Holy poo poo this new front storepage is horrific - I thought they were going to leave things as they were but give people the option to add in these new features if they wished. What the hell is Explore Your Queue and Curators and how do I get rid of them?

Wow this new store is such a lovely clusterfuck. Hopefully they never update the iphone app so I can just buy from there or something. Why should I go out of my way to see a complete new release list? Why do I have to scroll past Youtube retards before getting to the games? Why does telling Steam you dont want a game not actually DO ANYTHING?

Why is it telling me to buy Street Fighter 4 because I play a lot of Ultra Street Fighter 4? Think, Gaben!

Yeah lemmie whip my wallet out asap

Reach for the moon!
The good news is that I can stick to my good old strategy after all: Only use the search function in the store to find the game you want to buy, then close the store without browsing anything else and ignore the memory leak that happens when you start looking at recommendations.

edit: Oh, the memory leak only happens if you scroll far enough down into your recommendations because the steam web helper remembers your place on the browser, meaning even if you close the store interface it will still remember your place there and consume retarded amounts of memory until you switch to a different tab.

The update seemed to start out so well, too. A smaller Big Picture button and the store tells you right off the bat if you own something. Then the poo poo hits the fan.

Why cant this be disabled? I cant imagine making it more difficult to get to the games would be helping sales. In fact, the harder MS made it to find XBLA games, the worse the sales got!

God, including this stuff would be fine if it was just optional. Every second game on the featured items list is a useless recommendation and I just want to turn them all off or shunt them off to a completely separate menu item somewhere that I can look at when I choose to.

Why is Starforge being tagged as a "popular new release"?

The top 6 reviews more or less tear it apart as unfinished complete poo poo yet the review of the game is "mixed"?

They claim there's a singleplayer campaign which is 12 hours long. You can also play various modes against bots.

It's all about making money. It's a high profile game which tons of people will buy. If War Z wasn't outright technically unplayable at launch they'd have been pushing it on the front page for months.

I don't hate the new design, but im not a fan of the light blue, and automatic generated recommendations is something that i don't think will work properly ever, resulting in stuff like getting recommended cs 1.6 due to having recently bought cs:go, etc.

if it's gonna work it'll need an insane amount of tweaking and edge case detections

This curator thing seems only to reward youtubers. I thought they'll write a script to group/recommend games with similar gameplay qualities better but this is just "hey, look at the trash we reviewed at our channel!". It's completely useless, just like tags. Meanwhile, they just show only the most popular of the new releases pretending Strategy First are not shoveling poo poo directly onto Steam day by day. In two years this could look like XBLA or Play Store where you have to scroll through nameless clones to find one playable game.

Actually, on this note, I recall there being some talk like...uh...half a year ago, in the old thread...regarding new Geforce recommendations. Is the GTX 760 still the way to go? Or was it the 780? The more RAM the better (within reason/cost)?

It's really funny because at this point Valve doesn't give a gently caress about anything if it doesn't concern money. They have the worst customer support, worst refund program, they left choosing the games that get on Steam to people (great idea btw, invite more zero budget anime porn to the platform) or they just let anyone get in if they have a publisher even if their game is borderline unplayable. Now they don't want to even bother with curating the games anymore, better subscribe to ~~goku420~~ read his one line reviews.

I know it's printing them money but it sometimes shocks me just how bad Steam is if you look at how it works.

My issue isn't with any of the new features, since obviously other people are going to like things I am indifferent about or dislike, but just that there doesn't seem to be any option to opt-out or hide them away if you DON'T want them. I'm never going to use curators or queue (I've read up on it and I still have no idea what the gently caress it actually is) but there they are taking up space and cluttering up the store page.

The ability to customize your page to show the features you want and not show the ones you don't would pretty much remove all my issues. When they first started talking about curators I just naturally assumed that it would be an opt-in thing you COULD do but if you preferred (or took no action) that you'd just get the "standard" Steam store page we'd always had in the past. I'm not sure who this messy all-in-one approach benefits.

I dunno I still remember the endless bitching that resulted from La-Mulana or similar games not getting into steam yet again due to it being too closed/steam curators being overloaded as gently caress.
Not a fan of the lovely indie deluge but hey, good stuff is making its way in instead of not at all.
