Blue Ruin was a pretty decent movie. Not amazing and not terrible. Just right in the middle. Good for one viewing but I can't see myself ever wanting to revisit it.

I adored Blue Ruin. That lead actor really nailed it.

The Spoils of Babylon was fantastic but now I'm just left wishing that Darkplace was on Netflix.

You can find all Darkplace episodes on Youtube, but the quality isn't great.

Blue Ruin kicks loving rear end. It's sort of like Drive's dumber, more brazenly Mann-influenced little brother.

Blue Ruin bored me. It looked pretty at times, and had a handful of interesting ideas, but it just seemed like 90 minutes of nothing happening.

John Cusack plays a hitman suffering from an existential crisis who goes to his high school reunion.

Sweet, I know what I'm watching tonight. I love that movie. I remember a few years ago, I read somewhere about a pseudosequel called War, Inc. It's not very good.

Like where she's swapping recipes with someone on the phone and then takes call waiting to rip the ammo supplier a new rear end in a top hat, then back to recipes! At least I think I'm remembering that right.

At least I think I'm remembering that right. It's also one of Dan Aykroyd's best performances post-1990, though admittedly that's not saying much. Also a great turn in by Jeremy Piven as basically a prototype of his Ari Gold character. And of course, a fantastic soundtrack and original music by Joe Strummer.

I feel like season 8 of Trailer Park Boys was dangerously close to turning into a farce, but by gawd they somehow managed to keep it together into another glorious celebration of stupidity. Hopefully they can do another season or two before the show turns into a total caricature of itself.

# ? Sep 17, 2014 01:02 |
Did you watch the same season I did? If so, did you watch season 7? Season 8 is wacky, but not nearly to the same extent as 7, and the wackiest bits (Sebastian Bach) are all direct callbacks to that season. Season 8 actually felt like a major return to form and I'd go as far as to say it's the best the show has ever been.

I personally felt that it was one of the most solid seasons, every episode felt really good and was packed full of laughs. My only major gripes were the lack of Ray and the fact that they go a bit overboard with the Ricky-isms this time instead of letting them happen more naturally, but overall I thought it was really tight compared to some of the meandering the previous seasons do in the middle episodes. I also watched Grosse Point Blank and Heathers last night and enjoyed the hell out of both of them, I had passed both of them over for so long thinking they were cheesy 80's rom-coms and did not realize how hilariously dark they were. Grosse Point Blank had a killer soundtrack as mentioned as well, so many great songs and they tie into the movie really well. Scorps fucked around with this message at 02:05 on Sep 17, 2014 |

Yeah, they do ladle on the Ricky-isms in season 8, but I too felt that it was really solid. I love Sam and Cyrus as a duo, and Donnie cracks me up. It was a definite return to form after a dip into wackiness in season 7.

I felt like they also tried to really draw attention to how dumb Ricky is instead of just letting him be Ricky. But apart from that, Season 8 was great.

If you mean literally 20 minutes you didn't even get to the genre-bending fuckery. It's fair to dislike it, but if you think the first 5/10/15/20 minutes can be used to judge the entire film, you are wildly mistaken.

For me they key to Detention was catching on that it doesn't give you time to laugh so you shouldn't bother, and keeping the faith that nothing is just throwaway detail, it all comes back eventually.
