Stand down, men! It's only smooching!

What was that seinen manga with the demon investigators who in the first episode went to go save a mermaid who the evil conglomerate was going to butcher for her voice to make, like, bottled voice juice or something?

that sentence is #manga.txt if i ever saw it :v:

Are there any Seinen manga around that are similar to Bonnouji? I want to read something relaxed that isn't about high school students, and I can't find a "recommend me manga" thread so I figure since it was listed as a Seinen, this thread's probably the best place to ask.

I've been reading the LN for Mushoku Tensei lately, and once you get past the prologue and first chapter, it's actually pretty good.
It's about a NEET in his 30s that gets chased out of home, saves some schoolkids from getting hit by a truck and dies, but gets reincarnated in a fantasy world (bonus points for actually starting out as a baby instead of as a teen), where he decides to actually make use of this second chance at life.

As I said, the first part of the novel makes the MC seem really creepy and gross, but he becomes a lot more likeable (read: way less creepy and gross) very quickly.

That's like a Veritas-level ending. I would have assumed it was canceled but why would it be canceled in the middle of getting an anime?

Hopefully we're just going to get Tokyo Ghoul: New Waves.

It's probably for the best anyway...with Veritas it was a loss but Tokyo Ghoul's been pretty lame for a while.
I'm behind on pretty much all the good series but impulsively started reading Arion. It's a little too dumb/oldschool/simple for my tastes, but it has its moments.
I'm surprised by the rate and ease we seem to be seeing the Greek gods die at Arion's hands, unless those turn out to be illusions or they can resurrect themselves somehow. I also don't really like the handling of Athena. She just doesn't seem very Athena except in appearance, I get the personalities and depictions of these gods are kind of twisted, I like crazy old coot Zeus, but the character Athena doesn't really seem to have much Athena in her other than being a warrior woman. I hope Ares comes back.
Also every moment with Apollo is usually gold. His depiction as a snooty rapey rear end in a top hat who curses like a 13 year old on the internet is pretty much spot on.

I thought Tokyo Ghoul was doing well. Really weird to see it end like this. Enough hooks to continue too, just about nothing's resolved.

Tokyo Ghoul went to poo poo like 60 some chapters in when it just turned into torture porn with the main character. The art and plot became incomprehensible the further along it went.

There was also a point where someone, I honestly forget who, says "No Ghoul will get past V14." He wasn't kidding.

That being said I only read the entire thing last week and it definitely went downhill after aogiri tree got introduced. I'm not sure where I originally thought it was going to go, but I definitely wanted something else.

I would have been fine with an ending where he died, but for it to be the invincible mary sue investigator who's never lost, ever, just robs it of any appeal. Not to mention it being deliberately vague and not resolving anything just for the sake of being mysterious or "deep". It felt like they wanted to go for an "artsy" or "realistic" ending where not everything is wrapped up but went too far.

I really do hate these non-endings, but at the same time if it had kept escalating power levels for another hundred chapters I'd probably have dropped it anyway.

It seems that with all of Satoru's changes, Misato is going to be the next target instead, with the Teacher being the one framed for it. Of course, it could still turn out that the teacher is the actual Murderer, but it seems more likely that the actual murderer is going to use the Teacher's habits (lollipops in his car and closeness to the kids) to set him up.

I don't know, as much as I'd like it to stay a mystery it seems like it's supposed to be pretty clear at this point that it's the teacher. It doesn't really make any sense for him to be as insistent about keeping the lollypops a secret and freak out at a child finding out about them.

I think it's about 50/50. It just seems like too its too obvious and instead a red herring.

The story sort of has a "Chekhov's gun" (I think that's the right trope/thing) problem where we can be pretty sure the murderer is someone we've been introduced to. With this in mind, there simply aren't many options.

Maybe it's Kenya, haha.

Is The Heroic Legend of Arslan any good?

I mean the books were by the LoGH guy and the manga is by Arakawa so it should be great, but I never hear anyone talk about it so I kinda figure it might be a case where two good things just don't mix together well?

I mean, I'm enjoying it a lot, but I don't talk about it much either. I think it's just because it's monthly and just getting started, so even now we're still only getting a taste of what's to come...so there's not a lot to discuss or rave about quite yet. Also I think I might have actually seen it discussed in the historical manga thread (though barely that much there, it's mostly Historie/Vinland Saga/Otoyomegatari), so that also might be why.
But yeah, like you said, cool setting, established skilled manga-ka, I'm following it and reading it monthly for a reason. I expect good things.

It's good but the story has barely begun and the slow release times are keeping it that way. Probably would be something awesome to marathon through a year from now or something.
