As a native New Yorker, I can confirm this as true. Times Square is where tourists go and eat at overpriced, lovely restaurants while getting harassed by assholes dressed up like Spider Man and Elmo that want your money. I will never understand the allure that place has. The whole place is crowded every weekend. Endless dumbass tourists.

As a non-New Yorker, I went once just to say I'd been there. Aside from the Israelite School of UPK reminding everyone that white men are born criminals and the heavenly smell of the M&M store, I found nothing worth ever revisiting. I got more out of five minutes in the village than an hour in Times Square.

I went to New York for a week's vacation and did the same on my first day, to get it out of the way. Then got dragged onto guided bus tours and had to walk to places where through Times Square was the most convenient route, and long story short, I went to Times Square five separate times within 36 hours and never want to again.

Even the tour guide said "it was better when there were drugs and porn."

They can't, since the ACA isn't an insurance policy but more of a centralization of pre-existing insurance polices with some rather light regulations.

It's illegality depends on the state and what exact for of insured healthcare they are providing. If you're the form of profession that takes certain insurances (usually through an applied panel system) you can technically accept or deny people on basis of their insurance. Therapists and Psychologists do it frequently because certain insurances pay like poo poo so they will only accept them if they desperately need clients. It has a lot to do with the lobby of whatever profession you have and how well they advocate you to different companies.

I can tell you're not American just by the fact that you believe we must have laws that would protect people against this sort of poo poo. If you assume something can't be legal in the United States because it is blatantly abusive or nonsensical, you will be wrong a depressing percentage of the time.

Anyway, the real reason the sign is bullshit is that there is no such thing as "Affordable Care Act insurance." There are just some new regulations that govern insurance providers.

That and their idea of a woman being "smart mouthed/too mouthy" is usually something like "verbalizes a thought or opinion that isn't mine" or "still has some little bit of self-esteem left."

The only thing I can think of is it's remotely possible they were dumb and meant something like Medicaid, which was expanded by ACA in a lot of states and which is also not accepted by some doctors. But most likely it's just some "Obamacare!" :bahgawd: idiot making a stand with their home printer.

I haven't had insurance for a few years now and it never ceases to amaze me how much some people hate the idea of someone getting medical care they need without going into bankruptcy. I've even gotten lectures from doctors in a clinic that specialized in patients without insurance. :psyduck:

Exactly. Everyone covered under the ACA has an insurance card from an independent insurance company (except maybe the Medicaid expansion). The old plans that weren't under the ACA have mainly been fazed out.

Often times, when people lost their doctors it was because their insurance provider consolidated it's network for cost reasons. Not because those doctors decided they didn't want to cover ACA patients. This was someone trying to make a point or scare people into thinking their own doctors were dropping coverage.

I think doctors can refuse plans on the exchanges though? They can choose not to accept a certain plan (aka exchange), but they've always been welcome to do that. I guess it is an OMG CRISIS because all of a sudden your doctor is outside your network when you were promised that it wouldn't happen. But doctors move in and out networks all the time, especially when they are associated with a hospital system that has to negotiate with insurers.

That is a distinct possibility, though I think if I saw a sign like that at a doctor's office (and I had a choice about the matter) I would just turn around and not come back regardless of what sort of insurance I happened to be using myself.
