It's a little better with shadows off, that seems to be the main culprit. SSAO may have helped too. I'll keep an eye on it.

Not very deep in, but this is cool as hell. I missed old-school RPGs like this, and especially something with the Wasteland (or old Fallout) vibe.

Yeah the game really tried to go for the old school feel instead of making things a bit more friendly for stuff such as pointing you in the right direction

There's this, and the fact that the game is clearly designed with an expectation that you can and will miss a lot of stuff. You don't even have to go to Darwin, for example. And if you do get through that gate, one of your options is to tell no one about what you found.

I just got a radio telling me about Robots, near a radio tower, vargas asked me to check it out. But nothing on my map or quest log was updated with a location of this mysterious tower.

It's referring to the tower you went to at the very beginning of the game, which should already be on your map.

Can you play this game as a bad guy outside of just killing everyone? Like can you quit the Rangers and join other groups or work for other groups or go rouge?

Also, I'm thinking about rerolling a group with decent charisma. How much Charisma needs to be assigned so I can recruit NPCs?

Sturdy mag and a luck that's higher that 2 as well as a decent weapons skill make jamming non-existent. Seriously guys pump your weapons skills if you're having trouble.

I'm running with a luck of 1 on all my starter characters and only in one encounter have I had an absurd number of jams. It was a random encounter and raining. It'd be kind of cool if the rain was contributing to weapon failures, but I dunno? One of my snipers jammed 3 loving times in a row.

Otherwise, jams are fairly rare considering that you have a 3-6% chance per weapon, with every single person except the melee guy firing a weapon 1-2 times per turn during 3-4 turn long encounters.

In a way, since you get XP per monster that EVERYONE gets equally, but you also get the monster kill XP, so if you have less people killing things, those people will get more XP.

Normall a bug is 20XP, and EVERYONE gets 20XP at the end of a fight. The person who kills the bug also gets a 5XP kill shot bonus type thing.

So adding a support type character that doesn't often kill poo poo won't hurt.. gotcha

Haha, made a daring rescue of some pigs. Went around the back way, smashed down the fence and nearly made my getaway when they spotted the pigs were running away and decided to fight.

Basically the entire fight was my rangers standing between them and the pigs, making sure they got away safely. A short while later, there was an explosion, and a pig got blown up on a minefield. Thought I cleared them all out :smith:

Did you do rail nomad first? I think the "proper progression" is to do Ag Center/Highpool --> Rail Nomads ---> Prison

If he mentioned robots...

South east of highpool there is a 'train station' you can find on the map, it's kind of small but look along the row of tox clouds and head east and you should see it. Be warned, poo poo might look cute at first but you're going to get hosed if you aren't packing heavy weapons or energy weapons

I presume that's it, there may actually be something at the original radio tower. I never checked...

Use Surgeon on the bedridden patients in the northernmost house. And clear out the wreckers camp to the south on the world map.

i dont know of any time limit except obvious ones, like leaving Highpool after triggering the quest and wandering around on the world map.
That house is gonna burn down eventually and the water plant explodes etc.

There are many many instances where if you dick around or take too long you can't do the quest anymore. Okay, not quite everything but enough that the game probably will require multiple playthroughs if you don't know where everything is.

You won't succeed unless you have Hard rear end/Kiss rear end/Smart rear end all at 5+, so prepare for a bloodbath.

The whole RPG character design system is pretty bizarre for having worthless often redundant skills such as Kick rear end/Kiss rear end.

Even the whole stat concept seems sort of pointless given how you can skillpoint your way to many things like better ranged weapon performance.

I'm Pacman Jones!
Somebody convince me that having a melee guy over someone with a gun will be worth it later in the game, because so far in a couple of starts through both Ag Center and Highpool I'm just not feeling him. I'm not even running into the damage/accuracy issues people seem to have with melee characters, I'm just not finding my melee guy useful at all. I spend every first turn just hiding behind something and waiting for enemies to come in range since running to them just means my melee guy gets focus fired. And by the time the enemies get close my other guys have mowed all/most of them down, so the melee guy gets cleanup duty at best. Then if he does get close and doesn't kill an enemy I have to either worry about friendly fire from my other guys, or waste AP just to position dudes a bit out of the way.

I dunno, just seems like I would rather have someone with an SMG or an energy weapon or even shotgun in almost every situation as I would use melee.

My melee guy owns so far and has like twice the kills of anyone else. But play the way you want, why the hell would anyone want to convince you to have a melee guy if you don't want to play with one?
