Some of the levels changed to fit in more transitions for smaller maps (more, longer loading times; still not as bad as IW!), locational damage was removed (so you can't blow off your legs), and I think they may have made installing/changing augs different somehow. Otherwise it's pretty similar, but they may have updated some of the music/graphics, I think? I don't remember if you can zoom in with a sniper rifle, but I beat that version with a sniper rifle without zoom, so whatever.

Its been a while, but I am pretty sure if you hit MiB in that sweet spot at the base of their skull they go down in two hits. Regular enemies will go down in one. I can't remember if MiB have a sweet spot at the top of their rear end like regular enemies, mainly because I simply can't resist that target they have painted on the back of their neck. You learn a lot when trying to do Pauls apartment attack with zero casualties, Batman style.

I always play Batman style. Liberal use of the prod, baton, gas grenades and crossbow. Take augs that best mimic the abilities of the Batman Beyond suit. No casualties, ever. Remember when you arrive in Hell's Kitchen for the first time and there's a group of NSF fighting some dudes? You have to make sure every one of those guys is knocked out. The hostage situation in the Ton is particularly difficult since they kill the hostages the instant they see you. The subway hostage situation is also a lot of fun, the hard part is preventing themselves from blowing up. Gas grenades come in handy there, you got some up top didn't you? Anna Navarre is determined to turn Castle Clinton into a bloodbath. Not in my city. Afterwards, when the ground is covered in only unconscious bodies, Anna will praise the fact that every terrorist is flat on his back. When attacking the generator you have to make sure nearly everyone is unconscious and removed from the building so that the explosion doesn't kill them, or Gunther's subsequent attack.

I am always torn on the Anna/Lebedev decision. Obviously, Batman would not stand idly by while a man was executed, even in armed combat. Usually I just kill her, with a heavy heart... but realistically I should haved knocked out Lebedev, grabbed him, and made a run for it.

No casualties, no compromises.

All these years, I've been assuming that the MIBs exploding when killed is part of a system meant to prevent their bodies from being recovered for reverse engineering, and consequently that prodding them would cause them to explode in my face.

Now I find out that they just fall over unconscious and you can loot them?!

No you're right, its just they only explode upon death. You use the prod for the specific reason of being able to loot them.

The MJ12 commandos have a prod/baton sweet spot at their lower back/rear end, for some reason. Only takes one prod hit and maybe even one baton hit if you get it exactly right, but I'm not sure about that last one. MiBs can be dropped with two prod charges but I forgot where to hit them, although I think it was the same as the commandos.

I once ate all the Zyme in that Paris kitchen, turned on my level 4 leg augments and bounced around for a bit. When the Zyme wore off I was outside the level with no way back in.

I thought the recent LP conclusively established that the "sweet spot" is the entire back area, and all the talk about spots at the back of the neck / belt area were just misinformation?

The prod will only knock out a Commando in one back hit if you are at maxed Low-Tech level. It makes sense; a maxed out prod does 30 damage per hit. With the sneak back attack multiplier, it does 300. The commando has 250 HP.

However, if you go for a back attack at any other level, you won't do 250 or greater damage in a single hit. This will merely piss off the Commando and make him open fire on you. If you're at Advanced, an extra jolt from the prod will be able to knock him out before he swivels around and begins attacking because he'll be hit by 225 from the sneak attack and 45 damage from the body shot (hitting any body part but the head will do double damage). Don't bother at lower Low-Tech levels because you'll be completely unable to quickly do enough damage before he kills you.

The belt thing might be someone attributing the sneak back attack damage and quick follow-up damage from hitting the belt area, when in reality any part of the back counts for the initial sneak attack.

Through my vigorous 10 minute testing, I have determined that if you are crouched and attempting to aim for any portion of a soldier's back with the prod, you will knock them out instantly. I think this is because when you are crouched you can't hit anything except the soldier's rear end. However, if you are standing, you still have to aim for their neck or their rear end. Otherwise they just get electrocuted.

I am also having to fight the urge to replay Deus Ex. You won't have me, game! I have too many other games to play! But you're so fun...

According to the damage formulas, the prod and baton do half damage if you hit someone in the front or back of their head (but not the sides), but damage to all other body parts is identical. So as long as you're behind them and don't hit their head you should always be doing the maximum amount of damage.

Seems pretty dumb. I wonder if it was unintentional.

Are there any good mods for IW that improve the game's shittiness at all? I've seen texture mods, but do UI mods and ammo/weapon mods exist (like one which removes universal ammo, for instance)? I haven't found any so far, sadly.

Actually, what the game really needs is a JC Denton mod.

There is a tool that lets you mod the game called DXTool, but all it can do is adjust the HUD size and what elements appear to your liking. With some .ini editing, you can change how much damage enemies do, how much you do to enemies, and how much ammo you can get per pickup. GameFAQs has the lowdown on changing how the game plays.

IW is OK. The rear end in a top hat physics do a lot to redeem it, but the tiny-rear end maps and the terrible performance are still problems. But it's fun to murder everyone in a map and arrange the bodies to tell a very strange and disturbing story!

Really, with how dead-eyed everyone (especially Alex "Totally Not Denton" D) are it's hard not to play this game as an elaborate murder simulator. And in the end just go with the russian transhumanist black market cyborgs. Kill 'em all :black101:

Oh and you can chuck chairs at people and hang out with aliens. And summon infinite multitools out of the aether (if you feel so inclined, check my earlier posts in this thread to see a trip report and some dumb gifs)

Nothing to the extent of, say, Shifter. Mod tools for DX2 were never released, and nobody ever hacked the Thief 3 tools into compliance.

Given how Thief 3 Gold, which removes a lot of the loading zones between areas and fixes patrol routes between guards recently came out, I'm surprised nobody thought to do anything similar to Invisible War.

But I guess that's because despite its faults, Thief 3 is still a good game while removing the loading zones between areas in Invisible War fixes only one of the many faults with the game.

I wonder if your problems with the plot come from the presentation, which was just awful, like the 20 minute conversation with Paul Denton in a box, where all he basically says is "Don't take me out of the box."

(gonna spoiler some of this because I think they're things that are fun to discover) I personally think the storyline had some sparks of good stuff in it. I love that the Order/WTO ended up being the same entity, with the illuminati still being able to take hold after the Collapse,[spoiler] which had a really cool parallel with the [spoiler]Pequods/Queequegs coffee shops plot line. Also the way the NG Resonance hologram plays out. There really were a few neat things to find out there if you took your time.

Only problem was, the time required to find the cool poo poo was exacerbated by the horrid loading times. I still have not been able to beat that game since my first full playthrough, back when I had much more patience. I tried again last year, and even running the game on a solid state drive I still found myself prioritizing my actions so I could minimize loading screens.

I don't hate the game at all, but M.Ciaster is right - kill everyone and side with the Omar, it's the coolest ending.

In Invisible War, there are a lot of opportunities to pick dialogue options, Mass Effect style. Even though the majority of the choices don't matter, I still like it when games do this. Even if I only ever join one side, I still appreciate games that let you pick the other side. The weapons having no heft doesn't matter, because you should only ever be using the punch baton with the crazy EMP punching power.
