I'm not worried about under hood just yet, but that's probably next. If you're just separating and labeling strands, braided (or split) nylon sleeving + heatshrink the ends keeps things really tidy. If you're doing front of firewall stuff eventually, fiberglass sleeving is nice, but gets expensive really fast. Most shops will have a scrap bin with odds and ends from cutting that'll save you so many dollarbux in the long run.

I'm a fan of the 'split loom and zip tie' myself just because it's easy and looks ok. Add heat a/o abrasion resistant sleeving as needed.

Did my first track day in my 318iS in 3+ years, constructive criticism appreciated: 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ7tBwGbhF4 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSB13nazIJI 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhffTCM1ij8 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efzz0bLOK5U sorry for the audio quality, i need to see if I can improve the gopro case. I was getting a TON of brake shudder (race pads on street rotors) on the first session so I backed off a bit to minimize it.

I'll look through it later and offer actual useful info if I see anything. Brake shudder has always been pad deposits for me. A few times overly hard braking usually cleans them up pretty quick.

Having the sleeving with adhesive lined shrink tube makes nice wiring work perfect, but adding/removing would require cutting the reapplying the shrink tube.

Well I sold the stock seats a long time ago and haven't bothered to install the passenger race seat yet, but the back seat is pretty light so I didn't bother. The entire car will be stripped once I finally get a rollbar and harnesses installed.

If you're not swapping rotors, put the pads on a little before the event and drive on them to get rid of the street pad transfer layer. And then run them on the way home to scrub off the track pad transfer layer. It works really well for me and saves on rotor changes which add a lot of extra time on my e36.

I think I'll go for the split loom/zip tie method for now. Since this isn't an actual race car, that sounds a lot easier than heat shrinking wires.

Any tips for "smoothing" a GoPro in the car? Last time I went to the track the footage was SO jittery. Gunna do some paced laps tomorrow, I think, and I'd like to get some better footage this time. I have the sticky mounts, a suction cup, and a headband for what it's worth.

Attaching it the suction mount to a hard surface and making sure the adjustment screws are holding it rigidly always did the trick for me. How did you have it mounted before? Parid, you still looking for a driver?

Last time I went, I only had the headstrap so what I actually did was put it around the headrest on my passenger seat and then stuff it with layers and layers of shirts so that that it would generally stay in place. Will be trying the suction cup tomorrow though

This stuff is a pretty nice step up from plastic split loom: http://www.isgroup-international.com/pdfs/Protective_Sleeving_PDFs/protective_sleeving_roundit_2000_V0.pdf The datasheet doesn't explain it well but it's a split fabric sleeve that wraps over itself. We source it at work from IS Motorsport.

A nice solid camera mount is key. I use the suction mount upside down on the sunroof and put it in front of the passenger seat so the rear view mirror isn't in the way. The gopro lens is wide enough that you can still see the shifter and steering wheel. In car out the windshield with the wheel in the shot is the best viewpoint IMO. For wiring, the plastic split loom wrapped in electrical tape works and looks fairly well but isn't pro motorsports level stuff. Cheap though.

Regardless of which mount you use, you need a solid panel to mount it on, something with vibration dampening would be nice. Be weary surfaces that aren't meant to handle weight too, even at ~1.5lbs, I've had a gopro rip off a trim piece. I returned the gopro suction cup mount after one day of trying to use it for aviation, it just couldn't help with camera vibration. I'm a big fan of ram mounts and their ball mounts, they're maybe two dollarbux more than the gopro mounts, but far more stable/rigid, and the two ball sections give you full range to line up your frame. tl;dr you need a pair of balls in your car

drgitlin or anyone else running in the October Road America chump race? I think we're still planning to run. I have an install starting the Monday after, Dad has one starting the Tuesday after (with a full day of travel) and one of our drivers broke his leg.

No, I've got too much going on here and the rest of the team are doing Hallett instead - the Golf isn't competitive under ChumpCar's new rules so we may never do another one.

DTD is having a sale right now through ebay for tires and i'm looking at a new set for the spring for my e30 in 205/50/15 Nitto NT01 vs Nitto NT05 vs Kumho XS vs Azenis 615k Leaning away from NT01 due to price and don't really need competition tires.

Out of those choices, the NT01 is the least worst.

If you're just looking to do parade laps, then do whatever. If you want a fast street tire, buy Rivals or Z2s. If you want an entry level slick, NT01s or Maxxis RC-1s.

Another 1.5 seconds down. Hopefully I can get under 2 minutes in November when it isn't 105 degrees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6pKrd4VSOg I should do in car camera to see how much I bounce around through that 7-8 chicane, its past scary and into funny now that I can hit it at 90+ mph.
