clothing burnt off. :stonk:

Edit 2: The cause behind it is literally "NANOMACHINES, SON!" too.

Then after that you get shrunk down to go into someone's body to beat the poo poo out of the disease with your fists/superpowers. Complete with a new custom level making up part of the human body.

Pretty much any fire power that was a PBAOE could simulate this. Albeit without the whole "charred flesh" thing. :stonk:

Alternatively, auras are a fully functional cosmetic customization option separate from powers now. So there's nothing keeping you from setting some type of fire aura to run full time or whenever you want to activate it. Would make playing a character like "The Amazing Self Combusting Man!" pretty easy.

If you superstat CON, Defiance seems up your alley for defense and energy regen. Passives and auras are separate now so you can be tanky and still rock the Stormbringer look.

Everyone that still has even a passing interest in this game needs to log in between now and Monday 11am to claim your free Until Shuttle vehicle and Cyborg Beast costume set. It's a promotion for the newly released Steel Crusade content. I ran the first part of it a couple nights ago. It's not bad. Microman shrinks you down to fight robots inside of people's bodies in a new tileset that will remind CoX players of Saving Johnny Sonata's Soul.

So I thought all you had to do to get that new archetype was have someone at level 40? I have 4 gold characters at 40, but I'm currently silver and the archetype is greyed out. Do I need to either level a silver to 40 or buy gold to get it or what?

You need to log in with a level 40 character to get an unlock. Which was a bit painful for me since I'm not subscribed and all of mine were freeform. :v:

Any tips on a power armor dude? I've mostly been focusing on a ranged particle build for the moment (I just couldn't get melee to work well). Take super-END, get the Kickback specialization from that, and Automated Assault. You can now shoot forever.

For funsies, I tried backstabbing Psimon in his home mission, where that kills him dead. And it does! No transform, he just flumps over.

I have a 27 PA that super stated Int, and went with Con and End for secondaries. She easily range tanks alerts, making liberal use of Unstoppable. Her attacks mostly consist of minigun and micro munitions, plus my favorite PA power of all- Concussor Beam. I'm really satisfied with her performance so far.

Night Warrior trivializes a lot of mission bosses. But when it fails, you're usually spectacularly hosed. At least that's my experience so far at 21.

Okay, so I'm going to give this a go while waiting for my STO doffs to do their thing, just have one question for now: How's ranged DPS? I like the playstyle, and as long as I'm not gimping myself too much, I don't mind. Also, can I make macros like in STO? I mean, stuff like press the '1' key to cycle through all my powers and stuff?

Babe Magnet
Jun 2, 2008

Ranged DPS: Depends on the powerset. I'm assuming you're a free player, so you're going to be using Archetypes. If you're not planning on becoming an unstoppable murder machine and just merely want to dominate everything within your attack range, you're pretty much good picking anything that interests you. Fire is fuckloads of damage, I think it's the best overall ranged damaged for free players. Ice is ranged too, and it's a defensive powerset, but still hits like a truck. Bows are kind of cool, and with munitions you get a lot of cool toys like submachine guns, rocket launchers, miniguns, etc.

Grimoire I heard is kind of buns until the later levels. I never played with the magic powers all that much. I think the Celestial powerset guy is supposed to be pretty ace, but he's primarily built around healing and survivability.

It's going to be really hard to gimp yourself, and if you're not liking how your dude is progressing, you get a Free Respec token when you hit max level I think.

Macros: I don't think you can, and I don't think you really need to. Not sure it would be even possible, seeing how powers work.

You've basically got three kinds of active powers you're going to be using. I can't remember the names they call them, but they're basically:

Auto-Attacks: your energy builder, what you use to get rage/mana/energy/whatever you're used to from other games. These can be set to toggle per enemy, per combat, permanently on, or as a hold in your options menu.

Combos: you tap these a bunch to do a lot of rapid attacks.

Charges: (I think these are called Rushes?) You can tap it for a quick burst of damage, or hold it down and charge it all the way for a lot more damage and usually some other effect, like a stun or a knockdown.

So yeah, there's a lot of tapping and holding, so macros may not be in the cards. If you're using one of the base Archetypes, you won't have a lot of moves in the beginning anyway.

Things to keep in mind if you're new:

For some stupid reason you're limited in your costume options until like level 10 or so, so don't sweat your options too much in the beginning. You'll get more stuff to play dress-up. A lot of the options are locked behind the cash shop, but there's a pretty large amount of stuff you can get in-game from the token vendors, the mission packs, and randomly as drops. Be sure to check the "hide unowned items" or whatever box at the bottom of the character creator if you see it. Also, once you complete the tutorial once, you never have to do it again.

If you go into the Powerhouse, the big high-tech gear place, any powers you buy can be removed and repurchased for free until you leave it. Use this opportunity to test out a bunch of travel powers before you commit, because you're not getting a different one until level 30. There's a teleporter opposite the entrance that can take you to a variety of testing arenas for powers and such.

Around level 10 or 11, do the XP alerts that show up next to your minimap. With a decent party, they don't last more than 10 minutes, and I've never had a queue last more than 30 seconds. It's quick in, quick out, you get a chunk of XP at the end, and you also get an XP boost that lasts an hour.

Post costumes.

E: Also, if anyone is getting that superhero itch, all subs are 33% off this weekend, including 1 months. 1 months are 10 bucks right now.

Yeah, I can't help you with the subscribing thing, but munitions is good fun. Lots of cool toys and you've got some nasty AoE options.

All you're missing out on with gold is:

500 free cashmoney a month, which is like a costume pack's worth I think

Power color changing (not that noticeable with munitions)

Some free basic costume packs (most of which look like butt)

Freeform Powerset (pick and choose from every power in the game)

and that's it I think. They made the Adventure Packs free a while back

E: Oh and a couple of character slots, an extra costume slot, and the rest of the archetypes, which doesn't really matter when you can just make a freeform dude anyway

I'm trying to convince myself to play more so I can unlock the new powerset, so if anyone wants to do any group stuff find me in-game at @Unsubredun. I'm not sure how active the Supergroup is right now, if it's even active at all, as I'm not part of it.

As for crafting, as far as I can tell, the only way to raise your crafting level is to find your style (Mystic, Arms, Tech) loot containers out in the wild, take those items you get from them, and then combine 5 of them at a time at a crafting table. They simplified crafting a lot a few patches ago. Not sure about breaking down items, haven't found out a way if you can. I'd just sell them.
