Been slowly learning how to take better long exposure shots. Still blurry but I'm happier with the outcome than with previous attempts.

So, there was a light shining on the trees that looked white to my eyes, but showed up neon green on camera, then there was also a bit of smoke and perpetual twilight that turned the sky purple. Interesting.

Does not give a damn

Not as good a storm as the US midwest, but the UK has had some storms the last few days:

I finally got this after standing in my garage doorway for 90 minutes rather than standing in the middle of my garden in the rain (also it took me 15 minutes to find the reason why 30 second exposures were still too dark was, I still had the lens cap on).

For some reason thunderstorms only come through my town at 5:30 pm so I usually set Aperture priority at lowest ISO and F22 and hope the shutter will be slow enough to catch something. I don't know if these really count as long exposure but they sure required a lot of patience. And by patience I mean tantrums as the intervalometer stopped just as a really great lightning bolt struck in the field of view.

I have a peanut allergy.
I had my first try at thunderstorms the other night, and then also finally got around to my fireworks stuff. It's the first time I've used the bulb shutter, and I'm getting used to what a proper exposure is for different scenarios. Long exposure stuff is quickly becoming my favorite new thing to play with.

I caught lightning for the first time the other day too.

Shortly after that (in the same place), there was a fireworks show. For this shot, I pulled it out of focus at the end (resulting in the 'baubles' around the outer edge, and the shaky lines).

I did manage to capture a lightning bolt and some fireworks in the same frame, but a raindrop on the lens and poor conditions for fireworks means it's not as clear as I would've liked.

If I get ten spare bucks, it's going for a 30-pack of Schlitz.
Motorcycles at the top of the art museum steps in Philly. There were no white lights on this bike, but I had my shutter open for 15s, so all of the red, blue, yellow and green lights created that pure white look. The pulsing effect of the lights created the star filter look.

I got to go out in the dark-ish night. There was a forest fire or something on the horizon. Plus a telescope, totally unrelated.

This is the view just outside of my door. Sadly, my last purchase of camera gear didn't include a tripod. I'll have to wait a few more months until I can get some interesting foregrounds.

Social media was exploding last night about a solar storm causing some aurora borealis. Drove an hour out of town aaaaaaaaaaaand pretty much nothing. Full moon probably didn't help much either

Because we can.

The display last night was due to a smaller flare, there's supposed to be a much bigger display tonight since the CME from the big X1.6 flare just hit us midday today. So if you try again you might get lucky.

I'm going to drive an hour out of town over the hills and try and get some sky shots tonight. Thats one good thing about australia being mostly uninhabited, there still plenty of black skies around.

This is southern Manhattan. Shot with a 6D and a 16-35 f4 IS. 22mm, ISO 800, 1/8 sec exposure handheld on the Staten Island Ferry. That IS is pretty darn good.
