How'd that asshole get a white robe?!

I didn't get the SMS relay pop-up until I actually sent an SMS message from my phone. That seems to trigger it.

This was really slick on my iPad too until it tried to send to one of my Android contacts as an iMessage. Now it is trying to send anything I send to them as an iMessage from either iPad or iPhone.

Will the 6+ home screen landscape orientation come over to the Air and/or rMini in iOS8? Cause it should.

At some point, presumably. I haven't heard anything about it being in the iOS 8 GM.

iPads already have landscape mode for the home screen though...

The 6+ has added keys in landscape that iPads do not.

Sorry, I guess I meant how the dock stayed on the particular side and all the home screen icons rotated rather having everything shift over with the dock always following the bottom edge.

It just seems neater that way for some reason. I don't know maybe I'm just thinking that because it's new. :v:

Apparently it's not actually supposed to go live until October, which would explain why it's not working for some people.

I was given a free iPad Air by my university. Problem is I already bought an Android tablet (which I prefer) before I knew I'd be getting the iPad. What's something cool I can do with the iPad? I'd rather not sell it as I'm not sure if I'll have to use it at school.

So I've read in a few places that installing iOS8 will lock my Mac out of iCloud until the next OS upgrade hits. Is this really a thing? I'm a grad student and I keep all of my research, teaching materials, etc on iCloud so this is a huge pain if true.

If you enable iCloud Drive it'll lock out pre Yosemite machines. Setting it up is part of the initial setup and warns you about that, you can just decline.

(If you read/heard about something else then I don't know :iiam:)

If that's the first one with retina display (and old port) then it's fine. There really isn't that much change in the OS so everything still works. Big apps are still horrible poo poo to use.

Does it work worth of gently caress on an iPhone 4s? I'm giving my old phone to the wife and I don't want get phone to be as slow as iOS7 on her old 4.

That's cool. iOS 7.0 was a bit of a hot mess on it but 7.1 helped a lot. I'm glad they're still supporting it but was a bit paranoid of a iPhone-4-on-iOS-7 situation.

Feels a bit sluggish/stuttery to me, but not unusable. Worth it for the Continuity functionality and for Hey Siri.

iOS 8 seems blazing fast on my 5S for the record, it seems pretty optimized.

Will it be offered OTA for the above mentioned 3rd gen iPads?

THis might be a VERY stupid question. I just installed iOS 8 on my iPad mini and said yes to upgrading to iCloud Drive. Does that cost anything?

The only thing it costs you is compatibility with pre-Yosemite (and probably 10.9.5) OS X machines. Pricewise, there is no cost unless you choose to buy extra disk space.

I'm with you on I hope they release an update to speed up the iPad 2 as it's very choppy. I know it's quite old now but it has the same components as the iPad mini

Making/Receiving calls on my iPad is not working. I get a "Call using iPhone failed" message when making a call, and absolutely nothing appears when receiving a call. Both were just updated to iOS 8 and are on the same network.

It's a little jittery when going into multitasking but otherwise just the fact that Safari minimizes when scrolling (almost like the iPhone but not quite!) and the predictive typing are worth it.

Haven't played with the other features yet.

iBooks and podcasts go straight into the "never use" folder.

It's no iOS 7 on the iPhone4, that's for sure.

Trip report for iOS 8 on my 3rd gen iPad: so far so good, performance still isn't great but aside from a couple instances isn't noticeably worse than 7.1, and Safari in particular feels smoother than previously. Bummer that Handoff isn't supported, but a 2.5 year old device couldn't be expected to get every single new feature. No reason not to update as far as I can tell.

Is there any way to turn off Safari minimizing the tab bar? Settings didn't have anything that changed it and Googling is drawing a blank. It's basically doubling the number of physical inputs I have to make in my day-to-day browsing experience so it would be really nice to disable.

I'm looking for the same. How they didn't think to make this optional is bizarre.

Swype on the other hand does work on the iPad. It's kinda weird to use on such a big screen but I guess this is how Zorro feels all the time.

Safari offers more gestures now. If you're trying to get to the tab switch button constantly like I did when I first installed iOS 8, pinch the page.
